Outdoor Fitness

Thanks to the vision of Governor Tad Abello, the Mahogany park has now, something for all ages.   More and more people are enjoying outdoor fitness activities with marathons, triathlons taking place on a weekly basis all over the country.

The park now has a nicely laid out set of fitness equipment  for park goers and village runners to incorporate in their fitness programs. The layout incorporates a circuit around the perimeter of the park, a separate warm-up/cardio area and a stretching area.

The race kit

dsc_8305.JPG

This time, I wanted to cover the event differently, instead of waiting in the finish line, I wanted to be on the skyway and take photos of the 21k and 42k runners. I woke up at 2:30 am to get to the Fort to look for Ton to find out how to get to the skyway

dsc_8313.JPGdsc_8317.JPGdsc_8319.JPG

Ton was not in sight so by 3:30am I just decided to go to the skyway myself and just try my luck. Ton told me that I needed to be in the skyway by 4am

dsc_8315.JPG

I got to the skyway

dsc_8330.JPG

and this guy, Paul, approached me when my car dropped me at the toll booth.  My car could not enter so it was just me

dsc_8340.jpg

He was kind enough and got approval to let me join them and stay with them…

Sometimes we take for granted the people who do all the preparation and hard work in planning for the race..Thanks to the Condura team for all your work!

dsc_8334.JPGdsc_8339.JPGcondura14.jpg

so from around 4 am to 5am we were just waiting for the runners to come

dsc_8326.JPGdsc_8345.JPG

We got so excited when we saw some runners approaching already! This was our first sighting

 dsc_8346.JPG

It had been an hour since the start for the 42k runners

The first runners to pass and leading the pack

Paul told me that this guy is the oldest runner in the race- If I remember correctly he said 83 years old!!! WOW!!!! and he was one of the first runners in the lead and he was doing the 42k!!!!!!

Starting to get some light and more runners on the skyway….

dsc_8457.JPG

Jim, for some reason, I can never get a shot of you- you run too fast!! :-)

 dsc_8467.jpg

More light…..

dsc_8480.JPG

And finally I see Ton on a motorcycle! He had come from the end of the track and on his way back already

dsc_8504.JPGdsc_8501.JPGdsc_8493.JPGdsc_8508.jpgdsc_8511.jpgdsc_8519.jpg

Of course I could not miss Tessa coming! And she has many poses.  She is the only one that stopped and posed for me many times so she has plenty photos :-)

By around 6:30 am, I had to leave the skyway to catch my husband and son who should be in the finish line

Dr. Mig

It was so nice to have visited my friend, Mig.  ( Miguel’s Healing Powers January 27, 2008 ) I have not been to this clinic in two years…because I am lucky I did not have to..til lately my right arm has been hurting from my photo taking with my heavy camera.  It has been three months and i have been procrastinating and hoping it will just go away… then when I finally decided to see a doctor… I had to wait for Mig to come back from Cebu where he was busy also treating many patients

I love his clinic because it is very relaxing and not intimidating….Nothing has changed………

p1160139.JPGp1160128.JPG

……except that he has new frog friends in his office :-)

p1160133.JPGp1160132.jpgp1160134.JPG

Mig is still the same…but this time he is not single and is in love:-)  p1160135.JPG

“Okay Rica, RELAX!” :-)  Though Mig is my friend, of course I was still nervous because I was never his patient and I have never had anything really done to myself without anesthesia or in a hospital.  So I told him to be gentle :-)  and of course he was!

p1160140.jpgp1160136.JPG

Mig told me to come back again if my arm still hurts…so far after a week…I don’t have to!  It’s amazing!! Thanks Mig!

Rhea

I was so happy to see my batchmate, Rhea Lopa-Ramos!  When we were in highschool, she was always a person to admire - very smart, very kind, very nice, very simple…which is why she was given the Mother Marie Eugenie Award when we graduated.  And now she has a very successful career helping kids.   Heart2Heart is so proud of her.  More power to you Rhea!!!

dsc_6792.jpgdsc_6793.jpg

Rhea and her team run the Neurodevelopmental Center in St. Luke’s Medical Center.  And because they are so good at what they are doing, there is a one year waitlist!  So, you better start booking your appointments.  It’s a good thing I have connections and I can email or call her anytime :-)
