Jay Aguirre

Eversince James was in highschool, he would always tell me that he wanted a custom made shoe!  John Lobb in particular.

Since it was very expensive, of course he never had one made! 🙂 As he is always intrigued by anything CUSTOM MADE, he immediately called up Jay Aguirre which he saw in Rogue Magazine.  Jay custom makes shoes and shirts, pants, suit and denim.

jay-aguirre-01.jpgjay-aguirre-02.jpgjay-aguirre-03.jpg

The reason James wanted to try Jay was because what makes Jay different and unique is that he himself does everything from measuring to actually sewing and finishing the product!  He is the tailor himself!  So James and Jaime tried him out for a special occasion

I like these custom made details 🙂

My handsome boys!  When Jaime was a kid, I would always buy him oversized clothes assuming he will grow up fast.  He has outgrown that idea and gets mad at me everytime I do it! haha!! When it’s custom made, it fits just right!

PLET BOLIPATA has been quite visible in the Philippine Art Scene since her first painting exhibition at the Penguin Café Gallery in 1992. Her works can be found in both private and public collections including the Miriam College Gallery of Women’s Art (GAWA) Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo, BenCab Museum in Baguio, and the Center for the Arts in San Antonio, Zambales. She received a Freeman Fellowship as a painter and represented the Philippines at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT, in 2006.

Bolipata recently discovered the unique and aesthetically charming combination of fiberglass resin and crochet material. She introduced the fiberglass resin bathtub covered in crochet material in her Alliance Francaise’s Total Gallery joint exhibition with her artist/husband, Elmer Borlongan. in April, this year. It was well received and was included in the 58 Hot Designs List featured in Town and Country’s July issue, 2012.
For Museo Pambata’s auction, she designs a crochet wrapped fiberglass cat with a hat stuck in the cat’s mouth, a play on Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat. She pushes the design further to make it functional art by adding a lighting fixture using an energy saving LED bulb.

After breakfast we went around the house to visit Lolo’s other pets – his turtles, more birds and his doves.  He built cages and houses for them

At 9am we went to Polo Club gym for his workout with the best personal trainer, Ned 🙂  Thanks to my cousin Nina for arranging this.  Lolo was so excited for his workout – he kept asking what time his workout was and so we left earlier than schedule

Auction for Action: UNICEF Philippines and Daphne Oseña Paez bring together Filipino artists for children

In celebration of the 20th year of National Children’s Month, UNICEF Philippines presents UNICEF Auction for Action, an online auction to benefit children in the Philippines and worldwide (find out how to join the auction).

For the second time, this online auction brings together more than seventy pieces of work from admired artists in design, furniture, art and jewelry for a good cause. Curated and presented by UNICEF Special Advocate for Children Daphne Oseña Paez, the online auction is a product of UNICEF and Daphne’s collaboration to bring the world of art, furniture and design together with her advocacy on children.  “Whenever I go to the field with UNICEF, I am heartened to see that we are doing a lot to improve children’s lives all over the Philippines. But there is always more to do; that’s why I support UNICEF.”

To celebrate the 20th year of Children’s Month this October – the only annual national celebration that puts children’s rights center stage for all Filipino children – the theme for this year’s auction is the right of children to play.  “Playing is a basic right of every child, and its importance to a child’s well-being and healthy development cannot be over-emphasized.   It also lends itself well as a theme for our premiere artists to work with,” adds Daphne.

UNICEF’s Auction for Action offers art lovers and collectors from all over the Philippines, the chance to bid for high quality items at discounts starting at 40% off. Items such as the Bloom from designer Kenneth Cobonpue, Fly Up from artist Michael Cacnio and a golden strand of South Sea Pearls from Jewelmer will be offered from October 1-7 only. The highest bidders win the item on offer.

Kenneth Cobonpue’s iconic “Bloom” chair.

“Buy a beautiful item, and help children at the same time, what could be better? Many people don’t realize that UNICEF relies entirely on voluntary donations from individuals, companies and governments and the funds raised from the auction will go towards education, health and nutrition, protection and emergency programs for children who are the hardest to reach and most in need,” said UNICEF Country Representative Tomoo Hozumi.
