Araneta by Maria Lina Santiago

By | Hot Off the Press | 7 Comments

Thank you Tita Lina for sending me a copy of your beautiful book.  This is the second book on Victoria Lopez de Araneta written by her family. How I wish I had met her!  She must have been a great woman.

What a grand gesture to dedicate and document the lives of the people who we love and admire.

I am so proud to say that I am part of this family…..  We all share the same value of LOVE for GOD, FAMILY and for our COUNTRY!  We really need to live up to our family who have been great examples to others.

Tita Lina, I hope that your book will inspire many others and many future generations.

Sakura

By | Foodie, Travel | No Comments

Whenever in Subic with Dad and Mom, Sakura is a definite stop.   They have good japanese food and an extensive menu. They have a branch in Araneta Coliseum near Starbucks but it is called Sachi.   (Taken from the website of Araneta Coliseum):

Sachiko Hirano’s Sakura Restaurant at Times Square in Subic, has a good following despite its distance from Metro Manila. It attracts people who seek authentic Japanese cuisine at its finest. Recognizing this, Hirano decided to put up a branch at the heart of Quezon City, Araneta Center. “Same quality, same management”, Hirano says. Like its Subic counterpart, Sachi at the Coliseum Circle offers excellent wasyoku or traditional Japanese cuisine, like sushi, sashimi, tempura, gohanmono (rice with topping), noodles, agemono (deep-fried items), yakimono (grilled foods), nimono (simmered dishes), teppanyaki (dishes grilled on hot iron plate), nabermono (one pot dishes like sukiyaki and shabu-shabu), Japanese style steaks, desserts and other house specials prepared by executive chef Tadashi Noda and his staff.

My Best Buy from Royal Subic

By | Finds, What's new at Shopwise? | No Comments

For the plastic organizer addicts out there, I found some great plastic containers at Royal Subic.  They only cost US$ 1.10 ( 4 pack rectangular ), US$ 1.15 ( 2 pack large size ) and US$ 1.35 ( 4 pack square).  That is much much cheaper than the organizers in the Japan Home store where everything is P 88.00 and these come in packs of 2 and 4!  They come in different colors, if I remember correctly – they had orange and neon green aside from the black, white and pink that I bought. I am going back to BUY MORE!!! I am obsessed with these things even if my things are still messy and maybe might not even have things to put in them 🙂

Cantinetta

By | Foodie | One Comment

This is my brother’s ( Noey ) favorite restaurant! and also a family favorite on both sides of the family.  We ate here for his birthday this year and also last year.  Gerry and Tina eat here every week with Dad and their kids.

In my personal opinion, this is one of the Italian restaurants in our country that is comparable to the ones in Italy. The only thing lacking is being in Italy itself.  I highly recommend Cantinetta for Italian food.

One of the BEST Spaghetti bolognese!!! YUMMY!!!

dsc_3731.JPGcantinetta-book13.jpgdsc_3695.JPG

THE BEST TARTUFO ( Truffle ) PASTA, you must have this if you like tartufo.  It normally comes in fettucine noodles, but I prefer always spaghetti noodles.  Either way, it is YUMMY!!!

THE BEST SCALOPPINE MILANESE!!! Comparable to the one in Italy!  TRY it if you like breaded veal or we sometimes call this Cotoletti or Costoleta ala Milanese.

This is the manager of the restaurant. Wow!  Italian Manager for an Italian restaurant!  No wonder it is good!!

I like him because he did not stop me from taking photos!  🙂

Garage Sale by Tessa

By | Classifieds/Segunda Mano, Giving Back | 3 Comments

tessasgaragesalebook1.jpg

Heart2Heart was at Tessa’s house at 7:30 am and there were already quite a number of people going through the many things that Tessa had for sale.  This is one of the most organized Garage sales I have ever been to.

1.)  All the items were properly sorted by category

2.)  Most of the items had price tags

3.)  They had receipts to give to the customers

4.)  There were guards by the gate to check all the people going out and checking the items with the receipt

5.)  There were people in charge of the different responsibilities – pricing, cashiering, guarding, etc etc.

Thank you to Tessa for generously sharing her blessings.  She has a lot of blessings, a lot things for herself but she generously gives them away too….. for charity.  Popsie was telling her to send down more toys since the toy department was running out and the next thing you knew, she sent down more toys 🙂

tessasgaragesalebook17.jpg

As soon as Tessa came down to greet everyone and check on the sale, the ambience of the whole event changed.  She just has this personality that is so alive and fun.  Then she brought down her Ipod and put some music!  That was so cool!  A garage sale with music!  🙂 She is just as colorful as the many things that she had in the garage sale.

dsc_4678.jpg

Being the Sea Princess, she had some fish decorations hanging in her tents…tessasgaragesalebook2.jpgtessasgaragesalebook13.jpg

Some friends of Heart2Heart came over and cousins of Tessa stopped by before their saturday biking routine…

Popsie seemed to be the head honcho of everything.  I found her so amusing as she would talk to the customers and try to explain not to bargain so much as the proceeds would go to the “mga batang may bulate.”  She is so funny!  Then she was the one responsible for placing the price tags on the items the day before

All proceeds go to the National Orthopedic Hospital – psychiatric ward for kids.  They will buy nebulizers, medicines and pediatric wheelchairs.  Also, the proceeds to go to around one thousand children in Roxas City, Capiz for deworming.

tessasgaragesalebook15-1.jpg

Marlon was the one in charge of pricing the items especially the clothes, gowns, shoes and accessories of Tessa

tessasgaragesalebook16.jpg

I was surprised to see my bootcamp classmate Girlie.  She is part of batch ’81 and was in charge of the first shift.  She was the cashier listing down all the items in the receipt and accepting payments.  It was a tough job as the lines were long very early in the morning.

tessasgaragesalebook14.jpgtessasgaragesalebook19.jpg

Tessa had any many things to choose from, not only her fashion items that she is known for. There were home items, picture frames ( with her photos in them ), children’s clothes, DVDs, some electronic items, sofas, chairs, and toys.

Some of the customers of course wanted to have a picture with the celebrity

tessasgaragesalebook26.jpg

Time to shop again and then next year maybe you will have PART2!  Thanks Tessa for your generosity.  I am sure you were attached to many of your things that had sentimental value to you, but yet you willingly shared them with others who will benefit from them.  You will surely be helping a lot of children.  Thanks also to Assumption batch ’81 for spearheading the event!  What a great idea!tessasgaragesalebook22.jpg

This is my first time to meet Minnie who is the sister of Booboop and Tita of my friend Tricia.  We had Minnie’s wraps and pastries for our family Sunday lunch and we enjoyed! Thanks Minnie!

More power to you!

About a month or two ago, Minnie introduced her wraps.  I saw her at The Rockwell Souk where she was selling them.  Minnie said that they can do a WRAP BOOTH/TABLE in any party or catering and they can make the wraps fresh and right in front of you.
