Matching Outfits

Was it the fashion during the 80’s to have matching outfits for the whole family? We definitely had a lot of them 🙂

I actually like the idea, If I had a daughter, I would not mind wearing matching outfits with her….. though nowadays we would probably get a lot of stares from people wondering what we are doing.  And no, boots were not the “in” thing, those were correction shoes we had to wear since we were all bow legged 🙂

Nowadays, it is only the kids who we coerce to dress alike

And only once during the year do I let my sons dress alike and it is during Christmas – mostly for the family photo that we do traditionally..and so far they have been very cooperative scan0018.jpgdsc00046.JPGimg_2600.jpgdsc03955.JPGdsc_0025.JPGdsc_6989.JPG

Guess where it’s still pretty usual for the family to be in matching outfits (not just the kids but mom and dad was well) – here in Spain. It’s their typical weekend / holiday look. Next time I’ll take a photo so you can see what I mean.

Thank you for sharing these family photographs. I take my hat off to Junjun and Noey, and to Jaime and Javier for their cooperation with the assortment of motifs. Yes, those were our Naughty Nines.

  • hi there! your article was referred to me by a client. i looove your old matching photos. i have to dig up some of mine. i was also made to wear matching outfits with my two brothers back when i was about 2yrs old.
i am a stickler for that until now…in fact, i turned my hobby into a small business called KATRICEwear. i do matching outfits for moms-daughters, dads-sons.
so far, ive discovered a lot of parents sharing my same cheesy passion for dressing up alike.. don’t worry, my styling is not your usual cute-sy type. they are things that the moms themselves would not mind wearing..

hope you can check out my site… http://www.katricewear.multiply.com

also have a bazaar this weekend at rockwell ‘s EXPO MOM. may9-10. you may see the clothes there. many thanks!

    Dear Rica,

Thank you for this post! Your lovely and memorable childhood reflective in your photos have really cultivated long hidden feelings of nostalgia too. Will forward this to Rieta as this fashion moment carved us to work hard to have separate persoanlities – which obviously proved more perplexing for parents and friends. All in the same mode, I salute to the bygone era where unity and strong family ties prevailed.
Sending you our warmest wishes on Mother’s day rics , also our love goes to TiTa menchu and maricar. All gereat mothers in your family!
