We were so happy to see Mayette during our visit to Sydney. Maybe some of you know Mayette as she used to be the Store Manager at Rustan’s Supermarket Makati. She is very popular among the regular clients though she left 13 years ago to migrate to Australia where her husband, Francis, was working already for 3 years. She decided to follow. Mayette is very funny, very entertaining, very sweet and very kind.
Her office was right behind our hotel, Sheraton on the Park. She now works with David Jones department store in the Customer Service department.
I am not surprised why she got that job because she fits it perfectly as she is very good with handling customers. She told us some stories about her job and how she was interviewed when she applied in David Jones. She told them that she used to work for the best store in the Philippines, Rustan’s, and took care of the President of the Philippines, Mrs. Amelita Ramos. She even had a photo with her which she showed to the one interviewing her. The interviewer then asked if she knew the more popular First Lady, Imelda Marcos…. sure enough Mayette had a photo with her too. Hence, she got the job! 🙂 While working and answering the phone from customers, she told us that there was even a gentleman customer who asked her out for tea…and Mayette told him…”But Sir, my voice may sound young and beautiful but I am really old and ugly!!” 🙂 SHE IS HILARIOUS!! I can sit all day and just listen to her. We all love her! and will miss her again until we see her…

Hi RLJ, thanks for this update. Mayette has always been like that.
If I may share lang something about her. When I was a Store Manager in Rustans Supermarket Cubao, Mayette was an attendant at the Snackyard .
She was always pleasant and bubbly. One day she made a request if she could take the morning shift for her to study at night and seeing her determination, we granted her request. She enrolled ar Ortanez University [ closed already ] along Aurora Blvd and everyday she would walk to school which was about 2 kilometers from the store. It took her a while to graduate since she could not take a full load due to her job. Her perseverance paid off and she finally graduated. She was transferred to other departments and got promoted. I worked with her again when she was designated as General Services Head where she performed outstandingly. One time I told her that she really belonged to Store Opertions not to an office job. She took the advice which was really a sacrifice on her part [ long hours , having to work on weekends and holidays ] and she transferred to Rustans Expresslane
at Farmers Plaza as Outlet Head and that paved the way for further career growth for her.
On the personal side, while working at Farmers, she met Francis who became her husband.
Mayette is a success story and I am happy for her. I am proud to have worked with Mayette.
Thanks Penny and Jess for sharing your experiences with Mayette! She is so good at taking care of everyone that is why many love her!
Hi Rica , thank you very much for such beautiful comments. Rustan’s will always be in my heart. May I please humbly share the success of my career to Rustan’s co-employees to serve as an inspiration. It all started in Rustan Supermarket-Makati:
In July 1975 I was employed as Bakeshop sales clerk where I enjoyed cooking Doughnuts , the queue is very long in which even foreigners in Ayala are lined up waiting to be served. I wanted to practice speaking English, so I talked to them by promoting other Bakery products in which most of them became my “suki”.
In 1977 I was transferred as Snackyard attendant in Cubao as what Mr Dilao said. I enjoyed cooking hotdogs, preparing sandwiches, helping the boys scooping ice cream and promoted the delicious churros con chocolate’.
In 1980 I was transferred as Marketing staff where I had so much fun working with Mrs Maraya and Mrs Beth Inting.
Then Mrs Girlie Silpedes backed me up to get the vacant position as Bakeshop-Makati Supervisor
in 1984. After 7 years I met a lot of my “suki” again.
In 1985 Mr Dilao promoted me as GSD -Head at the Cubao Office. He promoted me again as Express lane -Cubao Outlet Head in 1986, and recommended me as Sotre Branch Manager-Cubao in 1990, and to my favourite Branch -Makati until 1995.
With my new responsibility, I’ve carried out my job as expected to be ever conscientious and efficient in my work. In all my undertakings, I’ve always remembered the best interest of the Company.
My learned expertise in Retailing [ specially EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE ] for 20 years from Rustan’s will always be a treasure that I will bring whereever I go. I will always be proud to serve Rustan’s family the best I can.
Lastly RLJ, May I please take this opportunity to thank some very important and special people to my success. Thank you.
