Daing in Naga Market

By September 10, 2009 Finds, Travel 7 Comments

This is the second thing my bestfriend Eds told me to do. Buy ” Nora Aunor” in the market! She actually said to just send someone to the market and have them buy it…but Mom and I went because we wanted to see for ourselves. Eds told me also to bring a tupperware to put the daing inside so that we could bring it home.  It will avoid having your other things in your luggage/bag smelling like daing.  Next time, I need to bring a really big tupperware so Ic an bring home more !! 🙂

WOW!! They have a section dedicated to dried fish.  How organized can they be?  I told you someone is behind this!

We were trying to figure out which one was Nora Aunor…and the guy heard us talking and he said this one… called “NEW LOOK.”  So we got some.  We tried it and it was really good!

Though Eds told me that Nora Aunor apparently is seasonal……So maybe they were offering something similar called “New look.”

New Look! it’s the best, I swear. I don’t know if it’s the same as Nora Aunor but New Look is my fave dried fish from Bicol. It’s not too salty and it’s kinda moist. Naga also has the best tuyo and abo.

    Ms. Rica,

Next time when you are in Bicol, go a little further southeast and try to explore Catanduanes. The best months to go would be during March – May. I swear you would forget that this is a typhoon ravaged province.

Seafood is plentiful and generally sold for a song. The “alimango” from this place is really delicious. The beaches are so beautiful – you can see the bottom of the sea in some places because the waters are so clear. There are some areas where one can go surfing.

If you love old churches, we have one in Bato – it was built during the Spanish era pa.

Nenette, I hardly eat daing but I love NEW LOOK! even my kids love it 🙂 Now I regret buying too little.
Ms. Tugado, are you from Bicol? I hope I can go to Catanduanes also!

BTW, Rica, LRay Villafuerte may take credit for CWC, Caramoan and the rest of the province, but I think Jesse Robredo (Naga mayor) deserves credit for Naga.

  • Rica says:

Nenette, according to my friend Eds, you are right! Mayor Robredo is a Harvard graduate and is very smart and very transparent with all his projects

Ms. Rica, I am from Bicol. We come from Catanduanes, but we also have relatives in Naga. I hope you would find the time to explore my province – really, really a beautiful place.

This is interesting. Even the humble “daing” is named after Nora Aunor? Must be a special “daing”. I have not been to Bicol but I will try to visit next time I go back home. When is “Nora Aunor” in season?
