Today I pay tribute to my all time idol, my late grandmother, Lola Glecy.  She is one of the pioneers in Philippine retailing.    She has met many great retailers, world leaders and many other great personalities from all over the world and she impressed them all!!  She is a woman ahead of her time, a woman with impeccable taste and a remarkable person that makes us Filipinos proud for she proved how a woman and a Filipina can achieve great things!!

To everyone at work, she is known to us as GRT.  You can ask all the old timers at Rustan’s department store who have encountered GRT and they will always have an inspiring or touching moment in their lives from GRT.  We all admire her and try to follow her….which is very difficult..because no one will ever be like her.  Though she is not physically with us anymore, she is very much alive in our hearts and in our everyday life.

She was the one who inspired me to continue my research about Philippine arts and Crafts when I met her at the opening of Folk arts/CCP which showcased my partial research of ethnic houses decoration and designs showcasing houses of igorots , Bale Kapampangan (which shows as her favorite and the mountain dweller aetas. those words are still fresh on my memory that serves as my unending inspiration until now. ” Continue enrich and this will become your hidden treasure”

    Hi Rica,

Thanks for sharing these wonderful paintings of GRT. It was such a gift to have experienced her love and passion for retail. So much of her she was able to leave not only with your Titas’ and Tito, but all of you her grandchildren, where many of her dreams have been passed on to.

It will be truly hard to erase the memory of GRT whose vision she was able to experience in her lifetime.

    Vida

GRT is indeed one of a kind, a great inspiration to all. Personally, she´s a big influence in my life I secretly looked up to her as my 2nd mother. Having the opportunity to work with her until her last breath was a great honor, it was a blessing knowing her. She will always be in my thoughts & prayers.
