“Hi, Good evening.  My name is Vicky, and I would like to thank you all for attending the Angel Brigade Photo Exhibit and Silent Auction Opening here at Rockwell. The opening remarks will be given by one of the volunteers of Angel brigade who never ceases to amaze me.  She is Managing Director of Isdanco, she is a writer, plus she is a wife and she has four sons.  She often says

“THE ANGELS ARE WITH US ALWAYS…TIME TO FLY”

And she would know, because she is an angel to many of us.  One of the kindest people I know.  Tisha Cruz- Bautista

img_8178.jpgimg_8201.JPGimg_8203.jpg

From 5 volunteers to now 1,400!!

There was a display of food items which were the relief goods that were being donated last year

angelsbrigade12a.jpgangelsbrigade13a.jpg

What was interesting was that Gaita turned all these relief goods into very elegant and very delicious cocktails!  Gaita is so good at making something so simple and ordinary and making it so delicious and even elegant!  Leave it to her to always think out of the box and come up with great ideas!

Tisha said that it was very short notice and of course Gaita is always willing to help a good friend, a good cause and always shares and shares – another ANGEL here on earth!

img_8209.jpgimg_8104.JPG

Gaita even printed the recipes and gave it as a giveaway for the event

Furla Donna Autumn Winter 2010

By | Fashion, What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

The Furla Autumn Winter 2010-2011 collection is for an elegant and worldly woman. She’s an explorer, escaping from everyday life to exotic lands. She develops an emotional attachment, virtual memories of her travels.

 furlabags2010a.jpg

Every detail becomes a tile in the mosaic of her mind. From the leopard print coat, to the reptile skin, to the colors of the stones and butterflies, the delicate tanning of leather, and the weaving in the upholstery fabric.

The new collection is comprised of illusions; repetitive digital techniques that create patterns or new surfaces.

In the early 1900’s, one of the great explorers, Freya Stark, sported zippered bags. These elegant silhouettes and feminine forms of yesteryear are transformed in the new collection, updated to be lightweight and functional. Moreover, her old travelling trunks were outlined by a cloth cover. This inspired Furla’s collection to include exterior layers. It’s a decorative and bold look. The virtual safari illuminates. Fluorescent flashes highlight the natural beauty of the deep and intense jewel tones.

 furla-bagsb.jpg

Colours: onyx black, sand, clay brown, filler grey, musk green, red earth.

Materials: velvet effect calf leather, crocodile printed buffalo leather, Himalayan leopard printed pony skin, astrakhan.

A new elegance with a contemporary approach presents femininity as lived day by day with irony and cheerfulness.

Elegant silhouettes and feminine shapes designed to be both functional and stylish, plus ease and comfort have inspired Furla’s new shoe collection for autumn/winter 2010-2011.

furlashoes2010a.jpg

Understated styles with sophisticated and classic shapes play on cuts and lengths while rubber bands give a modern edge to the shoes.

A casual-chic interpretation is obtained by the use of particular and gritty leathers like velvet effect calf leather, soft nappa leather, Himalayan leopard printed calfskin suede, crust leather and deer printed calfskin.

Sporty models are re-shaped in a sophisticated and feminine way. A tank sole characterizes boots, sandals to wear with stockings and booties in crust leather or deer. Details and astrakhan turn-ups on boots give a touch of frivolity.

Warm colours of the autumn permeate the whole collection and create a metropolitan look with echoes of emotions and memories of remote journeys.

In the Philippines, Furla is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and is located at Greenbelt 5, Rustan’s Makati, and Shangri-La Plaza Mall.

By | Arts and Culture, Homes and Interiors | No Comments

At Casa San Miguel is also the home of Elmer and Plet Borlongan. Plet is the sister of Coke

You cannot believe how thrilled we were to actually meet the famous Elmer Borlongan.  We were hoping to get a souvenir from the famous couple but we all know that there is a long long waiting list to get Elmer’s works of art.  Thank you for allowing me to share your home at Heart2Heart… It is a work of art in itself

img_6535.JPG

A nice tree house under a mango tree!

img_6537.JPGimg_6538.JPGimg_6540.jpgimg_6552.jpg

How can you possibly put a price on these works of art of Elmer?? Even if you want to buy one, he will not sell them.  Many beautiful works of art were all over the house, many of them from long ago and in his early days of painting

img_6541.JPGimg_6543.jpgimg_6545.jpgimg_6593.JPGimg_6547.JPGimg_6626.jpgimg_6627.jpg

Plet and Elmer have their own studios but there is a bridge that connect the two studios

img_6611.JPGimg_6629.JPGimg_6630.JPG

Plet is also an artist!  My Mom, my sister and I really really liked her works! Very lively, colorful and fun!  Plet is busy preparing for a show which includes her sculptures – women and animals in the nude is her theme

img_6633.jpgimg_6638.JPGimg_6635.jpgimg_6636.jpgimg_6637.jpgimg_6634.JPGimg_6639.jpg

And Elmer’s Studio which was off limits for my camera as he was preparing for his next show – so the works are not allowed to be published

img_6571.jpgimg_6641.JPGimg_6608.jpg

Of course, everyone wants a photo with Elmer and Plet, Thank you for sharing your valuable works of art and your beautiful home with us.  Hopefully next time, we can have your work of art as a souvenir 🙂  More power to you both!!

The most important part of the visit to Casa San Miguel ( Casa San Miguel Center for the Arts, Zambales Sept. 21, 2010 ) was to know more about what Coke does.  The children of Casa San Miguel performed for us that day in their music hall and we were really all amazed.  Do take time out to listen to the kids play.  See the 5 videos below on their performance

What to Expect from Marc by Marc Jacobs this coming Fall 2010

By | Fashion, What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

marcbymarc2010a.jpg

Marc Jacobs moves away from his previous year’s 80’s-inspired collection to a more subdued, conservative look for his diffusion line Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2010 collection. With an array of casual chromatic pieces, the fashion forward designer caters to stylish students at the same time maintaining his seat as the leading trendsetter. With the fashionable workaholics in mind, Jacobs put his mark on the ever-comfortable jersey material, versatile cottons, and even experiments with crochet thread for the Bronte Lace top which ended up as the most coveted piece by notable fashion magazine editors.

marcbymarc2010b.jpg

The most romantic piece amongst the “army surplus” garb stood out to balance the other-wise somber toned collection that included olive green twill shorts, black satin pants, and shadow grey wool sweaters. Editors also saluted the Reilly Heringbone set as commander of the military inspired collection seeing that it was perfect for the working woman. Overall, this well-received collection was commended for its versatility and “wearability” being that it presented a wide range of casual and formal items such as trousers, button downs, and outerwear. The structured silhouettes and geek chic vintage styles carry a certain “timelessness and enduring” quality that will be popular among today’s youthful urbanites.
