LUSH’S FROST FAIR IS IN TOWN
BUT YOU NEED TO BE QUICK … BEFORE THE BIG THAW!!
In England, all of our traditional Christmas imagery comes from a bygone age of snow-covered buildings, excited children ice-skating on lakes and puffed out robins on icy shrubbery. These scenes depict how England used to be in the olden days, when the severity of the climate meant it was cold enough to actually freeze the Thames allowing people to skate on the river, parade on the frozen waters and hold festivals and fairs on them – known as Frost Fairs.
Today, it’s unimaginable that the Thames would freeze solid enough to enable us to do all of these things and that’s partly because of the effects of climate change. Although we may occasionally still get really cold winters like the last one in the UK, we have seen a global warming trend, with 2009 being the 5th warmest year on record and 2010 set to be the warmest.
With this in mind we wanted to create a range of festive products in homage to those days before climate change took hold and you could go to a Frost Fair on the river. Introducing the Lush Frost Fair – with a whole host of innovative wares inspired by different traditions from around the world. You might recognize some, you might not – some are the epitome of Christmas, some aren’t. But one thing is for sure; each and every one will be made with the highest quality ingredients, not tested on animals and packaging kept to a minimum … these things are Lush traditions!

Snow Fairy tinted lip balm… Snow Fairies are extremely popular at Lush, they visit our shops every year and makes thousands of Christmas wishes come true. This year we thought we’d try to make the Snow Fairies wishes come true with this new tinted lip balm containing all the ingredients we thought a Snow Fairy would like to keep her pout pink, soft and deliciously sugary. Containing softening murumuru butter and cupuacu butter, along with dried raspberries, sherbet and icing sugar … lips will be left soft, smooth and a pretty pink. Our tinted lip balms can also be used as a cheek highlighter – giving all Snow Fairies their pretty, rosy hue. Vegan
Sugar Plum Fairy shower scrub … a fantastic scrub to keep Sugar Plum Fairies looking their very best. Iced Wine shower jelly … a Canadian winter beverage, Iced Wine is made by picking frost-bitten grapes. It has a very strong but fruity flavour, which we’ve used in this shower jelly. Containing grapefruit oil and bergamot for a refreshing zinginess, along with buchu oil to add a touch of the tropical. Freeze or chill it for an invigorating wash to wake you up on cold winter mornings. Vegetarian
Lip Dip lip scrub … a sugary sweet, lemon sherbet lip scrub that smoothes winter lips and leaves them tasting absolutely delicious. Not only does it taste incredible, it’s also a winter must have – containing scrubby sherbet and Fairtrade sugar to exfoliate away any dry, flakey skin, along with softening almond oil to nourish and keep Christmas kisses soft. Once you’ve exfoliated lips with Lip Dip, smother them with some Maple Taffy lip balm and wait for the stampede under the mistletoe! Inspired by the Canadian festive tradition of rolling sticky, gooey maple sap in snow and making a sweet lolly treat, this lip balm is made of 20% maple syrup for that delicious flavour. Snow Globe soap … imagine yourself inside a snow globe – snow fluttering all around and a feeling of being refreshed, revitalized and uplifted. Well, this soap will make you feel all of the above, with a citrusy lemon myrtle, grapefruit and lemongrass blend that will bluster your senses and wake you up on cold winter mornings. The whole soap is in the shape of a snow globe, with white circles to imitate the snowflakes. A beautiful alternative to all the traditional festive offerings. Vegan
Winter Bath ballistic … a lovely warming bath ballistic to keep you happy and healthy during the cold winter months, it contains lots of ginger oil and absolute, clove bud and lemongrass to stimulate the senses and get the circulation going. Bathing in a nice hot bath before bedtime is the perfect way to keep you nice and toasty throughout the night, but hot water can also be drying on the skin. So Winter Bath has shavings of cocoa butter and soya milk powder to help soften and nourish the skin at the same time. Vegan
TRADITIONAL ENGLISH OFFERINGS …
Mandarin’s Tea Party soap … for some, it’s a very English tradition to give children a Rupert Bear annual at Christmas. Open pretty much any Rupert annual and you’ll be whisked away with Rupert and chums to faraway lands for exotic adventures, tea parties and a touch of oriental magic. In the 1969 annual Rupert attends a Mandarin Tea Party, which is the inspiration for this spicy, fruity, refreshing soap. There’s obviously a lot of mandarin oil in this one, but there’s also fresh orange juice, crystallized ginger and dried orange slices for a real warming, exotic, spicy touch. The fragrance is a version of the beautiful new Orange Blossom perfume, with a touch of neroli to lift your mood and keep your spirits up in the bleak mid-winter. Vegan
Once a Year massage bar … Christmas (or Santa) comes around only once a year, but here at Lush we want to encourage people to massage their loved ones more than this so this is our hint to those stingy ‘once a year’ masseurs! This massage bar is pink, like Santa’s cheeks and has his big bushy white moustache on top. The fragrance is a mixture of all the things people usually leave out for Santa on Christmas Eve, so we called it Santa’s Snack! We included oranges, tangerines, hazelnut oil, almond essential oil, cognac oil and brandy. Warm the bar between hands and smooth the super-softening cocoa butter and shea butter over skin. Vegan
Satsumo Santa bath ballistic … traditionally children would wake up to find a satsuma in their stocking on Christmas Morning, so this is the perfect alternative!
