Banana Republic Spring 2011 Key Items

By March 21, 2011 Fashion, Summer No Comments

Taking off from the travel cues of Banana Republic’s Spring/Summer Collection are key pieces that let its wearer discover and explore at ease. Inspired by shades of the sea and the lightness of watercolor paint, these new pieces are light, airy and perfect for the spring season.

The deep blue ocean inspires the navy color that is so important for the season as a new base. Denim dark rinse and saturated mélanges in yarns feel fresh for spring, and serve as a good base to splash the new watercolor ranges and lighter fabrications off. Ivory is the new white, as it plays geometrically against the blue with subtle nautical references of painted stripes, airy checks and whimsical prints. Draping like waves is the new feminine detail for a less constricted feel.

The color for the season is washed by water like a palette of simple paints used by watercolor artists. The blending and blurred edges of the watercolor technique of painting feel approachable and natural while creating hundreds of sophisticated levels within a brushstroke. Nothing feels totally solid this season as the use of color feels painterly and uneven rather than solid. Print is not flat but feels manually treated as in hand decoration or wood-block technique.
