Cento: The Secret of the World’s Brightest Diamond
Roberto Coin introduces Cento, an enchanting diamond with 100 facets, nearly twice as many facets as a traditional round brilliant cut. The result is an incomparable brilliance.
“Cento” Diamond
The Diamond is the most famous precious stone. Not only is it a symbol of value, but also of love, light and beauty. A diamond is a masterpiece of nature, unique and special in its allure and rarity. Offered as a gift to celebrate love, it is adored by women and men alike. A diamond is a messenger of enduring love; it represents a lifelong promise, a timeless symbol, an expression of emotion.
Starting from this concept of uniqueness, which is the main feature of diamonds, Roberto Coin, always looking for new trends to support his belief in “The art of being unique”, has taken on a new challenge: to make this extraordinary and meaningful stone even more exceptional. But what could capture the essence of a diamond to make it even more magical? The secret is to achieve a unique brightness which can spread light, so intense, as it has never been seen before. This is obtained by means of a totally innovative cut with almost double the number of facets compared to the traditional round brilliant cut: a total of 100 facets, instead of 57, through which light has a longer refraction, thus obtaining a true “Kaleidoscopic” effect.
Thanks to this brilliant idea, years of research, and the cooperation of the best gem-cutters in the world, Cento was born: a diamond with 100 facets and an exclusive patent by Roberto Coin. Cento is a diamond which shines through the ordinary, spreading a beautiful and breathtaking light. A true masterpiece.
Roberto Coin guides you to purchase the best diamonds
Nobody knows better than Roberto Coin the importance of the cut to enhance the light, “the fire” and the life of each diamond. Apart from the number of facets, a round brilliant cut must also be perfectly completed with exact proportions, neither too deep nor too shallow, in order to reflect light, not disperse it – to allow it to be refracted within its many facets. Colour, purity and carat weight are natural characteristics of a diamond. Cut is the only added value, the result of the ability, experience and skill of the master cutter. The Cento displays a unique floral pattern, and its extraordinary brilliance is it’s proof. Cento is the result of Roberto Coin’s creativity: a cut with the innovation to change the traditional round brilliant with its 9-fold symmetry instead of the standard 8-fold. Multiply this by the 11 facet sections, adding the top face (referred to as the “table”) and the final result is the desired 100 facets. The outcome is a symmetrical diamond, but not mirror-like, a design impossible to be executed by means of computers. Therefore, the Cento is exclusively cut and polished by hand by the best master diamond-cutters of the world, even in the smallest carat weights (down to 0.07 carat).
The “4 C’s” of Cento.
The Cento selection is strictly based on the “4 C” evaluation system. This is an internationally recognized code of classification, which classifies diamonds on the basis of 4 main parameters: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight. Every diamond therefore is evaluated within an official scale of value using these four criteria.
Carat Weight.
The size of a diamond, specifically its carat weight, is the first parameter of evaluation for the inexperienced observer (1 carat is equal to 100 points). Despite its fundamental importance, the size of a diamond is not in itself a guarantee of its value. In fact, it must be considered together with the other parameters – colour, clarity and cut – in order to get a complete and effective assessment of the diamond value. Roberto Coin guarantees that on all the pieces belonging to the Cento Collection, the 100 facet cut is applied to all diamonds weighting from 0.07 carat and larger.
Color.
A diamond value highly depends on its colour, or better said, its lack of colour. The more transparent and colourless a diamond is, indeed the more precious and rare it is. Natural diamonds occur in various colour shades. For the Cento Collection, Roberto Coin selects only colourless and near colourless diamonds. The Cento diamond is without a doubt unrivalled in terms of brightness.
Clarity.
Only the purest of diamonds become Cento diamonds. Another parameter extremely important when evaluating a diamond is its clarity, the presence of natural micro-elements (inclusions) which have been “trapped” inside the stone which determine its uniqueness. These perfectly natural traces affect the diamond’s rarity, and therefore its value. Cento diamonds belong to the first levels of the clarity range: from FL (flawless) to SI (small inclusions, not visible to the naked eye).
Cut.
The Cento diamond is the perfect proportion cut. The “cut” of a diamond concerns the proportions of the different parts of the stone: table, crown, girdle and pavilion. It is a fundamental feature considering that the brilliance of a diamond can only be guaranteed by a cut executed with perfect proportions, not too deep, nor too shallow. Cento diamonds are selected among the best diamond rough available on the market which are cut with the utmost care, attention and passion, in order to reach the severe quality standards required by Roberto Coin.
The guaranteed value of a Cento diamond
With the co-operation of the most skilled international gemmologists, Roberto Coin exclusively selects the most beautiful and valuable diamonds for his Cento Collection. This selection is based not only on the international standard parameters of evaluation, but also with a more personal and sensitive judgement, which considers and interprets each single diamond as a unique and incomparable masterpiece of nature. For this reason, owning a Cento diamond means having the total guarantee of possessing a fabulous stone with secure value.
Certification
All Cento diamonds weighing 0.25 carats and above, are accompanied by a certificate of quality. From 1 carat and larger, the Cento diamonds are graded by GIA. The Gemological Institute of America is the most authoritative independent international institute for the grading of diamonds, thanks to the modern technology it applies.
Not only diamonds. A little ruby is hidden inside every piece by Roberto Coin, including the marvellous pieces belonging to the Cento Collection. A mystical history is carried by each one of these beautiful deep red stones.
The meaning of the ruby
Due to their exceptional quality of maintaining their beauty unaltered throughout time, Rubies have always been considered eternal, like true love, and have always been surrounded by a halo of legend, granting them magic powers. In accordance with an ancient belief, wearing a ruby close to the skin promoted a long life, blessed with health and happiness. In 1996, Roberto Coin started signing his jewels by setting a small ruby hidden on the inside of each piece, allowing direct skin contact with the gem. Since then, this tradition has been perpetuated in all collections, and has become the exclusive signature of every jewel by Roberto Coin, dedicated as a secret gift of good wishes to every woman lucky enough to enjoy wearing and loving one of his exclusive creations.
