The giant leap to the job of your dreams

 jobgantic-aaa-poster.jpg

JobStreet.com, the No. 1 Job Site in the country, gives the biggest career break there is for all jobseekers who want to leap to their job of their dreams through the JobGantic Career Fair 2011 on August 12 and 13 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

A total of 158,600 job vacancies in various fields of specializations from over 250 local employers and overseas recruitment firms are up for grabs at the leading job portal’s major event this year, which is taunted to be their biggest job fair ever. At present, pre-registration for the said event has totaled to over 45,000, a clear indication of that its 40,000 target number of jobseekers who will participate in the event will be surpassed.

Yoda Buyco, JobStreet.com’s marketing director says, “JobStreet.com is known to have the most number of employers including the top ones in the country. Hence, jobseekers can expect thousands of local jobs at the event. But in an internal study conducted by our Company, we found out the 25% or 850,000 of our total number of jobseekers (3.5M) opt in to (apply) for overseas jobs. This is the reason why we have clearly ensured that we are going to have our overseas recruitment client-firms with us.”

JobGantic Career Fair offers a good mix of employers and recruitment firms with 75% or 188 participating companies hiring for local employment while 25% or 62 others are for overseas employment. Of the mentioned 158,600 jobs that will be available at the event, 64% are for local employment and the remaining 36% are for jobs abroad.

As the event estimates more than 40, 000 jobseekers to attend the job fair, Jobstreet.com innovates a way to give these jobseekers an easier way gain entrance the career fair without the hassles of long and endless lines. Jobseekers are encouraged to pre-register at www.jobstreet.com to get a faster lane voucher. This voucher ensures the jobseeker immunity from long lines that hinders them from getting the most out of the career fair.

Meanwhile, a closer look at the demographics of the pre-registered jobseekers reflect that 49% of them are coming from the National Capital Region followed by those from the rest of Luzon at 41%. Based on work experience metrics, 45% of those who wish to try their luck at the fair are those with one to four years of work experience; 20% are those who are currently holding supervisor level or with five years or more work experience; and 17% are fresh grads and those with less than one year work experience.

Finally, JobGantic Career Fair has also invited some government agencies to provide jobseeker service assistance to include the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Social Security System (SSS), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA).  The inclusion of these agencies will better help the jobseekers land their dream jobs, whether here or abroad, and will also give the assurance of non-fraud transactions.

Since we arrived at around 2pm already, the waitress told us that we would have to wait 30 minutes for a whole order of peking duck but we would get a half order right away – so of course we chose the half! 🙂  Maybe someone ordered half at the same time we arrived.  We were so hungry and I guess good for us anyway not to have too much especially of the skin! It is WOOD FIRED OVEN Peking Duck!

Wynn Macau

By | Accomodations, Travel | One Comment

The Wynn hotel is one of the newest hotels in Macau and we were happy to be here.  It looks exactly like the Vegas hotel and even the rooms are the same.  There are two towers – Encore Towers and Wynn Towers.  We stayed at the Wynn Towers but James said we should have stayed at the Encore.  I was already happy where we were…and so nice to have a nice home in Macau

Hong Kong Roast

By | Foodie | 4 Comments

After arriving from Hong Kong, James and I discovered this “hole in the wall” restaurant in San Antonio Village!!!  WE LOVE IT!!!  No frills but really tasty and YUMMY Chinese food!  We met the owner, Mary, and she told us that she really loves to cook and she really researches how to make certain dishes and goes to Hong Kong often because she loves Chinese food.  We highly recommend this place!  And if you have no time or in a rush, you can order for delivery!  We had quite a number of dishes and we liked everything – high on the list of course is the pork asado, salted baked chicken, fried pork chop shallot rice, the shallot rice alone will be a good rice accompaniment, and the salt and pepper squid!! AMAZING!  No need to go all the way to Hong Kong to get yummy chinese food and not to mention…at very very reasonable prices!

hong-kong-roast-08.jpg

At the unlikely junction between Bagtikan Street and Sacred Heart Road in the heart of San Antonio Village in Makati lies a quaint and unpretentious little restaurant. With roast chickens hanging from the window, the restaurant claims that it offers “authentic Chinese food,” providing you with a “taste of Hong Kong.”

hong-kong-roast-07.jpghong-kong-roast-010.jpghong-kong-roast-038.jpghong-kong-roast-015.jpg

Owned by the gracious and equally unpretentious Mary Chan, Hong Kong Roast Food Express or HKR is the younger sibling of Mary’s already-successful printing business. For business purposes, Mary found herself travelling frequently back and forth from Hong Kong and China. Armed with a Hotel & Restaurant Management Degree from Dominican College and a love for food, Mary discovered the true recipe for asado, or barbecued pork as it is more commonly known overseas. A cook herself who trained under Chef Gene Gonzales as a college student, Mary decided to bring “the taste of Hong Kong” to Manila, with a strong focus on asado.

hong-kong-roast-019.jpg

The recipe for asado is apparently a trade secret, which explains why only the Chinese chefs who work for Manila’s fine dining Chinese restaurants are able to copy the true Hong Kong asado well. Nevertheless, Mary felt the need for a restaurant that emulated the true Hong Kong dining experience – excellent food, fast service, unfussy surroundings and affordable prices. Therefore, she and her chef trained with Hong Kong and Shenzhen chefs to perfect the recipe, which is now one of the best-selling dishes at HKR.hong-kong-roast-028.jpghong-kong-roast-021.jpg

Other notable dishes include the roast chicken, whose texture and flavor are reminiscent of Causeway Bay roast duck;

hong-kong-roast-027.jpg

the appetizing salted baked chicken; and the Black Chicken Sesame – which you will only find at HKR. The dish uses the silk chicken, a type of fowl whose skin is completely black. In China, dishes with silk chicken are usually consumed twice a day post-pregnancy to bring the mother back to health. In HKR, the dish is cooked with ginger to eliminate unhealthy gas and acid from the system.

hong-kong-roast-026.jpg

The taho and soy milk are manufactured completely in the restaurant. For an interesting salve to the sweet tooth, try the French Toast with sesame filling – a popular dish among gentlemen, Mary notes with surprise.

hong-kong-roast-033.jpg

Perhaps one reason why the food tastes so much like authentic Hong Kong cuisine is because a lot of the ingredients are imported. For instance, HKR’s milk tea is such an accurate representation of its Hong Kong cousin because only Black & White Evaporated Full Cream milk is used to create it – one of the two brands used by Hong Kong restaurants to craft the beverage. HKR delivers to the immediate vicinity and uses only environmentally-friendly packaging made out of corn pulp to house the food.

HKR is the only restaurant that claims to have authentic Hong Kong food but does not have a Chinese chef on the payroll. Whereas this may raise some eyebrows to the restaurant’s faithfulness to the original, Mary believes that her patrons visit her to sample the excellent and affordable food, and not to watch a Chinese chef cook. Furthermore, her own enculturation in Hong Kong and Shenzhen cuisine, coupled with an eye for detail and careful management of her restaurant, lend HKR all the authenticity it needs.

hong-kong-roast-030.jpg

This hidden gem is truly Hong Kong. Run by a Chinese lady with considerable experience in the culinary arts both here and abroad, serving dishes that are genuinely Causeway Bay café in taste and quality, HKR is a veritable little Hong Kong in the middle of Makati City.

Clarins Men Super Moisture Gel and Balm

By | What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

Men’s skin needs hydration too. Every day, men’s skin is subjected to aggression from pollution, air-conditioning and regular shaving that dehydrate skin. The result is irritated, uncomfortable skin that shows signs of premature aging.

Thanks to Clarins Research expertise in “multi-level” hydration, ClarinsMen Super Moisture Gel and Balm now go even further. Two new formulas combine the very latest “superstar” ingredient – calcium hyaluronate – and a selection of high-performance plant extracts. Never before has men’s skin been so hydrated and protected… without the slightest oily residue in sight!

clarins-men-super-moisture-gel-and-balm-01.jpg

Calcium hyaluronate, a high performance ingredient used for the first time in men’s skin care is found in ClarinsMen Super Moisture Gel and Balm. The hydrating effectiveness of hyaluronic acid exhibits the renewing power of calcium.

clarins-men-super-moisture-gel-and-balm-02.jpg

Obtained by combining hyaluronic acid, a major skin component, and the cell-renewing mineral calcium ion, this high-tech molecule ensures dual benefits such as strengthening hydration in all skin levels. Low molecular weight calcium hyaluronate absorbs easily to the heart of the epidermis and dermis and optimizes water levels. It also strengthens protection against dehydration. When taken to the deepest layers of the epidermis, calcium boosts keratinocyte renewal: skin is gradually strengthened and water loss is controlled.

ClarinsMen Super Moisture Gel and Balm is exclusively available at all Rustans stores: Ayala Center Makati, Shangri-la Plaza Mall, Alabang Town Center, Skin Spa, Ayala Center Cebu, Robinson’s Plaza and Gateway Mall.
