Starbucks Coffee Philippines Christmas Tradition Returns with Starbucks Shared PlanetTM Theme

Christmas at Starbucks will never be complete without the Limited Edition Starbucks Coffee Philippines Planner. Customers await this time of the year for the return of their favorite Starbucks Christmas products and to start collecting stickers to redeem a Starbucks planner. Now on its 9th year, and for the first time, this year’s planner will be available in five unique covers (Poplar, Bamboo, Cherry, Spruce, and Oak).

Environmental Stewardship – The inner planner pages are made from 70% recycled paper.

Starbucks Philippines flagship program for early childhood care and development in partnership with UNICEF.Each planner comes with a pouch, a bookmark and nine different coupons that can be redeemed at all Starbucks stores in the Philippines in 2012.

A customer can avail of a Starbucks Christmas traditions planner promo card starting November 3, 2011 and collect stickers from November 3, 2011 to January 8, 2012. One sticker is awarded for each Starbucks beverage purchase. A customer now has two options in collecting stickers to redeem one (1) Limited Edition Starbucks Coffee 2012 Planner.

 

Option 1: nine (9) Christmas beverages plus eight (8) core beverages except bottled drinks = 17 stickers

Option 2: 23 core beverages except bottled drinks = 23 stickers

The Reflex Zone

 Heart2Heart was so happy to be invited to try out the new Reflex Zone owned by a friend of ours, Alex and Jamie  Coyiuto.  Congratulations Alex and Jamie on your business venture!

First time for me to have a foot soak like this!  First it was a hot liquid

After 20 minutes, they pour this powder and you have to mix it with your feet and it becomes liquid again and then they wipe your feet in preparation for your reflexology treatment

And here is Edmar who is the manager and head therapist at The Reflex Zone.  They are trained to be able to identify problem areas as they are pressing on your foot.  He said that three times a week treatment will be good for those who want to improve their health concerns

All the therapists are male to have consistency in pressure to be able to reach the pressure points in the feet and apply the correct pressure needed.  Since I am not used to having foot reflexology, it was a bit painful for me which Edmar warned me before starting my treatment.  Each of the therapists have a certificate and were all trained in Malaysia with the Rwo Shur Method

Reflexology is a natural form of therapy that uses the application of pressure to specific reflex points on the feet, which correspond to all the different glands, organs, and systems of the body. Applying pressure to these points breaks up crystalline deposits of uric acid, calcium, and lactic acid on different areas of the feet, and clears blockages and toxins from the corresponding body parts. Unlike massage, which is mainly intended for relaxation and whereby benefits are limited to the areas of the body actually manipulated, reflexology works through the nervous system to heal all parts of the body. Its beneficial effects include pain and stress relief, improved blood circulation, restoration of overall balance, and prevention of many common diseases.

The internationally acclaimed Rwo Shur Health Method of Reflexology, which has been in existence for over 30 years now, is distinctive for its use of very firm pressure, thus taking its focus beyond relaxation to detoxification and revitalization. It was developed by Fr. Josef Eugster, a Swiss Catholic priest and a missionary in Taiwan.

 

Fr. Josef got into reflexology because of his own need to be healed. In 1977, at only 37 years old, he was suffering from a debilitating severe rheumatoid arthritis in his knees. After consulting with physicians, he was told that the disease was incurable, and a cross he had to bear perpetually.  Upon learning the physicians’ prognosis, a colleague begged to differ, and encouraged Fr. Josef to learn reflexology, which can easily rid of his problem. He also suggested that an imbalance in the internal organs, especially the adrenal glands and the kidneys, both of which could be addressed by reflexology done on the feet, were the root cause of his knee condition.

Initially, Fr. Josef didn’t understand how a method used on the feet could help his knees, but he nevertheless, began studying reflexology. When he first used reflexology on himself, he could barely stand the pain, but he diligently treated himself every day.  Within two weeks, to his amazement, the arthritis disappeared.

 

Becoming a self-taught Reflexologist, Father Josef first cured himself, and then began to share the knowledge with his friends and parishioners with great success. And since then, he has gradually developed his own variations on the known techniques judging their value solely by the results that were obtained. He has likewise promoted the healing benefits of Reflexology in Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, the US and Europe.

Fr. Josef’s reflexology technique has healed many people.  One of his very first clients was one of his parishioners, 73-year-old Mr. Chen, who suffered from severe back pain due to an accident. Mr. Chen visited seven physicians but received no relief, and he ended up using all his money.  Feeling that he had no more hope, he decided to tell his priest – Fr. Josef – that he was ready to die.  Fr. Josef offered to treat him and showed up at his home for the reflexology sessions.  The first three sessions proved to be painful for Mr. Chen and thus, he hid from the priest before the fourth treatment.   However, Mr. Chen’s neighbor revealed his whereabouts and Fr. Josef convinced him to undergo one more session.  That night, Fr. Josef received a joyful call from the man’s family informing him that his treatment had worked on Mr. Chen and asked him to come back the next day.  Within two weeks, Mr. Chen, who had been ready to die, had fully recovered. By working on very tough cases like this from the onset, Fr. Josef gradually developed his technique.

 

Deciding that the future of reflexology in Taiwan would be best served by placing his work into the hands of others,  the Rwo Shur Institute International was founded (Rwo Shur is Fr. Josef’s Chinese name) in 1982. Fr. Josef’s technique, known as the Rwo Shur Health Method, gained a worldwide following, renowned for the dedication, sincerity, and humility of its founder, which are likewise reflected in the skill and commitment of its practitioners.

 

All of The Reflex Zone’s therapists are male licensed Physical Therapists who have undergone extensive training in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the Rwo Shur Health Institute International. The Reflex Zone experience lasts for 80 minutes and starts with an invigorating Signature Peppermint Crystal Mud Foot Soak, which prepares the feet for the reflexology session. The treatment takes place in the serene, relaxing sanctuary of The Reflex Zone’s flagship branch in Makati. This therapy has proved to be helpful in treating a wide range of health conditions in various parts of the body, as well as easing health complaints such as headaches, sinus problems, insomnia, obesity, lack of concentration, and hormonal imbalances.

I was with my cousin Ana when we visited Lola Charing a few years back and I took photos of gowns that Ana remove form her closet.  Pardon my photos as they were taken as the gowns were being removed from boxes.  I am sure Lola looked beautiful in these gowns.  And they are all made by famous designers during her time, take note of the beadwork and the embroidery on the dresses.  Beautiful! I hope Ana was able to restore them and remove the stains

Assumption Highschool Batch 86 Velada

I was very happy to help usher for the Velada of Batch 86.  For many years I have been just hearing about Velada but never really knew what it was all about.  I never attended any velada yet till last Sunday and what a nice experience.  Thank you Malu for inviting us over to help out but more to watch and see your special day with your batch!

We arrived early and Malu ( Batch President ) was there to meet us.  She gave us a backstage tour 🙂  She is so cute!

Everyone getting ready for their show.  All of them are the stars of the evening.  I am trying to imagine the many long hours they put into making this great performance.  The rehearsals and of course the fun, the bonding and the reuniting of batchmates!  I would probably be nervous but they all seemed so excited to perform

I took a peek at the program! Wow! This is MAJOR! 🙂 I was only able to stay for half of the show and thanks to Carmella and Malu for all the videos and photos I am able to complete my feature

What I also liked about Velada day is seeing all the friends, family and Assumption nuns and teachers coming to watch!  It’s not only a reunion of the Batch but also seeing other Assumptionistas who are friends, moms or sisters and it’s a great feeling to know that many of us are all from Assumption sharing the same vision and values of Saint Marie Eugenie!  It’s so much fun!

It literally took countless rehearsals, planning sessions, trips to Divisoria, and “secret practices” to make our Velada as successful as it was.  But it was a fun and joyful ride throughout because of the generosity and perseverance of a core group of girls.

Leading our Dream Team is Monette Quiogue, the brains behind our Velada, whose talent and hard work shone with every strike of her keyboard and click of her mouse. Monette put into 3 words how we felt about our Assumption education: Power of Plaid! She also tirelessly prepared all collaterals, articles, compiled photos and write-ups from all the girls. Monette certainly holds the record for the one who slept the least and the one who endeared herself to all. Still ahead for her is the daunting task to publish our Souvenir Program by December which she has already started on with vigor and excitement. Tina Henson, our star performer, was one of the first to dive in deep into all Velada preparations. She made sure we had rehearsal rooms, chic and cheap costumes, and showed us HOW to dance!

Natalie Manalo-Dalupan kept us all organized and on-track with her high attention to detail. She also made sure that we started our day right by arranging a moving and solemn Holy Mass.

Angelica Cervantes-Dychiao had the most headaches as Over-all Chair of Velada Day. She patiently coordinated all details among the many sponsors and the school administration to ensure that everything went like clockwork. 

Being on top of everything became such a joy because of having my right hand, Carmella Gana, ready and eager to help each step of the way in record time. She made everything possible and fun – from choosing the perfect colors for our costumes, to putting on the charm to get much needed donations from family, friends, exes, future in-laws and even strangers. Caterers, photographers, photos were all given to me with just a bat of our (false) eyelashes.

It took a village to make our Velada a success. Each girl truly contributed in her own special and unique way. I would like to especially mention the following batchmates who, from Day 1, embraced the Velada preparations with great enthusiasm and verve! Gina Torres-Evangelista,

Nini Honorio-Lacson, Mia Paterno-Rodriguez, Lia Lesaca, Barbie Torres, Loudette Roman-Tanjuatco, Lynet Villa-real, Valerie Mayor-Sotto, Menchit Aldeguer-Fajardo, Michelle Henson-Tanjuatco, Becky Escalona-Pio de Roda and Pia Barbin-Sycip.

These girls rallied, charmed and cajoled their respective classmates to raise funds, participate and make the most of our 25th year Jubilee. Proof of this is the fact that we only had 40 girls during our first rehearsal in August but were over 90-strong on Velada Day!

Our girls came from near and far. Mabelle Soriano Lemen and Baby Garcia Rabat from Davao, Lally Baes Arceo and Rosanne Rojas Gonzaga from Bacolod, Maru Garcia Payr from Monaco, Ronna Puno Ayala from St. Louis, Missouri, Maribel dela Cruz Peiffer,

Nini Honorio Lacson from California, Pauline Grau Amoranto from Chicago, Pearl Jacob from Stockholm, Terette Andaya from Washington, D.C., Marixi Buhay Salud, Trina Boquiren Mangila, Anna Rose Carreon and Ria Sanchez Sta. Maria from Singapore, TG Gaviola Robertson from New York.

A big Thank You also goes out to the people whose hard work, creativity, and patience know no bounds: our Director, 4-time Palanca awardee Floy Quintos, our choreographers, Andrew Ferraris, TinTin Limjap, Cecil Martinez, Lisa Martinez, Ellezer Canlas, our Music Arranger Juan Miguel Salvador, Lights Designer Butch Cruz, Costume Designers Twinkle Zamora and Rajo Laurel for Laurel et Ross, Vocal Arranger Vicky Salvador, Production Manager Chevy Salvador, Stage Team Bobbit Macapagal, Joy Ani and Olga Natividad, Technical Director Paul Domine, and Music Spinner Janice Dee who made us all look great! 

Assumption High School Class of 1986 also wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to our 59 sponsors and 273 Advertisers.  Their generosity will truly bring joy and much needed assistance to the 3,000 students of the 8 Assumption Mission Schools all over the country.

Payless Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

 Payless recognizes the need to support Breast Cancer Awareness, and this month of October is no exception as they once again find a way to support the cause and help raise awareness among people about this important topic.

In support to the Cancer Resource and Wellness Community (CAREWELL), Payless will be selling limited-edition two-pair earring combos. Priced at P175 per set, the retailer will be donating P50 to CAREWELL for every set sold starting on the 6th of October, until supplies last.

This is Payless’ 2nd year of supporting this campaign and it comes as no surprise that this season’s items are as precious as the cause is significant. The item includes the pink stud earrings and the classic Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon, which comes in silver.
