I used to think that I am SUPERWOMAN or BATGIRL and that I am invincible and super powerful that I can do anything and nothing will happen to me! I forget that I am already midlife at 41 years old and that there are things that i used to do that I cannot probably do as well anymore at this age!
Sunday morning, I was in bed and feeling different and found myself breathing harder than usual. I got scared and immediately asked my husband to take me to the hospital.
I guess I was okay because I actually thought of using James’ iPhone to take photos! 🙂
So happy that the Emergency Room now in Makati Medical is renovated! I remember coming here a few times with other people in the past.
But for me, no matter how nice the ER is, I don’t know if it will ever be a happy place for me. For the first time I checked myself in the Emergency Room! It’s a big deal maybe even if I overreacted 🙂 So many thoughts came into my mind – was I ready to go? Am I prepared? What about my kids? How do poor people handle health issues when they have no money to pay for it? What about all the things I was supposed to do that I have not done?
Here is the patient doctor that took care of me and not to mention had to take care of my husband who had so many questions. The doctor told him to wait in the chair 🙂
I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux or heartburn. No one has ever told me before what not to eat!!!
I am thankful for a gentle warning and will take this as a reminder for me to start a healthy lifestyle. After all, Life Begins at 40!
My motto now is ” Don’t overdo it!” This goes with everything – eating, working, etc etc.
As my father in law, Dr. de Jesus, always says, ” I wish for you good health.” He always tells us that we should take care of our health and that he always prays for our good health
For me, any sign or any unusual condition should be attended to. I knew it was probably not serious but I wanted to be sure.
Invest in health insurance for you and your family so you don’t need to think twice whether to see a doctor or have yourself examined and treated!
Other learnings:
We all have our time in HIS TIME!
Learn to have more faith in God and trust that everything is in HIS hands! I should not be scared! But I should be PREPARED!
and
i love how you documented everything pa rin! 🙂
glad you’re ok rica.
I really admire your “thoroughness” Rica. And, am glad you are okay now. As you have said, Enjoy Life and all the things you have at the moment. And f I may add, Live each day as if it’s your last, coz you’ll never know the time when we will be called.:-)
mam rica thank you for sharing, now i should watch what i eat ..
Ms. Rica,
You are correct, no matter how nice the ER of any hospital is, it will never be a preferred destination in anybody’s lifetime :-). I admire how you were still able to go into details about the newly renovated Makati Med.
I am glad that you are now okey – I am prone to this acid reflux attacks. I watch out the number of cups of coffee that I drink, sodas are a no no. Spicy food if taken, should be in moderation, no tomato based sauces specially during the night. No over eating, chips in moderation specially the BBQ/Cheese flavours. Last but not the least. I try to eat dinner as early as 7:00 – in time for my 11:00 bed time.
Stay healthy Ms. Rica 🙂
Regards,
Len
Take good care of yourself and all the very best wishes
Thanks everyone!! As of now, I am okay and trying to be more careful with my lifestyle. Apparently acid reflux is a very very common thing nowadays. I found out that so many friends and family have experienced this. Aside from the food that we all eat, it’s our lifestyle that seems to be more stressful and active. We have to have a balanced life in everything we do
wishing you a stress-free, happy holidays! (*-*)
