Coming from the success of Metrowear Icon: Oliver Tolentino, Metro Society, once again, pays tribute to a Filipino talent and National Artist who has embodied Philippine fashion aesthetic with his intricate beadwork and hand-painted fabrics. In partnership with ABS-CBN, The Lifestyle Network and in cooperation with the Binibining Pilipinas charities, Metro Society is proud to present Jose “Pitoy” Moreno: A Tribute Gala.
Known worldwide as the Fashion Czar of Asia, Pitoy Moreno has been an inspiration to both much-admired and aspiring designers for over 50 years. He has dressed the most elegant women here and abroad yet still embracing, and staying true to, his Filipino roots. His muses from the early days who have become his close friends and most loyal clients include Toni Parsons, Stella Marquez-Araneta, Gloria Diaz, Tingting Cojuangco, Conchitina Bernardo, and Aurora Pijuan.
Skilled at the art of creating formal Filipinianas such as splendid ternos with vertical butterfly sleeves and cinched waists and 19th century-inspired Maria Clara’s with shoulders draped by pañuelos, it is said that he has taken French fashion greats Pierre Balmain and Pierre Cardin by surprise when he presented a high fashion collection at a show staged by the Philippine embassy in Paris.
Pitoy has staged 43 (and counting) shows in every major city from Paris, Moscow, Rome, Madrid, New York, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Tokyo, Cebu, and Davao. Even with over 50 years of experience, he still maintains his old-fashioned lifestyle as he continues to receive daily clients without any office staff and keeping only five full-time sewers at his atelier.
The biggest fashion event of the year, the Metro Society Jose “Pitoy” Moreno: A Tribute Galais in celebration of the genius, artistry and creativity of the acclaimed Filipino designer. The show, to be held on the 21st of November at the Isla Ballroom of EDSA Shangri-La Manila, will feature over 100 pieces that encapsulate his exquisite collection of Philippine costumes, extraordinary couture gowns, and beautifully crafted ternos.
For those interested in watching the Jose “Pitoy” Moreno: A Tribute Gala, tickets are available at P5, 000 each. Proceeds will be for the beneficiaries of the Lopez Group Foundation’s (LGFI) assisted community programs and projects. LGFI coordinates the Lopez Group’s corporate social responsibility initiatives focused on education, health and wellness, humanitarian assistance, livelihood, environment, and the promotion of Philippine arts and culture.

I am a cloud rat (Bu-ot), endemic to the forests of the Philippines. I am a nocturnal animal, I live high up on trees and I eat plants. I have small ears, long whiskers, long furry tail and long sharp claws. I am gentle, and my actions are deliberate. Because my movements are measured, I climb well to avoid predators. I survive with gentleness and serenity through extra skills such as this. (Virtue: Adaptable)
I’m a Philippine Cockatoo (Kalangay), one of the endangered species endemic to the small islands of the Philippine archipelago like Palawan, Tawi-tawi and Masbate. I have a showy chest and a curved bill. I eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects. I can mimic the human voice. We can also live for a long time, some of us even live for more than 50 years. Most people say I am charming and sweet! (Virtue: Charm)
I am the Philippine Eagle (Haring Ibon), one of the endangered species endemic to the forests of the Philippines and can be found in four major islands; eastern Luzon, Leyte, and Mindanao. When I choose a mate, I bond for life. Because of my patience and my sharp claws and teeth, I am an excellent hunter and because of that I am on top of the food chain. I fly high without hesitation because I can see from afar.
I am a Mouse Deer (Pilandok), one of the endangered species endemic to the South of Palawan, on Balabac Island. I am about 40 centimeters tall at the shoulder level and am a solitary, nocturnal animal. When I sense danger, I stomp my hind legs to warn my own kind. I can survive on my own and am active during the night. During the day, I just stay put in the forest. I use my wits and survive by being smart.
I am a Philippine Sea Turtle (pawikan), one of the endangered species endemic to the southwestern part of the Philippine archipelago. Unlike land turtles, I cannot retract my head and limbs under my streamlined shell. I accomplish things on my own but I can manage to eat with groups. I can breathe on land but usually I stay underwater. Most people see me as easygoing, patient, and wise because I live long, move slow, and appear wrinkled. I often symbolize longevity in many cultures. (Virtue: Stable)
I am a Blue-naped Parrot (Pikoy), endemic to Philppines. I have a strong beak, a broad head, a stout body and my feathers have bright colors. We are highly intelligent. In fact, we may choose to share and give a lot of love and attention when we want to. When you get to know me better, I am trustworthy and loyal to my owner.
I am a Tamaraw, one of the endangered species endemic to the island of Mindoro, Phillippines. I have a compact, heavyset, bovine body, four legs that end in cloven hooves and a small, horned head at the end of a short neck. I am known to be aggressive and fierce when necessary. Contrary to what people commonly believe, I am not a kind of Carabao. I maintain my energy for all those who rely on me.
Virtue : Strong
I’m a Tarsier (Mamag), one of the endangered species endemic to southeastern part of the Philippine archipelago like Bohol, Samar, and Leyte. I am the smallest species of primate in the world. I am primarily an insectivore, which means I eat insects. I’m usually active and vigilant at night, when I use my huge eyes to hunt for my food in the forest.
I’m a Warty Pig (Baboy Damo), one of endangered species endemic to two of the Visayan Islands in Central Philippines. I am the one of four species of wild pigs that are found only in the Philippines. I am called a warty pig because I have warts on my skin that protect me from danger. Unlike domesticated pigs, which have to be fed, I can live on my own and forage for my own food.
I’m a wise whale shark, an endangered specie endemic to the northeastern part of the Philippine archipelago. Some people know me as a butanding. I am the world’s largest fish as I can grow up to 20 meters long! I live for about 70 years, and my specie has been around for over 60 million years! Although I am called a shark, I am very gentle and playful, and I only eat small animals like plankton and krill. (Virtue: Wisdom)
I’m a bearcat (binturong), endemic to Palawan, Philippines. I can grow up to as much as 1.4 meters. I’ve got ears lined with white fur and I have long white whiskers reaching up to my head. I make chuckling sounds when I’m happy and I make high-pitched screams when I’m annoyed. I love to climb trees and swing from branch to branch using my claws. I use my tail tail to search for food. My joyful actions and sounds make people feel that I am friendly. (Virtue: Friendly)

Last May 8, James set up the Pacquiao fight for Dad in his living room! Apparently it was a good idea because Dad seemed to like it
We prepared nachos and corn on the cob 🙂 which Javier ate ( not dad haha!)
And we had Sunday family lunch while the fight was going on
Yesterday, James arranged it again and this time, Dad had more guests with him
Again it was Sunday lunch so before 12 noon everyone is still watching the other fights
And we were surprised that Gloria brought her daughter Isabelle together with Anne Curtis!! I was excited! 🙂 It’s a good thing we still had food to serve them. They watched the fight as well.
A little after they arrived, the fight started!
And this was all of us watching!!
Including household staff!!
And even if everyone thought Manny didn’t deserve to win, we still love him, WIN OR LOSE! If there is one thing that ALL Filipinos love, it’s Manny Pacquiao! He brings our family together to watch his fight 🙂 and he unites our country! WE LOVE YOU MANNY!
