Tod’s Salone del Mobile 2012

Tod’s celebrates the Salone del Mobile, renewing its collaboration with the world of art and design.

“Looking at Tod’s”, the project where world famous architects interpret the shop windows and the brand’s philosophy of excellence, continues with a new concept, exclusively developed for this edition of the Furniture Fair in Milan by Studio Nendo, winner of the Wallpaper Design Awards 2012.

With the new window concept for Tod’s Milan Boutique in Via della Spiga, renowned architect Oki Sato captures the simplicity of the purest design and the elegance of the materials used, creating the magic of a language that has no need of stylistic devices to charm and surprise.

For the architect Tod’s values, strongly linked to the tradition of craftsmanship and of Made in Italy, and the constant research on styles and materials, become a challenge and a philosophy to be shared. As Oki Sato states: “Tod’s is a brand that truly respects the traditional techniques of the skilled craftsman. At the same time, they are open to new challenges and different ways of thinking. This gave us the freedom to explore new ideas respecting the Tod’s philosophy, which was both exciting and relaxing at the same time”.

The result is a shop window that, throughout the materials such as the classic vacchetta leather and steel, both symbols of the brand and common to all the Tod’s boutiques worldwide, celebrates beauty in its simplest shapes with a strong effect that reveals and enhances the Tod’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, including Tod’s iconic D Bag in an array of fresh colors for the new season.

Diego Della Valle, President of the Tod’s Group, celebrated the event hosting an exclusive cocktail party at Tod’s Boutique in Milan.

Kape Chino at Casa Roces

Mart and Sam had a great idea to have dinner at Casa Roces by Malacañang Palace. Heart2Heart loves adventures and trying new places!

They have private dining rooms which were the rooms of the old house and converted to dining rooms. I forgot to ask if they have a different menu for this area

The Barber of Seville Comes to Manila

Imagine a bashful starlet saddled with a slimy agent who also happens to own the film studio she works at. Throw in a star struck (and lustful) nobleman and a hairdresser with a flair for intrigues and you have the spicy ingredients of The Barber of Seville – arguably Rossini’s most popular opera with its abundance of fun, and filled with catchy melodies and inventive orchestrations.

Described as everything from absurd and touching to witty, hilarious and irresistible, The Barber of Seville is destined to enthrall and entertain theatergoers when it is staged in Manila at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Friday, July 13^th Gala Night and Saturday, July 14^th, 2012, both shows at 8:00 pm.

Fittingly, this most acclaimed of Italian operas marks the triple celebration of the 65^th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Italy, the 60^th anniversary of Rustan’s (with its reputation for pioneering Italian merchandise in the Philippines) and the 50^th anniversary of the Philippine Italian Association which promotes cultural exchange between the Philippines and Italy. Rustan’s, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the official hotel sponsor The Peninsula Manila (which is always supportive of arts and culture) in cooperation with the Embassy of Italy are joining hands in making this operatic gala possible.

Bringing the varied characters to life on the CCP Main Theatre stage will be a distinguished Filipino and Italian cast comprised of acclaimed Filipino artistes premiere soprano Rachelle Gerodias, tenor par excellance Arthur Espiritu (the second Filipino to perform at La Scala in Milan) and US based baritone Andrew Fernando. The visiting Italian contingent is made up of renowned and multi-awarded baritones Mario Cassi and Marco Filippo Romano.

They will work under Italian Director Antonio Petris (who is also the Set & Costume Designer), with Ruggero Barbieri, former Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, as Guest Conductor.

The Manila production of The Barber of Seville will have as its main beneficiary the Philippine Italian Association Endowment Fund which supports not only cultural events but also the Sister Handmaids of Charity, the Servants of Charity and the Canossian Sons of Charity – three charitable institutions run by Italian Missionaries, devoted to the care of the sick, elderly, special children, abandoned and malnourished children.

An additional beneficiary will be the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra’s historic friendship tour of the United States in 2013.
