Sariwon Korean Barbecue

By | Foodie | 3 Comments

We were honored to have been able to try the new Korean restaurant at Bonifacio High Street Central, Sariwon.  We love Korean food especially Korean barbecue!!!!

Thank you to Diane and Donna Tan for hosting our dinner!  We were very happy to meet these two very young and very pretty ladies who are at the forefront of Sariwon.  They are also the owners of Jollibee, so this is not their first time in the food service business.  They tried Sariwon during their travels and wanted to bring it back to the Philippines

Our menu for the evening

sawriwon-012.jpgsawriwon-025.jpg

Donna and Diane recommended the Sangria and the Kiwi fruit shake so we followed them 🙂

Doenjang Gigae – a spicy stew

sawriwon-035.jpgsawriwon-018.jpg

Always love all these side dishes – I particularly liked the mashed squash with raisins and cucumber – Donna made sure we ate it – it looks like mashed potato, but it is squash

sawriwon-028.jpg

They told us that they use only the freshest cuts of premium USDA Choice beef

sawriwon-016.jpgsawriwon-015.jpg

We had the Galbi that evening and you could really tell that the beef was of good quality

sawriwon-029.jpg

And just like in Korea, the server cooks for you and cuts it and serves it to you

sawriwon-030.jpgsawriwon-031.jpgsawriwon-032.jpgsawriwon-017.jpg

Dak Galbi – there are options for the non beef eaters

Bibimbap

sawriwon-038.jpgsawriwon-039.jpg

We can never get enough of beef!!  We were happy to try the bulgogi

sawriwon-013.jpgsawriwon-014.jpg

They use ceramic charcoal

sawriwon-036.jpg

and changed the grill for the bulgogi

sawriwon-037.jpg

To accommodate the sauce

sawriwon-040.jpg

Thinly sliced bulgogi

sawriwon-041.jpg

Dipping sauce made with 12 vegetables and fruits

sawriwon-042.jpgsawriwon-043.jpgsawriwon-044.jpgsawriwon-045.jpg

Freshly made sweet potato noodles

sawriwon-046.jpgsawriwon-047.jpg

And the dessert which was really really refreshing Sikhye

sawriwon-026.jpgsawriwon-04.jpg

And we got to meet the owners who flew over to train the staff and make sure that the opening goes smoothly. Sariwon was started in 1938 by their grandmother, Mrs. Koo

Sung and Yoo Chang Rah

Maharlika Filipino Moderno New York City

By | Foodie, Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel | 4 Comments

We heard about this Filipino restaurant from Tito Stephen and Tita Reg and I made sure we stopped by to check it out!! Thanks to Tita Reg for taking us!

maharlika-nyc-01.jpg

As soon as you enter, there is a condiment tray on the left Maggi savor and Jufran banana catsup!! My two favorite pinky sauces 🙂  Please forgive my photos as it was quite dark so some photos are blurred

maharlika-nyc-03.jpgabout-maharlika-1.jpg

Love the interiors of the place!

maharlika-nyc-02.jpg

The owners were there and are friends of Tita Reg, Noel Cruz and Enzo Lim.  Other owners are Nicole Ponseca and Chef Miguel Trinidad

maharlika-nyc-04.jpg

And the sister of Enzo who according to Tita Reg is a model!  Very pretty and tall indeed!

maharlika-nyc-025.jpg

Love the t-shirts of the servers

maharlika-nyc-023.jpgmaharlika-nyc-022.jpg

A very small, nice and cozy place.  It’s so nice to have a place to go to that reminds you of home when you are far away

maharlika-nyc-024.jpg

And Tita Reg pointed out to us that it is so Pinoy to have a Last supper image in a Filipino dining table 🙂 and I remember my parents and my Lola having one
