San Agustin Cathedral Cagayan de Oro

We also visited the San Agustin Cathedral

We came here to see the beautiful stained glass

The First Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro was from New York and the stained glass was gifted to the cathedral from the Sacred Heart Sisters from New YorkThey are a century old and there are 7 panels around the church This cross travelled to different parts of the Philippines

You will see at the back of the cross the different places it visited and travelled to

At the back of the Cathedral is a nice view of the Cagayan de Oro River. You can see a building at the back in this photo – that was the hotel ( Prycegas hotel ) we stayed in before when we first went to Cagayan de Oro 🙂 San Agustin Cathedral Cagayan de Oro (14)

Cagayan de Oro River – Upstream is where they do rafting. Vehind is a Mall, Convention Center and hotel development by the Pelaez family which stopped due to typhoon Sendong but now being continued San Agustin Cathedral Cagayan de Oro (15)

I notice a lot of these type of signs in the provinces. They are just made of tarp sometimes and I feel they are very effective

The Bodyguard

Another loyal employee who is family to us – Commander Conrado Ramilo. He started as security guard in Rustan’s San Marcelino and transferred to Rustan’s Supermarket when it first opened. He worked for 32 years in the company’s security agency, Superstar Security Agency (SSAI) as Detachment commander then moved to Starbucks as Field Security Officer for 8 years! For a total of 40 yrs service. He had to retire at age 66 this January. He is now consultant for Salacnib Security agency which focuses on provinces and he’s still serving us during our visit to CDO Loyalty is so hard to find nowadays and the family is blessed to have many

He went with us all around so I took his photo also with the Divine Mercy 🙂Enjoy rin si Ramilo 🙂 Ostrich biting his hand 🙂 “Hindi Masakit!” 🙂

Travelling Medicine Bag

Last June I wrote about some travelling tips from Mom

For this trip, her theme was orange 🙂 I love my Mom! 🙂

And today, I am sharing another travel tip from Mom! This trip, after our visit to the Ostrich farm, Mom stepped on an anthill or some area with plenty red ants. And since she was in open toe shoes, she got bitten. Of course she was ready with all her medicines. When we got to the bus, she brought out this small bag

She had ointment to relieve the itch!!! AMAZING!!! How hard it would have been had she not had her medicine kit! She is the BEST! I always want her to be in all my trips!! haha!!

Inside the bag is this list which has all the contents of the bag and the expiration date. She knows already what each medicine is for. The staff in her house writes this and makes sure this is always complete.

Ostrich and Crocodile Farm

We love animals so we made sure we went to the Ostrich farm in Opol! For now, it is really a farm more than a tourist destination. I am hoping they can develop it more and make it a more fun and entertaining experience so more people will come and visit. Meantime, There is a minimal fee to enter

When you look at the ostrich they go near you and look at you 🙂

You can buy them and the price varies depending on the age 🙂
Lolo and Dad already ordered baby ones to add to their collection of pets 🙂

It is also a crocodile farm but there are only a few – maybe 4

You can stand on an ostrich egg and it won’t break!

There are other animals in the farm like goats

Peacocks

They sell Big Bird Ostrich meat here though you can buy this in Manila at Rustan’s Supermarket 🙂

You can buy ostrich leather wallets for P 1,100.00. These are being sold for 3 to 5 times the price in retail stores

Panagatan Opol Misamis Oriental

In Opol, after our visit to the Shrine of the Divine Mercy, there are some restaurants by the Macajalar Bay

We went to Panagatan

It was low tide at around 6pm so this is how it was

Fresh seafood aquariums as you enter

We regretted not having fresh lobsters

The Cagayan de Oro group!! Super enjoyed being with them

They have a very wide menu but we focused on the bilao specials

Bilao A – Combination of grilled squid, steamed shrimps, grilled tuna belly and kitong

Bilao C – Combination of grilled panga, kinilaw, mambas and ini haw na Bangus

The Rays of the Divine Mercy are made of stained glass and metal mirrors. But they are not just rays, but they are stairs that you can go up to pray in the Heart of the Divine mercy.
