1512 Le Pliage Cuir Small

Longchamp, the world-renowned French luxury leather goods and clothing house, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its iconic bag Le Pliage® this year. To commemorate this special event, Rustan’s brings to the Philippines the much-awaited “Le Pliage Cuir Personalized,” a customization service for Le Pliage® Cuir, the leather adaptation of the famous Le Pliage®. Le Pliage® Cuir was launched in 2012 to tremendous success because of its extremely strong, soft and supple leather which retains the ability to fold in exactly the same way as the nylon version.

Customers will be able to design their very own Le Pliage® Cuir by customizing the color of the body, strap, tabs, flap, handle and lining according to their preference and make it even more personal by adding their initials, which can either be perforated or embossed. This season, customers can choose from the following colors: mocha, red, candy, amethyst, camel, poppy, bilberry and black. For the lining, the available colors are citrine, fuchsia, vermilion, dune and night blue.

The available sizes for customization are the 1512 (small tote), 1515 (medium tote), 1630 (large tote), and the 1825 (pouch).

The Le Pliage Cuir® Personalized service will be available in Rustan’s Shangri-la until the end of November only. Rustan’s invites everyone to celebrate this wonderful 20-year milestone with Longchamp. Let’s get personal!

Novus Praeternatura

By | Arts and Culture | No Comments

The Philippine Art Scene is developing so rapidly that even the very young ones are already into it at an early age.  Last November 15, Bambina Santiago and Dani Osmeña of Slate Manila, recently launched their first exhibit and sale entitled Novus Praeternatura.

slate manila novus praeternaturaNovus Praeternatura About the exhibit

These two ladies are only twenty years old and already they are not only appreciating art but they are professionally taking this into a higher level and managing artists and organising exhibits.
Congratulations Slate Manila on a successful first exhibit and looking forward to more.  As long as we patronise the artists and their works, that will be the only thing that will dictate the value of Philippine Art.  It is so nice to see many more Filipinos, young ones at that, patronising and investing in art.

The proud and supportive parents of Dani and Bambina were there. And even with his busy schedule, Tito Serge Osmeña was just as much as a star as her daughter taking photos with everyone,  “When Dani first told me that she wanted to organise an art show, I just wished her luck.  I was not paying too much attention to it because I was so busy with my own work. I was just told to attend the show about a week before. I was so surprised by the turnout.  All the pieces were uniquely special.  I am so proud of Dani and Bambina’s success.  I look  forward to their future shows.”
Novus Praeternatura (4)
It was my first time to meet the daughter of Kitty Santiago Jacinto, Bamina, and she is just as pretty as the mom.  “It was Bambina and Dani’s idea to promote up and coming Filipino artists. Being able to witness the process of the exhibit coming together was really exciting and I am very proud of them. I was very happy to help out wherever I could. I was able to share entrepreneurial, marketing and PR advice.  However, the art world is really Bambina’s passion. Being an artist herself, she has had an ardent love for the arts since childhood.  She has an eye for detail and talent. I am thrilled that Bambina and Dani have found a way to mix business with what makes Bambina truly happy. The two are especially lucky to have so many talented mentors and loved ones who are rooting for them especially Dani’s Mom, Bettina, Bambina’s older sister, Thea, their Tita Malu, Tito Anton, and Tito Rajo.”

I arrived late already coming from another event and if you are late at these art shows, you will end up not getting anything because all the artworks are already sold.  That is how it is in the art scene nowadays.  You have to be quick.  True enough when I arrived, the piece I wanted was sold!  And together with me was Tita Bettina Osmeña who mentioned to me about the artist  “I discovered Jonathan Benitez in FB.  I love the lightheartedness of his works.  It gives good vibes !  I wanted to buy this piece but decided to give somebody a chance to own this piece.  I am glad one of my close friends ended up with this piece.  I will be seeing it in the wall of my friend. I have told that I have a very keen eye for art.  This piece proved to be one of the show favourites.”

Another artist I met that night was Sayid Cedicol.  He had three works in the exhibit and they were all sold out with many others wanting his works.  He is from Zamboanga and he uses ballpens to draw his artwork. I asked him if he uses any particular brand of ballpen for this artwork ( Invasive Jupiter Aurora 2014 ball pen on cardboard  26 X 38 inches ) and he said  “I use any brand of ball pen, whatever is available there.”

Epicurean Masters A Unique Gastronomic Experience with World Class Chefs

By | Foodie | No Comments

Epicurean Masters Official Poster

Singapore’s Boomerang Consultancy Pte. Ltd in collaboration with Sphere (an events arm of SIngapore Press Holdings, Inc) are bringing to Manila a unique gastronomic experience. Borrowing the same idea that has brought delight to foodies and the culinary world in Singapore for the past four years, Epicurean Masters presented by Banco de Oro (BDO) gathers world-class celebrity chefs on November 19, 24 and December 3, 2014.

Asia has been increasingly enjoying the limelight as a success story, seen as the major force leading the recovery of the global economy in the aftermath of the last financial crisis.  The time has come for Asia to showcase its many facets of talents to those intrigued by its success.

One keenly watched aspect is the growing depth of rich and diverse offerings in exceptional dining cuisines across Asia. The records bear this out as the number of award-wining Michelin star chefs in Asia have been steadily rising; from Tokyo, Osaka to Hong Kong and Macau. Indeed, Tokyo now has the largest number of Michelin rated restaurants in the world.

Against this vibrant backdrop lies the creation of “Asian Masters” – a celebration of who we are to the world! It is a gourmet and lifestyle event that takes pride in celebrating Asia – our talents, our produce, our heritage and our culture.

Targeted at anyone who enjoys dining and vibrant lifestyles, the event provides a unique, carefully crafted platform to showcase a myriad of gourmet activities which includes demonstrations, workshops, luncheons, gala dinners and tastings. Lifestyle activities that revolve around the performing & visual arts, fashion, wellness, clubbing etc. are included, always with a thread of gastronomy and dining weaved into its programme.

Positioned as a key regional annual event that takes place over an entire month, its reach will extend far beyond Singapore’s shores to visitors from Hong Kong, China to Japan and Malaysia and now in the Philippines.

Inaugurated in January 2011, Asian Masters 2013 culminates one month of gastronomic and lifestyle events in the month of November. Targeted at anyone who enjoys dining and vibrant lifestyles, the event provides a unique, carefully crafted platform to showcase a myriad of gourmet activities which includes demonstrations, workshops, luncheons and gala dinners.

Hosted at venues such as Hotels, Restaurants, Theatres, Galleries, and Boutiques, this event targets a multi-tier market that enjoys dining & keeping up with trends; from the man on the street to the elite and is intended to showcase distinctive Asian talents & products. Using Singapore as a platform, Asian Masters encompass highlights that will engage regional visitors and positioning Singapore as a vibrant destination of Asia.

This culinary extravaganza features two stellar luminaries on the19th of November by Chef Bobby Chinn and on the 24th of November by Chef Bobby Chinn ( Asia and London ) together with Chef Dan Segall (Zuma, Ku de Ta )  at Old Manila, The PeninsulaHotel. The 3rd  Dining event is going to be at Solaire’s Finestra.

Chef Bobby Chinn

Chef Bobby Chinn is a hugely popular culinary figure throughout Asia and in London. Both for his two highly-regarded restaurants in Vietnam and for the award-wininng TV series, World Café, which he has hosted on Discovery TLC for the past six years. Chef Bobby is one of the more colourful global chefs. His restaurants : Restaurant Bobby Chinn in Hanoi (since 2001) and Bobby Chinn Saigon (since 2011) have been compared to Rick’s Café of Casablanca. His third restaurant is The House of Ho in heart of Soho, London is showcasing a resolutely Vietnamese menu and some dishes with a “Bobby’s twist’.

Chef Dan Segall came on the radar of the culinary world because of his landmark innovations in restaurants like Zuma, Fat Cow, M1NT Shanghai, and KU DÉ TA Singapore. He is best-known for coming up with unique and very distinctive creations wherever he has worked.

Because of his culinary exile, Chef Dan Segall traveled to nearly 20 countries in five continents. This approach has allowed Segall to use all these influences as his playground to create a wonderfully inventive fusion menu for anyone who tries his food.

Chef Diego Chiarini on the other hand has been internationally recognized for his unique style of cuisine on numerous occasions. He has worked at Bice in Tokyo Four Seasons Hotel which has garnered the distinction of ten best Italian restaurants in the world.

His penchant for hand-selecting only the finest ingredients sourced directly from Italy has given prestigious establishments like the Royal Monceau Hotel in Paris, the Four Seasons Hotel in Milano, and the Hotel de Paris in Monaco even more sophistication and culinary appreciation from guests the world over.
