We made a side trip to Florida so we could take a look at a school.  We visited IMG Academy IMG Academy (2)

Ches Gibson patiently hosted our visit the whole day!  Thank you Ches!Ches Gibson IMG Academy

The map of the 450 acre campus which has a football field, a golf course, around 50 tennis courts, several soccer fields, baseball fields, dorms and a hotel for visiting guests.  It’s a beautiful campus with good weather all year long.  Perfect for the athletes who need to trainIMG Academy (15)

Its not only Athletics but they have academics as well.  I like this chart which shows the goals for their studentsIMG Academy (4)

We were here to see the Bollettieri Tennis school.  This was originally just a tennis school and later on added other sports.  Many of the world champions came from here.  Andre Agassi, Bjorn Borg, Jim Courier, Kei Nishikori, Pete Sampras, and many more

Parent’s Weekend

By | Education | No Comments

For the three years that Jaime has been in boarding school, this is our first time to attend Parent’s Weekend.  It’s Autumn and its beautiful in the campusParent's Weekend (5)

Parent's Weekend (6)

Parent's Weekend (7)

Mr. Rodriguez 🙂  The Adviser of Jaime and at the same time his Spanish teacher.  We were happy to see him again and  get to talk to him Parent's Weekend (3)

Beautiful architecture – Chapel of St. Peter and St. Paul at St. Paul’s School Concord, New Hampshire In the spring of 1856. . .
a young schoolteacher arrived in a carriage at a large property of ponds and woods near Concord, New Hampshire, where a wealthy Boston physician had provided land to create a new school. St. Paul’s began that same day, as three boys received their first assignments, one of which was to go fishing. A love of the School’s natural habitat has remained constant since those early days.
Graduates of St. Paul’s School have included three candidates for U.S. president, six senators or congressmen, 13 U.S. ambassadors, and 10 leaders of various U.S. administrations; a governor of New Hampshire; a Nobel Prize winner, a Medal of Honor recipient, three Pulitzer Prize winners; a mayor of New York City; a president of the World Bank; numerous editors of books, newspapers, and magazines; CEOs of numerous Fortune 500 companies; professional hockey players; and multiple clergy, including the former presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church
Parent's Weekend (4)

Everyday all the students gather at the Chapel of St. Peter and St. Paul ( not Catholic) for morning chapel as part of their objective to have a holistic education. They have reflection, talks from speakers of the school, hymns and other activities

We simulated all the classes of Jaime and went to all his classrooms and met his teachers.  I like these notes from Photography classParent's Weekend (8)

At Math class!  For some reason, while waiting to enter the class, I particularly looked at the scribblings on the glass and after looking closely, I saw something which caught my attention!!!  A HEART!Parent's Weekend (12)

I looked closer and realized it was me!!!  A drawing by Jaime, my son!  Just seeing this made our trip all worth it.  Parent's Weekend (13)

Happy to see Chananya and Prasong in the same Math Class where our sons are classmates 🙂Parent's Weekend (14)

In Math class, they do not put their real names on the test papers just so there are no biases and preconceived notions when the teacher checks the papers.  Interesting! 🙂 Jaime just put his name already after and this was given to us to viewParent's Weekend (15)

Another lunch at school.  The tables were assigned by house/dorm.  That way the parents get to meet the other parents of the dorm mates 🙂  Good idea 🙂  Parent's Weekend (16)

SPS Cafeteria Parent’s Weekend

By | Foodie | No Comments

I love eating in the cafeteria of the school!  Though I love this initiative, it is a bit difficult without the trays to get food since I have to go back plenty times to get everything I want to try 🙂  But it’s a good thing because with the trays we really tend to fill it up with so many things that we end up not eating everything

Siam Orchid Thai Bistro

By | Foodie | No Comments

It’s Parent’s Weekend at SPS. Parents from all over the USA and the world come over to join this 2 day activity in school. It’s a time to meet the teachers, discuss your child, attend talks, simulate your kids classes and of course a chance to visit your child who is on full board. We have only joined this time and missed the past 2 years. But others have joined all! Pedro &Gina ( fr Manila) Rob & Deb (fr Boston) Marissa (fr HK) and Prasong & Chananya ( fr Bangkok). So happy to be with them. They are all amazing going all around visiting not only one child but two or three in different schools. We are happy that our children are friends and are in good company, Blessed.   They have become our friends too and we are happy that Chananya and Prasong organized a dinner to get everyone together!
