After lunch with Margie, we headed to our next destination – Segovia’s. Visited Segovia’s Cakes and Recipes which is the secret of the Xavier and ICA moms! They not only serve the yummy “Edu Manzano Mamon” but also yummy ensaymada, Cheese roll and other savory products like sandwiches, pasta, pork and recently bread items. She caters and can prepare party platters as well. Located by the tutor street in Little Baguio
I am so glad I got to meet the lady behind all the yummy things here!!! Thank you to CJ Jesena who is her cousin. I made sure that i met her when Margie and I went to visit so I could talk to her! The lady behind the “Edu Manzano Mamon” I featured recently.
Previous entry: Special Delivery Segovia Mamon March 7, 2015
The place is called Segovia’s Cakes & Recipes and the owner is Carmen Segovia.
Check out the goodies behind her – ensaymada, Mamon and cheese roll. She was already cooking and baking since she was Grade 3! She started her business after graduating in 1983. She is very hands on that even to the last step of wrapping the Mamon she is the one doing it. That is proof that her food is made with LOVE. Last year she found out she had cancer and she is presently undergoing radiation treatment. ????Yet when I met her yesterday she looks and sounds very happy, she’s energetic and always wanting to bake and cook. I’m so blessed to have met her. For Heart2Heart it’s always important to know the people behind a product or business. And when you know them and how much passion and LOVE they put into it, it just makes a world of difference. And you will see it in every dish that Carmen serves in her place – look for her when you visit Segovia’s.
Thats it and this table which I love. It has comics on the table which is from Carmen’s collection
The Special Segovia Mamon (“Edu Manzano Mamon) which Carmen Segovia lovingly makes herself. Everyone is telling her to teach someone in case something happens but she refused because she says it might not be the same! When she cannot bake it for some reason there will be no supply of Mamon. She used to have a sign outside the gate for the Mamon but she had to remove it because customers would get mad when they would run out! I tried it yesterday fresh and not microwaved and it was so so good!
The menu board 🙂 Though they have some specials everyday depending on what Carmen is in the mood to cook 🙂
Apparently according to my friend Jill her connection is Raquel who is the bestfriend of Carmen Segovia and she sits there behind the counter 🙂 So that’s a tip aside from name dropping Edu Manzano 🙂
Thank you Jill and Margie for the box of Mamon which they ordered and gave me!! I LOVE it even more because I met the wonderful woman who makes it. My tip: It’s always best to order it in advance to be sure and the ensaymada and cheese rolls are worth ordering too.
They sell Manuka Honey too which is from a friend asking to help her sell 🙂
I went inside the kitchen and here it is very clean!
Codigo for the price of Mamon and Ensaymada 🙂Carmen made us try her dinuguan which is a bestseller also in her place! She has to make a big batch everyday! She told me she uses the best and cleanest ingredients here so be assured of the quality of this dish
OMG! This is the best Chicken salad sandwich I have ever tasted in my entire life! The bread is so thick but it’s fluffy and so it’s not that filling and it’s so yummy!!!! Carmen please sell the bread on its own also for sure it will sell!!! It has slices of apple in it and cheese.
CJ told me that Chef Reggie Aspiras wrote about this in 2011 and it has been a bestseller ever since. Carmen keeps this article posted on her wall behind the counter 🙂
If you have not tried it yet it’s worth trekking to Little Baguio to have it freshly made! Don’t go during school dismissal or drop off because it can get traffic in the area. School will be out soon so best time is summer time. You can also order it as a party tray together with her other sandwiches!! She says the hot and spicy tuna sandwich is also good! Definitely made with LOVE
So hard to say goodbye when we have so much to talk about 🙂 Till the next time
I <3 Segovia's!
Rica, I think your 1st photo up there was taken from outside our gate 😛 hehehe
