Since we were only in St Petersburg for 2 days, we chose 2 tours per day. The first day was the hermitage and the next day was the Highlights of St. Petersburg. It’s a good thing i went to St. Petersburg already or else I would feel really “bitin” not being able to go inside the different places of interest. We took the bus to go around the city to see the major sights Coffee break 🙂 Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood which was built on top of the blood of Alexander II where he was assassinated. It has a mosaic facade and the only church which uses enamel used for jewelry on its towers. Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. constructed between 1801 and 1811 by the architect Andrei Voronikhin, was built to an enormous scale and boasts an impressive stone colonnade, encircling a small garden and central fountain. The cathedral was inspired by the Basilica of St. Peter’s in Rome and was intended to be the country’s main Orthodox Church. After the war of 1812 (during which Napoleon was defeated) the church became a monument to Russian victory. Captured enemy banners were put in the cathedral and the famous Russian Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov, who won the most important campaign of 1812, was buried inside the church.
