  • My mom and I watched the premiere of Chito Rono’s Emir last night. It’s a good movie that pays tribute to our hard-working OFWs abroad.

Just like the Sex & The City 2 movie, the desert scenes were shot in Morocco…but I thought they showed much better scenery from around the country than just the marketplace, Amanjena and a couple of sand dunes! The movie also featured Mountain Province, most notably the rice terraces and Paoay church. Now I’ve got an additional ‘must-see’ place to visit here in the Philippines. Hahaha!

Just a word of warning to the non-Tagalog speakers, although the story is relatively simple (and the 2 Brits sitting beside me claimed they were able to follow it!), it’s really better if you have some grasp of the language. There’s not much Taglish or even English dialog in the movie and there are song lyrics which you may not appreciate the significance of if you don’t know what they mean. There’s one song in particular that the foreigners beside me probably didn’t get, when the characters were singing about how life got better for their families back home during the 12 Christmases that they spent working abroad

Hope you guys will be able to watch it…it’s pretty good and will be released nationwide June 9. I’ve attached some links below that give you a gist of the story.
