On August 12th at the CCP, an explosion of culture, music, politics, and history will once again be witnessed. Set in the Spanish colonial era, Encantada dances the story of an Indio rebel, Estranjero, escaping pursuit from the guardia civil. The story centers on this man’s encounter with a mountain spirit, the Encantada. Music is by Joey Ayala, and choreography is by Agnes Locsin.

Joey Ayala is a Philippine institution, best known for promoting Filipino ethnic instruments and combining these with more modern instruments, such as electric guitars and drums.

The other half of this brilliant partnership is the pioneer of the neo-ethnic dance style (and Ayala’s friend) Agnes Locsin.

Other featured artists in Encantada are Bayang Barrios, Onie Badiang, Cynthia Alexander, Cutie Paduano and Connie Lawigan-Chua.
