Sei

By | Beauty | 3 Comments

Chiyo explained to us that Sei is a japanese word that means silence, justice, right, holy and sincere.   And truly when we were there, it was true to it words – it was very peaceful and relaxing.  392661609503_0_bg.jpg 992661609503_0_bg.jpg

Sei just recently opened this March and is owned by Felicia who looks just as beautiful and young as she was when we were still working together at Rustan’s around fifteen years ago. Congratulations and more power to you Felicia!

Felicia has two Japanese consultants, Chiyo and Ryoko, who are the talents behind the salon.  We met Chiyo through a friend and we really liked the way she cut our hair.   There is really something different with the japanese way of doing things and we are fortunate to have talented japanese all the way here in Manila. So do try them.    792661609503_0_bg.jpg      422349109503_0_bg.jpg 536349109503_0_alb.jpg   128523409503_0_bg.jpg

IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK!

Walking Tour of Historic Intramuros

Almost four years running now, its the most popular tour in the selection and a definite must for beginners in Philippine History. Take a leisurely afternoon walk around a selection of Intramuros’ most stunning structures and take in a humorous analysis of Philippine art, culture, and society from Pre-Hispanic Manila until the present. Ironically irreverent yet informative.

Itinerary:

Fort Santiago (Deluxe Tour Only)

San Agustin Church and Museum

Father Blancos Garden

Casa Manila

Heart2Heart admires people that promote our very own country!  Heart2Heart loves Carlos Celdran for contributing to the betterment of our society…. as he takes thousands of people all around Manila telling its history.  The great thing about it is that not only do foreigners enjoy it, but because of the popularity of his tours, even Filipinos themselves are taking the tours.   I don’t think we would ever have gone to these places if not for Carlos.  He makes the tours so interesting that everyone enjoys listening.

He started the tour by telling us to sing the Philippine National Anthem, “Lupang Hinirang.”  I thought he was joking, but we really did sing the whole anthem! I am so glad the kids were with us,  Everyone learned so much.  We were very impressed with San Agustin church.  It was a first time for most of us and we would just hear about it through our friend, Father Galende, who runs the church.  Beautiful!!! It was like we were in Europe!  The museum is very well done and well maintained.  Great work Father!  437107038503_0_bg.jpg

What a beautiful church!!  No one wonder there is a wedding every hour on the hour!  927107038503_0_bg.jpg 837107038503_0_bg.jpg 647107038503_0_bg.jpg 157107038503_0_bg.jpg

Our next stop was right across the street from the church…… A beautiful old house which you hardly see anymore in Manila.

I wish there were many more people like Carlos…And the last thing he said to end the tour which was so meaningful and true was “If you want to change the look of Manila, you have to change the way you look at Manila!”

We ate in Ilustrado last January as we were preparing for our tour with Carlos Celdran.  Father Galende of San Agustin Church says it is still the BEST restaurant in the area.   I would also recommend the place of my friend, Suzette Montinola, La Cocina de Tia Moning.  406189578503_0_bg.jpg 606189578503_0_bg.jpg  806189578503_0_bg.jpg316189578503_0_bg.jpg 516189578503_0_alb.jpg 716189578503_0_bg.jpg 916189578503_0_bg.jpg426189578503_0_bg.jpg 626189578503_0_bg.jpg  They had a cafe downstairs which had a different menu, so they let us order from both menus.236189578503_0_bg.jpg  246189578503_0_bg.jpg 446189578503_0_bg.jpg website:  http://www.ilustradorestaurant.com/

Beacon Grade 6 visits Forest Club!

By | For kids, Nature, Summer | 4 Comments

I am always on the lookout for great places for the kids to go and I recently heard about Forest Club and found out it was owned by a friend, Robbi Mercado. And just a few weeks ago, Jaime went there with his class…..and HAD A GREAT TIME!! Since our kids grew up in the city, it is always good for them to rough it out and experience nature…Forest Club seems to be the PLACE TO BE. I hope to visit it one day. Thanks Robbi for taking photos for me, next time I want to do it myself… 🙂

The Forest Club (http://www.theforestclub.com) is a nature sanctuary and eco-friendly training institution committed to the healing and renewal of Mother Earth. For schools and student groups, the Forest Club offers the Eco Adventure Program, a set of interactive outdoor modules designed to help mold participants into responsible stewards of Mother Earth. Participants are not only assured of having fun but also end up learning something new about the environment and their role in protecting it.

The Forest Club provides an accessible and ideal environment not only for school field trips but also for corporate team building activities, seminars and conferences, spiritual retreats and family vacations. Forest Club prides itself in having a very relaxed and natural environment.

BEACON SCHOOL SCIENCE FIELD TRIP

beacon6_01.jpg

by Robbi Mercado

Taken from: http://theforestclub.com/main/beacon_grade6

Despite the intermittent showers and the wet surroundings, 37 Grade 6 students fromBeacon International School visited Forest Club last 21 February 2008 for a whole day of fun-filled learning activities.

The field trip was organized by Teacher Trixie who brought her students to Forest Club to help them learn more about their current science studies on seed plants.

The first activity was a short but lively discussion over langka and banana turon, kamote-que and fresh buko juice on the rich bio-diversity of the Philippines, the current state of deforestation and the urgent need to plant trees in order to help protect the country’s dying flora and fauna.

The Forest Club staff was pleasantly surprised not only with the kids’ grasp of current environment issues but more so by their animated commitment to doing their part in saving the earth.

Then came the fun part: the Eco Adventure activities.

The kids enthusiastically participated in games meant not only to be fun but also designed to develop more appreciation for Mother Earth.

After lunch the students were toured around Forest Club. They were shown the herbal plant gardens, the vermicompost facilities and were also made to plant hardwood trees seedlings. Forest Club will nurture the narra seedlings for the Grade 6 students until these are big enough to be transferred to the Beacon International School campus.
