TTT-Top Three Tapas

By | Finds, Yummy! | One Comment

I am in constant search for the best tapas in our country.  So far, these are the TOP 3 for me.  They are all the sweet type ( filipino style ).
1.)  Tapas de Gracia (cell# 0917-805-6207) – I discovered this in Salcedo market. She has a sweet and a salty version, I tried both but I prefer the sweet one.  It is P 180.00 for 1/2 kilo.

2.)  Sukiyaki tapa of Blue Kitchen.  This was introduced to me by my Mom and it is literally sukiyaki beef made into tapa. Delicious!  P 285.00 for 1/2 kilo.

3.)  Shopwise Beef Tapa.  James kept repeating how tender the beef was and that it was good.  He is very picky and when he says he likes something, then I am happy I know what to feed him. And guess what, it is only P 43.75 for a 1/4 kilo pack.

If you have any other sources of yummy tapa, i hope you will share them with me.

Birang is looking for a home for her cockatiels.  One of her past-times is to breed them and handfeed the chicks. Hand-fed cockatiels are tame, can be handled by children easily, and will spend the whole day perched on the owner’s shoulder.

She has two young birds that  are ready to be weaned. Just P3,000. (Not enough to recoup the time she spent handfeeding them every 4 hours, but it is a labor of love. She just wants them to go to a good home.)

My Best Buys at Shopwise

By | What's new at Shopwise? | No Comments

I am a loyal Rustan’s supermarket shopper but I will definitely go to Shopwise just to buy the new items i discovered:

804774773503_0_alb.jpgShopwise Belly bacon!! unhealthy but everything I look for in bacon – fat, fat and more fat.  It is 250 grms. for P 84.00.  The best bacon for me in the Philippines is Hormel at P 110.25 for 220 grams.  I did a taste test and I would not mind substituting the belly bacon.  But Oscar Mayer for me is still the best bacon in the world and it is sometimes available in Rustan’s though I know that sometimes someone makes pakyaw the stocks even if it costs 3 to 4 times local brands. So i only buy it when we go to the States ……besides bacon is bad for your health!

Another discovery is the red lady papaya by Betagro.  I am not biased because I know my friend, Mayet Asis Batungbacal, supplies it. I asked the sales staff there to give me the sweetest papaya they had and this is what she gave me. When i got home I saw the brand and recognized it.   It is really so good and different from the others we have tasted.  James actually reminds me to buy some more and specifically refers to this one.  I am glad even fruits are BRANDED.

La Cocina de Tia Moning

By | Foodie | 3 Comments
FINALLY!!! I have been wanting to experience Suzette Legarda Montinola’s place. We are 7 years late in coming to La Cocina de Tia Moning since it opened in 2000. It was a very nice and intimate experience. The food was very good and we were all stuffed since we had the tasting menu. Suzette recommended it as it had their most popular dishes. I started taking photos of the food and then totally forgot to take the other dishes ( the famous lengua in white wine ) since I was too busy eating 🙂 I was most especially happy to see my friend ( who I never see ) from Ateneo college who is by the way still SINGLE!!! 🙂 For more information and to see more photos, visit their website: http://www.lacocinadetitamoning.com

Shopwise Sucat

By | Events and Launches, What's new at Shopwise? | No Comments

Shopwise opened it’s 7th branch today at Sucat, Paranaque. This for me is one of the best Shopwise stores I have been to and I particularly like the facade of the building as it reminds me of the first Rustan’s department store in Makati. I did some shopping and all the store staff were friendly and gave excellent service. Some of my best buys were Buy 1 Take 1 China Ya pears ( 6’s X 2 ) for only P 59.95 and China Fuji apples ( 6’s X 2 ) for only P 54.00. I wish I had more time as it was getting late, so I guess I will just have to go back for more. Congratulations to my cousins Donnie and Crickette for another successful venture. MORE POWER!

Sango and Coop

For the past 2 Saturdays we have been going back to Sango because we discovered the Master burger. It is so good. I like the chili sauce like/spaghetti sauce that they put and the chopped onions. They have it also as a Master Cheeseburger then I added bacon! Deadly but yummy! I also liked the ice cream which is a sorbet like ice cream- not as heavy as the creamy ice cream but light and refreshing. Next time I will try the version that comes with cornflakes and blueberry sauce. And COOP is now EVERYTHING P 68.00 and not P 75.00 anymore.

Do you get that feeling when you arrive from a trip and you have that craving to look for similar items that you just had in that country? Well, we just arrived from Japan and I had that craving so I went to check out these 2 places which i heard about from friends and family.  We were frustrated that Mos Burger in Japan had only 2 kinds of rice burgers and we did not like any of the choices.  Here in Manila, there is Mc Donald’s and there is Sango.  And  of course who do I bump into, my brother in law Mike, who told us about the place.  It’s one of his favorites.

Sango also had only 2 kinds of rice burgers but I asked them if i could make my own and they said yes for an additional P 40.00.  So I guess you can order any burger that they have and change it to a rice burger or make your own concoction.  So i ordered a chicken rice burger and french fries. Delicious.  Right beside it is a small grocery store called Coop where they have all kinds of Japanese products.  Everything in the store is P 75.00.  Amazing selection.  They even have frozen products like ice cream flown in 2 times a week from Japan. They have an amazing selection of this boxed curry item which is around P 140+ in supermarkets and it costs only P 75.00 in this store. They only accept cash though.
