About Paul & Joe
Paul & Joe was founded by Paris-born designer, Sophie Mechaly, who challenged the codes and conventions to break through fashion in 1995. While other designers were focused on black & white, minimalism, and grunge, she went against the grain with her signature style: young, fun, vibrant, colorful, reviving a black & white wardrobe, and revisiting the spirit of vintage. Paul & Joe continues to be an acknowledged brand throughout the world with the vision of “fulfilling desires” across their multiple fashion lines.
At Baybay beach across @altacosta_bh we saw fishermen with nets. In around 30 mins they had buckets and buckets of dilis???? Wow???? Pia said that this happens every evening and this is the livelihood of these families. We saw some wives and children watching their husband/father catching fish near the shore #h2hcapiz
Once in a while they find a squid or a big fish
Cabe bought some dills and he had them cook it with vinegar and ginger. We tried it and it was good 🙂
Cabe and Pia Morente of Alta Costa Beach Hotel @altacosta_bh in BayBay beach. Another cousin of Quentin @docqviterbo and a cousin of Marga @margakwok 🙂
They have a beautiful 7 room resort facing Mantalinga island or Good luck island
Pia told me that fishermen go to Good luck island to bless their boats.
Alta Costa resort was owned by their parents but when Yolanda hit, the place was affected and so they just gave the place to them. Cabe and Pia rebuilt it and opened one year ago. It’s the only resort in Baybay beach and its beautiful #altacosta #h2hcapiz #h2hpeople
How special what Cabe and Pia prepared for dinner at @altacosta_bh ? Bangkaya – the original chicken inasal. The father of all the manukans. One of the cooks in the compound learned the recipe and you can only get it in their house and nowhere else anymore#h2hcapiz #h2hchicken
I do not know if this is a Capiz thing, but I love their version of fresh fruit salad. Hya served something like this for us as a drink and it was so good.

One of my most memorable moments in Capiz is meeting this wonderful lady- Hya ( Hyacinth) Ong Viterbo. She is the cousin in law of Quentin @docqviterbo Aside from handling the Finances of the family business that owns a lot of land in Capiz, she runs restaurants and their hotel, she has 7 kids and the most amazing of all she has a Healing Ministry. When she was 17 she had kidney disease that could not be cured here so the family resorted to prayers and she was healed. For 6 months they prayed over her and til this day they continue to pray everyday as a family.
She told me that prayers should not stop after you are healed. She also revealed to me that there are 5 reminders for healing. Praying is not as easy as just praying
Hya also built a gigantic Miraculous Medal and recently a Sacred Heart of Jesus where people go to pray and go for healing. She is so entrepreneurial, so hardworking, a good mother and mostly a good disciple of God. Definitely a role model for Heart2Heart If you are in Capiz make sure to visit her shrines. #h2hpeople #h2hcapiz #h2hreligious

INSPIRATION IS EVERYWHERE
Rafe New York Spring/Summer 2018
I pull references from memory bank and start my research. Inspiration always comes from a variety of sources. Spring Summer ‘18 was a mélange of images from Slim Aaron’s book; “A Place in the Sun”, Yves Saint Laurent’s muse Loulou de la Falaise, a Fauvist painting by Andre Derain titled “Madame Matisse au Kimono”, Victor Vasarely’s Geometric Art and a recent trip to Holbox in Mexico to see the flamingos in their natural habitat.
When I was planning the photo shoot I kept looking at photos of Edie Sedgwick. I was looking for a model who could emulate her and I thought that Sophie Sumner would be perfect. We met last year when we were both in Manila and we stayed in touch in New York. She immediately agreed to do the shoot with me and I was pleased to find out that she was as obsessed with Edie as I was.
The motifs this season were all about the tropics— from flowers to birds. I’ve always loved tropical birds. I used to have a green parrot growing up and he was such a smart and funny creature with tons of personality. I chose a flamingo, a cockatoo and a macaw because visually they immediately transport you to a tropical paradise.
Designing Spring Summer is second nature for me due to my upbringing in the tropics. I love working with straw, shell and snakeskin; using them in ways that show off their inherent quality. The Rosie clutches are all hand-embroidered and molded into shape one at a time. Since each clutch is embroidered individually that means that you are guaranteed that not one of them will be exactly alike. That variation is something I appreciate in anything that is handmade.
My minaudieres are all painstakingly hand-crafted and depending on the intricacy of the design can take four to five days to complete each one. There’s a video on my site (www.rafe.com) that shows you the process. You should see it to fully appreciate the amount of labor that goes into each piece.
Rafe is exclusively available at Rustan’s Makati, Shangri-La and Cebu.
We went up 63 steps to see the biggest Catholic church bell in Asia. It is presently being restored but good thing the construction workers are on vacation we were able to sneak up. It was built in Dec 21,1878 with 70 sacks of silver and bronze coins contributed by the people of Panay. It is 10.4 tons.

It is found in Sta. Monica Parish Church in Panay built in 1774. Make sure you get a tour by Randy who is the singer, tourguide and photographer haha!! He is the best #h2hcapiz

Right across the church is a coffee shop with a cute name 🙂
