CONTEMPORARY ABSTRACTS TAKE CENTERSTAGE

Rustan’s For The Arts launches first exhibit in 2020

With the continuing success of the Rustan’s for the Arts series, which has highlighted the collections of world-class Filipino artists Ben Cabrera, Al Perez, Paulina Luz Sotto, Fernando Amorsolo, Arturo Luz, and Anita Magsaysay Ho, the spotlight on its first exhibit of the year is on the contemporary works of abstract artist Gig de Pio.

Alex Tan, Gig de Pio, and Al Perez Tina Ferreros, Gig de Pio, Celia Molano, and Roni Lo Cid Reyes and Heber Bartolome Gig de Pio, Rustan's Chairman and CEO Nedy Tantoco, and Rustan_s VP for Merchandising Hom e Division Marilen Tantoco Gus Albor and Dante Silverio Junyee, Rustan_s VP for Merchand ising Home Division Marilen Tantoco, Gig de Pio, Gus Albor, Richi e Macapinlac, and Ross Capili Mario Menez, Louie Locsin, Lior Liechtenstein, Celia Molano, Lyn Gamboa, and Jose Molano, Jr.

Rustan’s has organized a recently-held affair to launch ‘Flourishing,’ a celebration of creativity featuring De Pio’s latest works, where several pieces were created specifically for the Rustan’s For The Arts. In attendance to the gathering were Cid Reyes, Gus Albor, Junyee, Al Perez, Dante Silverio, Heber Bartolome, Louie Locsin, Lior Liechtenstein, Lyn Gamboa, Celia Molano, Malee Bigornia, Richie Macapinlac, and Ross Capili, to name a few.

The collection is a movable visual feast, which can be viewed at Rustan’s Makati until March 31, 2020, and will move to Rustan’s Shangri-La in April. The paintings reflect the award-winning artist’s view of the world that makes order out of chaos.Rustan's For The Arts presents 'Flourishing' featuring the works of Gig de Pio (4) Rustan's For The Arts presents 'Flourishing' featuring the works of Gig de Pio (1) Rustan's For The Arts presents 'Flourishing' featuring the works of Gig de Pio (5)

The artist, who made his studies from materials that society has deemed as disposable, describes his collection as an appreciative view of the universe. “It is a matter of perception and where point of reference is; just a matter of finding gestalt in the random of things and events around the perceiver,” says De Pio. His abstracts on display, which includes an “installation painting” piece, illustrates the randomness of occurrences and encounters at intersections, which may happen repeatedly to become events.

Among his mentors were National Artist Napoleon Abueva who was his professor for sculpture, National Artist Vicente Manansala whom he assisted for the mural at the Coconut Planters Bank building, and Jose Joya whom he assisted for the mural at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). De Pio has mounted several successful shows including a solo at The Crucible.

Movie  Mass and dinner with our @verbumdeiphilippines family – The Verbum Dei mission accdg to Fr @mctavish_james – “We need the spirit to guide us. The spirit is the principal agent of the mission – the one that gives us that sense of unity and being together tonight as the VD community – we give thanks for the different members and the different tasks of each one. no one is doing this mission alone. We work together. Some of us are studying, some are in formation, some working for the poor but all working together. It’s like a symphony, different notes but when they are all played together you get that tune. Each one of us has to be faithful to that spirit. We have to be faithful to that spirit And do our part but not as soloist but as a symphony. “Sym” is together and “phonos” is voices. We all do our part in this mission. The CORE of the mission – what we are doing- We are trying to listen to the Lord ( his word) and we are trying to share it. That’s the core. All the different things we are doing. Aperuit Illis “When we take time to pray and meditate on the sacred text. We can speak from the and reach the  of those who hear us. “ Heart speaks to  “ OMG – for the past months i have been trying to figure out what my mission is and even last night when Father was saying this homily i was oblivious that the message was for me!!! And now that i typed this quote from Fr. James – I realized that God was speaking to me!!!  speaks to  #hspeaks2h It’s so clear now to me!!!! Making things right #h2h50 means taking on a new mission – and God has been talking to me through Fr. James!! ever since one year ago and through his book! OMG! Sometimes we just have to listen really  And not only me but everyone else who was there which included the hubby  Dina @dinajcampos Liza @lizachan25 – It’s not a coincidence that last minute i invited myself  and i invited Liza and Dina and they immediately said yes to come!! We are so ready! And I am really not alone! What a night!!!! #frjameswords #h2hquotes
