Gem Palace Jaipur

By | Great Achievements, Travel, Tributes | 3 Comments

One of the highlights of our Jaipur trip was the visit to Gem Palace!  Precious and semi precious stones come from different parts of the world, but they are sent to Jaipur for cutting and polishing.  The best craftsmen are Muslims.  So if you are looking for beautiful jewelry, Jaipur is the place to go.

After a few minutes of viewing, the owner arrived.  Actually he is the son of the owner.  Munuu, the father, had just passed away three months ago.  See his photo at the back. Siddharth took us to a private floor of the store and started showing us his collection!  Which of course is also for sale and shown only to special clients.

gem-palace-jaipur-010.jpg

Siddharth also goes to New York every now and then to attend to his clients by private appointment only

gem-palace-jaipur-044.jpg

One of his clients Dianne Von Fustenberg.  She loves the pieces she buys from Gem Palace because she always receives many compliments.  That’s a Gem Palace necklace she is wearing.  She sends photos of herself wearing the jewelry to Siddharth 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-031.jpg

Munuu is known worldwide.  He was a very good designer and jeweler.  Watch out for his book, it will be coming out by next year

gem-palace-jaipur-030.jpggem-palace-jaipur-028.jpgmunuu-gem-palace.jpg

And now Siddharth took over, who by the way is still single.  I was ashamed to ask how old he was 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-029.jpg

Siddharth starts bringing out his collection- this is a piece for the MMA of NYC which will be exhibited soon

Oh my gosh!  Those diamonds look so big but the most valuable part of this necklace is the emeralds!

He put those two pieces together and this is how it can look!  Mom tried it on! 🙂

James loves asking jewelers to show him pink diamonds claiming he will buy them for me 🙂  So Siddharth shows some pink colored stones

gem-palace-jaipur-026.jpg

He says that this is the stone that is getting to be popular now- Pink Spinel

gem-palace-jaipur-027.jpg

Which is why he is collecting loose pieces 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-037.jpg

The table was full – it was as if we were looking at fashion jewelry!

gem-palace-jaipur-032.jpggem-palace-jaipur-033.jpggem-palace-jaipur-034.jpggem-palace-jaipur-035.jpggem-palace-jaipur-036.jpg

Siddharth showed us this piece which he said he will use on his head when he gets married

gem-palace-jaipur-038.jpg

Afterwhich he will give it to his bride to wear as a belt!  What a lucky bride 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-039.jpggem-palace-jaipur-040.jpggem-palace-jaipur-041.jpggem-palace-jaipur-042.jpggem-palace-jaipur-045.jpg

We went down because the brother of Munuu, who is partner in the business, wanted to meet us too.

gem-palace-jaipur-046.jpg

He showed us this bridal piece which is meant for the Saudi Arabian market.  This is worn by the bride

gem-palace-jaipur-047.jpg

With a matching head piece which Maricar wore 🙂  All this selling at around US$ 1 million

gem-palace-jaipur-048.jpg

James made sure he signed the book to say he visited the Gem Palace! haha!! He thinks he is Brad Pitt! 🙂

This was really Brad Pitt, and I am wondering what he bought for Angelina 🙂

Celebrating Diwali in India

By | Christmas, Travel | 2 Comments

We came to India at a very good time, the weather was cool not hot.  They say the good time to travel is November to February is the tourist season of India.  We also came when it was Diwali.  Diwali or Festival of lights.  Diwali is like their Christmas and even New Year because they have lots of fireworks.  They decorate their stores and streets with plenty lights and they give each other gifts.  It’s a time for shopping – people spend and stores expect good sales because it is good luck 🙂  So aside from Namaste greetings, there was also Happy Diwali! 🙂

Raj told us that this store in Jaipur always wins first prize – when I saw it- it reminded me of COD department store in Cubao 🙂

diwali-01.jpgdiwali-02.jpgdiwali-03.jpgdiwali-04.jpgdiwali-05.jpg

They built this facade just for Diwali.

Matrimonials

By | Hot Off the Press, Travel | 2 Comments

Another interesting practice in Indian Culture.  They have a Matrimonials classified ads section every Sunday in their newspaper.  They are looking for partners 🙂

India

By | Photography, Travel | 2 Comments

India is such a beautiful place – with so many things to see and discover.  As we were most of the time riding the bus going around – it was difficult to take nice photos especially since I did not have my SLR.  There were so many moments I wanted to capture but I could not.  But my camera was still overworked!  I could not put it down even for a single moment because there were just too many beautiful things to capture!  I was able to get a few and I am sharing them here at H2H

india-1.jpgindia-2.jpgindia-3.jpg

They use CNG

india-01.jpgindia-02.jpgindia-04.jpgindia-06.jpgindia-07.jpgindia-08.jpgindia-09.jpgindia-010.jpgindia-011.jpg

Raj told us that when two guys are holding hands, it does not mean they are in a relationship.  They could be just close friends.  That’s how it is in India

india-012.jpg

Students touring also the sights

india-013.jpgindia-014.jpgindia-015.jpg

Love these shots! All are candid

india-016.jpgindia-017.jpgindia-018.jpgindia-021.jpgindia-019.jpgindia-020.jpg

A child beggar outside our bus 🙁

india-027.jpgindia-028.jpgindia-029.jpg

There were many moments like this during the road trips- just could not capture it because the bus was moving too fast. Many interesting people and colorful outfits by the ladies!

Colorful families

india-047.jpgindia-048.jpgindia-049.jpg

There were quite a number of places like this, where there was trash just there on the streets

A couple of these in tourist attractions 🙂

With a zoom lens I would have probably also taken more shots.  Sometimes they ask for money even if you just take their photo.  Like this woman cleaning the garden in one of the palaces. I guess some will try to make money if they could

india-059.jpgindia-060.jpg

I just turned around and caught this shot!  One of my favorites!

india-061.jpg

There were many beautiful images like this, but could not capture from the bus- I like these type of shots too

At a Catholic church that we went to

india-063.jpg

People shots I really love – and you see them all over!!

india-064.jpgindia-065.jpg

The kids in India are so cute! Their eyes are beautiful!! There are also many beautiful Indian women

I took this from afar – that guy carrying bread and selling them

Mirrors of the Rambagh Palace

By | Accomodations, Travel | No Comments

I don’t remember if in the other places we stayed, there were many kinds of mirrors, but for some reason I noticed many beautiful mirrors at the Rambagh Palace.  These are the ones I noticed, there could have been many more kinds of mirrors in the Palace 🙂

Steam at Rambagh Palace

By | Foodie, Travel | No Comments

We are so busy everyday, we hardly have time to appreciate our hotel.  We get home late afternoon or early evening already just in time for dinner

steam-at-rambagh-palace-01.jpg

We wanted to try the train in the hotel 🙂  So we came for dinner

steam-at-rambagh-palace-02.jpg

A day shot so you can see the train- an old train which they restored and made into a restaurant

The gang 🙂

They have a nice menu!  There were many choices aside from Indian food and it was nice to have a break for awhile.  It’s really a bar type of restaurant so it’s finger foods and snacks

The Pink City and the City Palace of Jaipur

By | Travel | One Comment

Jaipur is called the PINK CITY

 jaipur_logo.gif

because in the old city, all the structures are pink!  The kind of pink they are talking about is a peach or salmon kind of pink.  Which explained why the carpet people were showing me peach or salmon colored carpets when I kept asking for pink carpets!  haha!!  We were not understanding each other so i ended up not buying any pink carpet! 🙂

pink-city-07.jpgpink-city-08.jpgpink-city-09.jpgpink-city-010.jpgpink-city-011.jpgpink-city-012.jpgpink-city-013.jpg

That is just a facade!  As our tour guide Raj kept reminding us 🙂

pink-city-015.jpghawa-mahal.jpgpink-city-016.jpgpink-city-017.jpgpink-city-018.jpgpink-city-019.jpg

pink-city-03.jpg

We visited the City Palace where the Royal family still lives in.  Due to heavy taxation, they converted the ground level into a museum.  They did not allow photo taking in the museums so I have no photos, but they have a beautiful collection being exhibited – Textile, armors, doors, miniature paintings, etc
