Fort Santiago

By | Arts and Culture, Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel | No Comments

Our first actual stop where we went down from the jeepney was Fort Santiago.  It’s a beautiful place.  I wish we could do more things to liven up this place.  The only tour inside is the Museum of Jose Rizal.  The other tour just shows remnants of World War II which is quite sad.  I fear that if we tour Japanese and Americans here it would not be so nice to tell them – “This was where the Japanese imprisoned the Americans.”  It feels bad enough that not many good memories were left in this place, so they should turn it into a happy place now in the future.

I wish they would just give a brief explanation as to what the place was and talk about more positive things.  Or Just take them to the Museum and walk around the place.  Maybe have a nice cafe where they can sit and enjoy the place since there are very few historical sites in our city.  Maybe have some cultural shows and have nice quaint shops selling Philippine products and antiques

This is a happy sight for me 🙂  The guards look so elegant and reflects the past

fort-santiago2.JPG

The place would be beautiful without having to dwell too much on the war

fort-santiago3.jpegfort-santiago4.JPGfort-santiago5.jpegfort-santiago6.jpeg

There are some shops here which use to be prison cells – It would be nice to expand this and maybe upgrade the shops so more people will come and shop

fort-santiago7.jpeg

I was with Americans while doing the tour and I felt so akward when they had to hear all the horror stories of American being imprisoned 🙁  But look it’s beautiful here

fort-santiago8.jpeg

This description would have been enough.  I will be sending my comments and suggestions to the tour operator 🙂

This was a beautiful part of the tour – when they showed us Binondo.  Binondo is the oldest Chinatown in the world!!! You can see this from Fort Santiago

Another high tea experience at the lovely Wallace Collection!  I had more high tea than brunches while in London!  But that is what they like doing – brunch and high tea 🙂

Quintos Birthday

By | Arts and Culture, Celebrations, Travel | No Comments

I was so happy to celebrate the 13th birthday of Quinto that day.  How fast time flies!

Quinto and his friends came from school and they had some snacks at the V & A and just hung out in the courtyard.  They will all be graduating and will be going to different boarding schools around the UK

It’s always a prim and proper celebration whether in Manila or in London 🙂

We went to the Brompton Oratory afterwards for prayers and blessings.  They had dinner afterwards for some steak 🙂

Victoria & Albert Museum London

By | Arts and Culture, Fashion, Travel | No Comments

There are so many things I took for granted while I lived in London for a year and a half.  I actually took everything for granted and did not take advantage of the beautiful city.  There is so much to see!!!   Hoping to visit often to see everything in London and the nearby towns

Rina took me to the V & A and I wish I had more time to explore.  This museum is the source of design of artists all over the world.  They come here to draw inspiration for design.

Beautiful Dale Chihuly chandelier as you enter in the lobby

There was a special exhibit on going which we went to

Collage Party and Classes

By | Arts and Culture, Celebrations, Workshops | No Comments

More collage classes 🙂

Squeeze some creative fun into your life.

THE ART OF COLLAGE

Classes begin on June 7, Saturday.

My good friend, Toots, is so creative!  She is the collage Queen 🙂  She does this as a hobby and a profession as she is an artist 🙂  Collage is not just an art piece, you can apply it to many things like this gift bag for example 🙂  Toots made this for me and gave it to me for my birthday 🙂  It’s so personalised because she knows I like pink.  It’s a bag that’s so pretty I used it again and passed it on to another dear friend of mine and I am sure she will reuse it again

bag-collage-classes.jpeg

Not only does Toots have classes, she can organise a Collage party!!!!  What a grand idea!!!

collage-classes-by-toots-magsino-ac-batch-87.jpgcollage-classes-by-toots-magsino.jpg

My batch mate Lally, arrived from Canada, so instead of just having a dinner, the get together was made into a Collage party

collage-classes-by-toots-magsino-2.jpg3-busy-working.JPG

This is how each of them described the party 🙂  It’s interesting what Art can bring out and what it can do to you.  It’s not only a work of art, it’s not only the act of making something, but read on to see what they have to say

about-toots-collage-classes.jpgabout-toots-collage-classes.jpgcollage-classes-by-toots-magsino-1.jpg

According to Clarissa, they each had to explain what their work was about  – The Collage they had to make was – Where you are now and where you want to be in the future.  Here are the finished works of the group

collages-1.jpegcollages-2.jpeg

She even had personalised giveaways for each participant

Kadinsky at J Studio

By | Arts and Culture | No Comments

We went to J Studio to attend an exhibit – Kadinsky.  It was in a warehouse in Taguig where apparently many artists live in

kadinsky-at-j-studio-18.JPG

This unit was where Isa Lorenzo of Silverlens used to live and now converted to an art studio by Jia Santos Estrella
