Vintage Rustan’s

By | Arts and Culture, What's New at Rustan's | 2 Comments

This is my most favorite work of art!  The old Rustan’s makati building.  The building was designed by Architect Sala and constructed by AMOreta.  This was built in the 70’s and my Dad built this together with my grandmother.  He always tells me that this store was born when I was born in 1970.  That is how he remembers the age of this building 🙂

I wish they didn’t have to remove the design

Here are different photos taken from different pages in facebook sent to me by friends

And here is a small drawing by artist PEPPER ROXAS

It is entitled “forgotten buildings.”  I don’t think this building is really forgotten and will ever be forgotten

Art in the Park 2012

By | Arts and Culture | One Comment

This year, we attended Art in the Park in a different way.  There was an auction that afternoon and James told me about it so we went.  It was at Salcedo Auctions which is in the vicinity of the park

img_3082.JPGimg_3083.jpg

We stayed all throughout from 4pm to around 6 pm

eb_result_top.jpg

James insisted on bidding for this Lot 8 Baccarat paperweight for me, but it didn’t reach the reserve price

We listened to Missy Sanares-Reyes talk about Painting Conservation

img_3096.JPGimg_3092.jpgimg_3093.jpg

And though she lectured about restoring paintings, I would not dare touch my painting and would just put it in her expert care!  Do call Missy if you need to restore your paintings through Salcedo Auctions

There will be an upcoming auction for Philippine Art, we are looking forward to this!

Art by Kim Oliveros

Visited Tita Bettina in her house a few months ago and saw these beautiful paintings of Japanese girls!  I love it how she so randomly saw them at a show, loved them and bought 4 paintings all in one go!  That’s how it should really be!  Acquire the art pieces that you are attracted to

Pinto Art Museum

By | Arts and Culture, Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel | One Comment

Here is a portrait of the famous Dr. Cuanang ( by Winner Jumalon 2006)  found at the Pinto Museum.  Thank you Dr. Cuanang for your amazing contribution to Philippine art!

saling-pusa-053.jpg

We were toured by one of the Saling Pusa artists, Jim Orencio

saling-pusa-018.jpg

The Museum had just opened last December 2010 and I heard it took around 2 years to build with the help of artist Tony Leaño

Love the display of the Philippine flag!

saling-pusa-03.jpgsaling-pusa-04.jpgsaling-pusa-05.jpg

It’s Plet’s sculpture by the garden!!

saling-pusa-06.jpgsaling-pusa-07.jpg

I was just so awed and dumbfounded so to see so many beautiful antiques and art works around the place!

saling-pusa-08.jpg

Wow!  This was the first artwork you see as you enter the gallery!  What a treasure!!!!!! A 1992 painting made by the Saling Pusa group! PRICELESS!

saling-pusa-016.jpgsaling-pusa-010.jpg

Dr. Cuanang has a beautiful collection! He knew these artists had talent and he supported them.  How can you put a value to even just that alone?  And now it is even so difficult to acquire such works from these artists – Elmer Borlongan, Tony Leaño, Mark Justinani, John Santos, Joy Mallari, Emmanuel Garibay, Geronimo Tapales and the rest of the group!

Visit to Dr. Cuanang

By | Arts and Culture, Homes and Interiors | No Comments

Since Howard and Lyn love art, the family took them to Antipolo to Dr. Cuanang’s home and gallery.  I have not been here in so long.  The last time was when the doctor was only starting and people were just talking about him.  So, this was a big change for me to see how it has transformed.  For me, the whole place is a work of art in itself.  It’s beautiful, the garden, the works of art scattered all over the place and I just love all the old Filipino objects of art which are rare already nowadays.  Truly anything that is of good quality will always have value many many years down the road
