Francois Nars grew up in the South of France, whewe he spent his childhood exploring his fashion-plate mother, Claudette’s Vogue magazines and watching classic Hollywood and European cinema. He was inspired by the exuberant sophistication of Yves Saint Laurent, he sumealist wit of Guy Bourdin, and the inimitable glamour of starlets like Catherine Denueve. To this day, these first insipirations shape Francois’ approach to beauty, and often come to life as dramatic make up look or evocative, cinema-inspired product names like Dolce Vita, Strada, or Belle de Jour.

Upon graduating from the famed Carita Makeup School in Paris, Francois Nars’ rapid ascent in the fashion world reflected talent, hard work, and uncommon vision. His approach to makeup to make up was still is revolutionary: to use make up to explore the depths and nuances of individual character. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld and Versace, admired his ability to create iconic looks, both highly theatrical and ultra-natural, that engaged in compelling dialogue with their designs. For photographers like Avedon and Melsel, Francois created a vast repertoire of looks that never failed to uniquely capture a woman’s individuality. He celebrates the indefinable mystique of women and the complexities of individual character with a spirited attitude that begs, “Why so serious? It’s only makeup”.

Francois’ signature approach to image making is exemplified by his close collaboration with Madonna in the ‘90’s. He helped forge the star’s perpetual reinvention, uncovering aspects of her personality that no one had ever seen, conveying an innate vulnerability, sensuality and a timeless glamour.

Francois Nars unwittingly revolutionize the makeup industry when he launched NARS, his cult beauty collection, debuting at Barneys New York with 12 lipsticks in essential, highly pigmented colors. As anticipation builds for JC Buendia’s 25th gala show, backstage was brimming with exciting scenes as hair stylists, led by the TRESemme hair stylists —Jing Monis, Victor Ortega and Tinette Putyat, along with makeup artists and models got busy prepping up for JC Buendia’s gala show. With his vision of making each suite look unique from each other, JC Buendia sought the help of TRESemme in fusing the looks to create an amazing show that will definitely awe the crowd.

Renowned fashion photographer Sara Black joins the Dove team for the second time as she peeps through the lens to capture Dove’s real beauties in awe-inspiring photographs. Black recently published her book “When I look in the Mirror” which featured a diverse group of women in ‘un-retouched’ photos to celebrate every woman’s unique and individual beauty. For the latest Dove campaign, Black will interpret 10 inspiring stories of real women and how their inner beauty and strength were able to break social barriers.

Working alongside Black are some of the country’s top female photographers, among them Joan Bitangcol, Isa Lorenzo and Pilar Tuason. The pictures will be used in the new Dove billboard and also in a grand exhibit slated later this year.

Dove’s latest campaign is definitely more than skin deep. Beyond the search for women with exceptionally beautiful and glowing skin is a celebration of a woman’s new-found confidence that stems from taking good care of one’s self. Though its French name directly translates to “a beautiful view”, it is an understatement to describe Salon Beauvoir, the metro’s newest luxury salon, as just beautiful. Tucked in the tranquil quarters of Somerset Olympia at the core of Makati’s bustling CBD, this relaxing sanctuary  tops the growing list of high-end pampering centers today.

Beyond the Usual Flair

Upon entering, guests won’t help but wonder if they’ve just been transported to an elegant dressing room of an aristocratic French boudoir. From its interiors alone, Salon Beauvoir is truly a feast for the senses. Deviating from the usual modern minimalist style, the salon’s take on its French inspiration commences with the delicate wall treatments and is carried onto the ceilings adorned with elegant chandeliers.  The lobby makes a grand statement with an impressive reception table, a larger-than-life velvet couch paired with an equally huge vintage mirror.  The main styling area has eight individual dressers lining the wall and is complemented by ten individual floating stations in acrylic and steel, fusing vintage with modern touches.

A visit to the salon starts with a consultation with the creative team to discuss the customers’ personal beauty needs.   Leading the team is the husband-and-wife tandem of Jojo and Monette Rivera.   Having honed her hairdressing technique with Vidal Sassoon in Kuala Lumpur and her color expertise through various courses with L’Oreal Academie, Monette takes on the role of Creative Director. She comes with more than 20 years of experience in various high-end salons in Metro Manila.  Just recently, she bagged the highest award for the L’Oreal Master Colorist course and will be sharing her knowhow as the featured Local Guest Artist of L’Oreal for 2012.

On the other hand, Senior Stylist Jojo Rivera is considered one of the “best kept secrets” in men hair styling because of his exceptional expertise in men’s grooming. In his more than two decades of experience in the industry, Jojo has won the prestigious Schwarzkopf Hair Styling Competition and represented the country in the international competition.  He is a favorite stylist to many male personalities in the country today.

Another member of the Salon Beauvoir creative team is international stylist, Sam Santos, who has travelled to no less than 70 countries. His rigorous but exciting trainings in London as part of the Steiner Group (the official hairdresser to the queen and her guests), have greatly helped  him hone his craft.  With 26 years in the beauty industry, he is an authority in hair styling, makeup, treatments, and facials. He was even given the moniker the “Repair Man” by his clients because of his remarkable skill in hair styling and rejuvenating extremely damaged hair. 

Adding to the list is the young and stylish, Pam Ferrater who has more than ten years of salon experience.  She studied hairdressing at the Center for Aesthetic Studies (CAS) and later had the chance to become the personal hair stylist and makeup artist for the royal family in Brunei. While multi-skilled, she specializes in hair and makeup, including airbrush makeup.  

Another key member of the Salon Beauvoir team is Susy Cervantes, known in some beauty circles as the “Waxing Queen.” She has trained in top local and international salons in more than fifteen years in the beauty industry. Susy supervises the nail and body care group of Salon Beauvoir and continues to be the preferred “waxing lady” of her exclusive and upscale clientele.

To ensure utmost privacy, the salon has 3 VIP rooms equipped with delightful amenities such as iPads for use of the VIP guests.  Each room is perfect for individuals who want to unwind after a day’s work or for a group of friends who want to bond over beauty pampering sessions. A separate private room is designated as the waxing and facial service area.
