 Neotextiles
Textile has always been an integral part of Filipino culture, tradition, and history. The diverse patterns and colors of Philippine textiles and the intricacy of weaving techniques reflect the ingenuity and craftsmanship of Filipino artisans in the different regions of the country.
The Material Development program of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), under the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), is a textile development initiative that seeks to develop and promote commercially-viable and globally-competitive fabrics and fabric-based products – through the brand NeoTextiles Philippines.
Launched in 2013 at the Manila FAME October edition, NeoTextiles Philippines weaves together homegrown design talents and indigenous weaving communities to create contemporary Philippine textiles: fabrics that are ethnic-inspired yet versatile, artisanal yet progressive, world-class yet distinctly Filipino. Manila Fame October 2015 (53)

Kate Hudson, Michael Kors Ambassadorship, 10 Million Meals

By | Blogs, SSI Group Inc | No Comments

Michael Kors is pleased to share several important pieces of news.

First, a milestone: The brand, together with its customers has helped deliver over 10 million meals to hungry children around the world through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

Next, an exciting announcement: Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-nominated actress Kate Hudson is joining forces with Michael Kors to help fight global hunger.

Finally, an honor: In recognition of his philanthropic efforts, Michael Kors has been named a United Nations World Food Programme Global Ambassador Against Hunger.

All three announcements center on Watch Hunger Stop, the philanthropic campaign launched by Michael Kors in 2013, when the brand entered into a long-term partnership with WFP to help build a world with zero hunger. Since then, each sale of a Michael Kors 100 Series watch has enabled 100 children in need to receive a nutritious meal through WFP’s School Meals Program.* Additionally, in October 2014, Michael Kors personally pledged to donate 100 meals for every “selfless selfie” posted on social media that showed fans posing in the Michael Kors Watch Hunger Stop T-shirt with the hashtag #WatchHungerStop. These efforts, together with donations made in Michael Kors retail stores and via text, have added up to over 10 million meals.

“I’m very proud that through our Watch Hunger Stop campaign we’ve helped WFP deliver over 10 million meals to children in need. We couldn’t have done this without the compassion and efforts of our fans and customers whose support of this important cause is inspiring,” says Michael Kors.

Kate Hudson’s support of Watch Hunger Stop will bring new levels of awareness to the fight to end world hunger. Renowned for her acting career, Kate Hudson has also been involved in numerous causes and organizations, including The Hawn Foundation and many others dedicated to children, education and human rights.  “I’m proud to join Michael Kors in this global effort to end hunger,” says Hudson. “As a mother, I can’t think of anything more important than raising a healthy and educated generation of children, and WFP’s School Meals Program is committed to exactly that. This is a cause that I’m eager to be a part of because I believe we can all make a real and significant difference.”

The first project to feature Hudson and Kors together will be the October launch of two limited-edition styles of the Bradshaw watch as part of the Watch Hunger Stop campaign. Every sale of one of these special styles, named the Bradshaw 100, will enable 100 children in need to receive a nutritious meal through WFP’s School Meals program.*

Kate Hudson_Michael Kors

The watches will be available exclusively in Michael Kors stores worldwide and on michaelkors.com in the U.S. Also during the month of October, in conjunction with World Food Day on October 16, customers and visitors to Michael Kors retail stores will be able to make a $5, $10 or $25 donation to WFP at the register.

“I am so excited to have Kate Hudson join me in the fight to ensure that no child anywhere in the world goes to bed hungry,” says Kors. “Not only does she have a unique star quality but she also brings an incredible amount of generosity and a can-do attitude to a cause that is extremely important to me personally. I’m grateful to work alongside her and WFP to make a real change.”

The designer’s appointment as a Global Ambassador Against Hunger for WFP illustrates the depth of his, and the brand’s, dedication to an essential goal. “We are grateful to Michael for his strong commitment to the goal of zero hunger and all the children, women and men who will have a chance at a brighter future because of his support,” says Ertharin Cousin, Executive Director of WFP. “WFP looks forward to working even more closely with Michael and his company to make a hunger free world a reality.”

“It’s an honor to be named a Global Ambassador Against Hunger, and a further inspiration to me to continue the important work of ending world hunger hand in hand with WFP,” says Kors. “WFP has a global presence, with people on the ground in countries that are most affected by hunger and malnutrition, and they’re doing an amazing job helping families and communities build a better future for themselves.”

Information about the Watch Hunger Stop campaign can be found on watchungerstop.com, a specially designed microsite created to serve as the hub for all of Michael Kors’ hunger-fighting philanthropic efforts. There, visitors can find a wealth of content—much of it shareable—relating to the fight against hunger, WFP and Michael Kors. They can also find out how to text to donate directly to WFP.

PAPER MOON CAKE BOUTIQUE AND CAFÉ OPENS IN MANILA

By | Blogs | One Comment

I went to Paper Moon excited because I love Mille Feuille!  However, I did not know that the lady behind Paper Moon is the same lady who started Lady M!!!  The original Mille Feuille in New York City!!! I have been wanting to meet the person behind Lady M and here she was right in front of me!!!  Madame Emy Wada!  She is Japanese!  I wanted to take her photo but she is so shy, she just kept looking down and was busy helping out in the store.  They sold Lady M to Ken Romaniszyn when they left New York City and put up Paper Moon in Tokyo.  They already closed Paper Moon in Tokyo and now it is in Manila!!!

Acclaimed to be among the finest and best desserts in Tokyo, the exquisite cake creations of Tokyo’s Grand Dame of Specialty Cakes, Madame Kazuko EMY WADA, particularly the ORIGINAL MILLE CREPE, will now be served in Manila with the much-awaited opening of PAPER MOON Cake Boutique and Cafe.

Paper Moon Cake Boutique and Café of Tokyo offers a fresh, distinctive slice of French specialty cakes and pastries created with meticulous Asian skill that is distinctly Japanese. The opening of Paper Moon comes in sync with the growing sophistication of the Filipino palate as well as the increasing popularity and legitimacy of Asian skill in the international food arena.

The Signature ORIGINAL MILLE CREPE by Madame Emy Wada

Literally meaning “a thousand crepes,” more popularly known as “Crepe Cake,” Madame Emy Wada’s signature Original Mille Crepe is an exquisite creation. It has no less than twenty delicate, paper-thin handmade crêpes layered with heavenly light pastry cream, all topped with a golden, caramelized crust. Mille Crepe PAper Moon Philippines

Paper Moon’s EMY WADA: Tokyo’s Grand Dame of Specialty Cakes, Cake Artisan Par Excellence

Tokyo’s Madame Emy Wada, cake artisan par excellence, has been in the business of creating specialty cakes for close to 40 years. As a child, Madame Emy has already been strongly interested in the art of baking. As a young housewife, she learned the art and joy of making cakes and pastries from her Austrian mother-in-law. She since pursued her passion, living in Europe to harness not just her culinary skills but also to learn the sophistication of packaging and presentation. While in France, she further honed her eye with a stay at a ribbon factory that supplied the luxury brand Hermes.

Madame Emy began her career in the 1970’s as a cake supplier to 7 out of the best 10 cafes in Tokyo. By 1985, she successfully opened her own chain of specialty cake shops, the Paper Moon Cake Boutiques, in various locations throughout Japan such as Tokyo, Haneda Airport, Osaka, Kyoto, Ginza, and Karizawa Lake Town. In 1990, she continued to be the preferred cake and pastries purveyor of the biggest Japanese coffee chains such as Doutor and Tully’s, as well as the fine French shopping brand Printemps, with her clients all clamoring for her extraordinary Paper Moon specialty cakes, especially her signature Original Mille Crepe.

In 2001, she expanded her operations to New York City where she supplied her cakes to Dean & Deluca, Takashimaya, and Neiman Marcus. She even founded and opened the acclaimed Lady M Cake Boutique in the Upper East Side, which she had to give up several glorious years later to focus instead on the Tokyo operations of her business. Madame Emy’s signature creations such as the Original Mille Crepe and the mille feuille earned non-stop raves from customers and food critics in New York and have been rightfully hugely popular blockbusters in all her shops.

These heavenly specialty cakes drew the rapt attention of Filipino show business / entertainment mogul, VIVA’s Vicente “Boss Vic” del Rosario, Jr. (a longtime friend and business associate of Madame Emy’s husband) during his frequent travels to Tokyo and New York. Known for having the instinct and the “golden touch” in tapping creative geniuses in all forms and transforming them into superstars, Boss Vic has convinced Madame Emy, who has gone into retirement in 2013, to let the Filipinos experience the exquisite taste of the Original Mille Crepe and her other signature specialty cake creations. Boss Vic and Madame Emy have then partnered through Viva International Food & Restaurants, Inc., the food subsidiary of the Viva Group of Companies, in bringing Paper Moon Cake Boutique and Café to Manila, and later on to the rest of Southeast Asia.

Paper Moon Cake Boutique and Café of Tokyo proudly serves the signature Original Mille Crepe along with a fine menu featuring Madame Emy’s other specialty cakes as well as light savory dishes and beverages. It opens in Glorietta 3 on August 7 and in TriNoma the following day.

So to those of you with great ideas and want to test it out, look for RJ 🙂

An explosion of bold flavors, exotic ingredients and mouthwatering aromas are set to tickle the palate in the most, exciting way through the first local edition of Madrid Fusion.

For more than 12 years, Madrid Fusion has been the most important international gastronomic event on progressive haute cuisine in Spain, and for the first time in history, the event will be held outside Madrid, and comes to the Philippines through the efforts of the Department of Tourism.

Salvatore Ferragamo and the silver screen – an enduring liaison.

The Maison has joined forces with Disney to create the shoes for Lady Tremaine for the highly anticipated film Cinderella.

Ferragamo has once again proven its strong ties with Hollywood: the special relationship established by Salvatore Ferragamo himself earned him the sobriquet “Shoemaker of the stars”.

The latest example is a partnership with Disney for its forthcoming live-action featureCinderella, inspired by the classic fairy tale. The film brings to life the timeless images from the studio’s 1950 animated masterpiece in a visually-dazzling spectacle for a whole new generation.

The brand has been chosen to work with Sandy Powell to create the shoes for Cinderella’s stepmother Lady Tremaine, played by Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett.

CINDERELLA

“It was a great privilege,” explains costume-designer Sandy Powell, “to collaborate with the legendary Ferragamo on the shoes and boots for Cate Blanchett who was playing Lady Tremaine (the wicked stepmother) in Cinderella. It was exciting and inspiring to see my designs come to life with such exquisite craftsmanship.”

CINDERELLA

Sandy Powell and Salvatore Ferragamo’s creative director Massimiliano Giornetti teamed up to create pumps, lace-up shoes and boots in a host of different colours and materials. All were fashioned with painstaking attention to detail, reflecting Ferragamo’s history of excellence in craftsmanship – a unique approach in which the company’s tradition is combined with modern style.
