Isa’s Chinese New Year Dinner

By | Celebrations, Foodie | One Comment

Thank you to our friend, Isa,  for inviting us for Chinese New Year dinner!!

We always enjoy being with Isa because she is so down to earth, so funny and crazy!  She is so generous always that even the waiter questioned her tip to them 🙂  She is always so organized and prepared.  She planned it and prepared the menu in advance.

We love you Isa! Thank you for sharing yourself and your love with us which makes us very wealthy just by being our friend!

We have been very impressed with Summer Palace as we have been invited here a few times.  And everytime is always a unique experience.

 Salmon Yee Sang

What an interesting dish!  We all learned about it as Nancy explained it to us.  This dish is served during Chinese New Year in Singapore and Malaysia.

During the olden times,  gems were used for trading. So, each ingredient represents a gem.

Clockwise:  Sapphire ( Raisins ), Tangerine  ( Mango ), Gold Bars ( Carrot strips ), Ruby ( watermelon ), Cat Eyes ( corn ), Emerald (Cucumber strips ), topaz ( Jellyfish ), Diamonds ( Melon )

GOLD – Shredded carrots

underneath the shredded carrots is I think raddish which represents Diamonds

summer-palace4.jpg

Nancy added the salmon which means ADDING MORE WEALTH, then she sprinkled pepper ( silver flakes ) and cinnamon ( gold flakes )

summer-palace5.jpg

Then she added some crispy flakes which represent gold – so adding more gold

Sesame seeds – represents children, grandchildren, employees, business associates – Sharing your wealth with them

Peanuts – for HEALTH and LONGEVITY

summer-palace6.jpg

Add sesame oil and plum sauce for solid and sweet life

Then everyone in the table has to toss the salad – the higher you toss the more abundance of wealth

summer-palace-7.jpgsummer-palace8.jpg

The salad was actually very good!!  We all enjoyed it..not only because it meant wealth and abundance 🙂

summer-palace9.jpgsummer-palace10.jpgsummer-palace12.jpgsummer-palace16.jpgsummer-palace14.jpgsummer-palace11.jpg summer-palace13.jpg summer-palace15.jpg

And Isa’s special dessert!!! WOW!! She created this, suddenly I felt like we were in a French restaurant.  My favorite was the buchi with sesame ice cream!

New Year’s Countdown Spread

By | Celebrations, Foodie | 5 Comments

After dinner, we all congregated in the hotel room of Dad and Mom and continued our New Year’s countdown…. This was our food spread which we put on the coffeetable. Mom brought all the gourmet stuff which she bought in the food hall of Mitsukoshi and we brought all the junk food 🙂

dsc_8408a.JPG

Wow!! Yummy strawberries from Japan- they look so perfect!! and taste really good!! Mom buys the condensed milk that comes in a tube and we sometimes add it to the strawberries, but usually it does not need it anymore

dsc_8410.JPG

Sparkling juice for the kids since they can’t drink champagne 🙂

dsc_8411.JPG

Hmmm….so why is Javier sipping some champagne…nevermind just a little for New Years!

dsc_8430.JPG

Yum yum!!

dsc_8413.JPG

Almond leaf cookie – really good!! You need to try this when you go to Japan!! I wish someone here in the Philippines can make this!

dsc_8417.JPG

French Cheese which everyone loved!

dsc_8920.JPGdsc_8922.JPG

And wow!! Japanese MUSK Melon!! YUMMY!!!! The most expensive melon in the world!! So only on special occassions!  I think one slice costs 2,000 + yen each.  And one whole melon can cost from 10,000 yen to 20,000 yen ( US$ 200 plus )

Aunty Remy’s 75th Birthday

By | Celebrations | 2 Comments

Aunty Remy’s definitely does not look 75 years old… she is looking young and strong as ever…She has a walking group that she walks with in the mornings and she still goes to the gym to keep in shape.  She is very active travelling to see her family abroad, she runs her household and takes care of her grandchildren.  Aside from that, she takes care of Dad, her brother.  Dad is so lucky to have a sister that takes care of him..

remys-75th-birthday-4.jpg

It was  nice for Rainier to surprise his Mom on her special day!  We were all surprised too when we found out he came all the way from the States for just a week to spend time with his Mom….

Happy Birthday Aunty Remy!!

remys-75th-birthday-3.jpg

Uncle Ray and Aunty Remy join us in our Sunday family lunch and they take turns too with the kids in hosting.  And Aunty Remy prepares almost everything from her kitchen… This is how she celebrated her birthday with us.  Thank you Aunty Remy!

E.T. Party?

By | Celebrations, For kids | 3 Comments

Two years ago, Javier wanted an ET party, but since ET was not as popular anymore at that time, it was hard to find ET related/themed merchandise

 javiers-et-party2.jpg

They were supposed to color their own ET and use it as a decoration for their bag to put all their goodies which I realized was very flimsy and breaks easily

dsc04534.JPG

We just wanted a simple celebration so we thought of just sharing the games and things that Javier liked. No party host, no nothing….. Not the normal party kids were expecting…everything just happened spontaneously and it looked like the kids enjoyed!! Javier said it was his BEST party 🙂 which was good enough for us as it was his birthday!

javiers-et-party3.jpg

Spinners!!

javiers-et-party4.jpgjaviers-et-party8.jpg

I would buy these party spray for Javier because he liked pretending to be spiderman so it was his ” WEB.”  Bought several for his party and everyone enjoyed spraying each other

javiers-et-party5.jpgjaviers-et-party6.jpgjaviers-et-party7.jpg

Then we made water balloons which everyone used to attack each other as well

dsc04517.JPGjaviers-et-party11.jpgjaviers-et-party9.jpgjaviers-et-party12.jpg

Since they were all wet and gooey already…they all wanted to jump in the pool!! Which was not part of the agenda so no one had swimming outfits….. so they jumped in with their clothes on!! Good thing the parents who were there were very cooperative and let their kids jump in!

javiers-et-party13.jpg javiers-et-party14.jpg

So then I had to think of swimming games….

javiers-et-party15.jpg

There was a CANDY BUFFET since Javier loves ( and still does until now ) candy…anyone could just get what they want

dsc04512.JPG

 Then the cake blowing

javiers-et-party17.jpg javiers-et-party18.jpg

The last part was a floor filled with balloons and candies and toys for the kids to grab and take home
