Nicole Miller Spring/Summer 2010 A Modern Take on Prints

By | Fashion, What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

The girl has a tougher edge. This is the theme of the current collection of Nicole Miller.

nicolemiller2a.jpg

Nicole Miller is a fashion designer with a modern, ageless aesthetic.  Her silhouettes are artfully draped to achieve a unique body consciousness.  Her signature is feminine, sexy and refined.  Miller draws inspiration from a wide range of influences including cinema, contemporary art, mid-20th century architecture and exotic cultures.  She is known for elements of whimsy and surprise, and is the preeminent New York- based designer among global fashion’s print and color elite.

nicolemiller1.jpg

Pushing forward body consciousness through her pieces, the nonconformist glamour of Miller’s clothes is a favorite of many in hollywood.  Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Lauren Hutton, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker have recently appeared in her designs.  Her work is often shown on the covers and in the pages of leading fashion and lifestyle magazines world wide – and in cyber space, Nicole Miller is one of the most visible designer brand names anywhere. Nicole Miller reinvents fabric manipulation, while taking a modern take on prints.

Experimenting with new technology and abstracting traditional craft, Nicole Miller pieces are indeed a work of art.

Nicole Miller is Exclusively available in Rustan’s Makati and Rustan’s Shangrila

Back to Basics with Ralph Lauren Spring 2010

By | Fashion, What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

The runway of the Ralph Lauren Spring Summer 2010 Collection in New York Fashion Week focused on fashion staples that have always stood the test of time. The designer turned the current crisis into positive through taking inspiration from the Great Recession that showed the spirit of American resiliency and hard work. As Ralph Lauren puts it, “I am inspired by the character of the worker, the farmer, the cowboy, and the pioneer women of the prairies.” So in place of the polo fields or any of his other pony stomping grounds, Lauren took us back to the dust bowl for Spring.

rljspring201013.jpgrljspring201014.jpg

Dominated by classics from jeans and linen to clean lines with splash of floral patterns, and finally subtle yet glamorous ensembles, the Ralph Lauren collection encapsulated what American work wear and fashion truly is. Models in newsboy caps wore faded and torn oversize jeans with blue work shirts; patchwork overalls; nightshirts in mattress-ticking stripes; or sweet calico print dresses with white ankle socks and oxfords with heels.

 rljspring20101.jpg

With four key looks that will captivate every lady’s wardrobe, the designer once again proved why he is the icon for American dressing. The collection began with Authentic Elegance wherein faded denim work wear and soft floral dresses conveyed a romantic ideal. Moving forward with the New Sophisticate, this line is more compelling with a sense of strength and sophistication in menswear inspired suiting and striking navy evening wear. Confidence and elegant purity were the main ideas for the Timeless Grace line with delicate feminine looks rendered in organdy and white linen. Finally, Contemporary Glamour ushered faded blue silks and resplendent icy metallics that reveal the heritage of denim while evoking a new style of luxurious yet simple evening glamour.

 rljspring20102a.jpgrlspring20104.jpg

Like most of Lauren’s collections, it was cinematic. From one creation to the other, the show played like a rags-to-riches tale, a story line dear to the designer’s heart. Starting with white cotton organdy dresses and some thirties-esque suits, to the work jackets and carpenter pants in blue ombré silk charmeuse, while the nightshirts came striped with beads and the overalls were transformed into a floor-grazing lamé dress. A pair of evening jeans, completely covered in silvery beads save for the fraying holes, took the concept to the limit.

In the Philippines, Polo Ralph Lauren Blue Label is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and is located at Shangri-La Plaza Mall, 158 Designer’s Blvd., Alabang Town Center, and soon to open on March in Rustan’s Makati.

Gucci Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

By | Fashion, What's New at Rustan's | 5 Comments

A combustion of House tradition and cutting edge techniques leads to a rich and luxurious variety of accessories.  Gucci’s famed Bamboo bag, first introduced in the late 1940s, is reborn as the New-Bamboo with a leather-wound handle, new shoulder strap and innovative materials such as stoned pigskin, stoned crocodile, and bonded neoprene GG.

gucci-new-bamboo-large-top-handle-bag-in-cement-grey.jpg

Crocodile, the noblest of Gucci’s historic skins, has undergone a radical transformation – fading from a smoked, opaque surface to a hand-polished brilliance in a web effect on flat clutches or oversized bags. The mechanical horsebit cinched with ropes of braided leather has become a key feature on the handbag handles. gucci-techno-horsebit-large-shoulder-bag-with-flap-in-great.jpggucci-techno-horsebit-large-shoulder-bag-with-flap-in-mariti.jpg

Metal embroidery appears on white calfskin handbags, silver rope necklaces, and on evening platform sandals that climb up the ankle. Platform shoes, grab the ankle with a buckle while a spliced knee-high boot dramatically spirals up the calf.

The Fusion of Art and Fashion: Longchamp

The Fusion of Art and Fashion: Longhamp

For Spring/ Summer 2010, Lonchamp is inspired by the world of art, imagining a woman who- in the tradition of legendary muses and collectors- expresses her eclectic passions in a personal style that is innovative, individual and devastatingly chic. As she travels from studio to gallery, museum to art fair, her tastes embrace the season’s two key trends: a romantic theme of dusty pastels and zingy acid brights evokes images of Miami and Capri, while a contemporary theme of graphic contrasts beween intense indigos, vibrant oranges and lacquer reds buzzes with artistic energy of New York and Hong Kong.

Carefree and cosmopolitan, she goes where the mood takes her, by turns model and muse, artist and aesthete. To accompany her through spring, summer and beyond, Longchamp has created a gallery of bags from which she chooses according to her inspiration. Among the highlights are the iconic Gatsby, revisited in the collection’s key colours, exotic finishes and even silkscreen- printed with a painterly motif, and the canvas Expression holdall, a wonderfully witty on the season’s standout paint-splash print, decorated with a spontaneously set patch pocket and labels, and trimmed with fine natural leather.

Romantique Collection: Beige- Celadon

Delicate as porcelain, pale celadon quietly sets off a refined palette of natural beige and flesh tones. Exotic finishes create interesting textural effects, most strikingly a bold viper print on patent calfskin.

Gris- Citrine

Serene and sophisticated in the summer heat, the season’s cool cocktail of grey shades is spiked with a dash of acid bright citrine. 4.jpg

Moka- Lilas

In this deliciously feminine theme, rich dark chocolate and mocha shades are accented by deliate lilac and parma- dusty pastels which capture the season’s romantic mood with sophistication rather than sweetness.

Indigo- Orange

The collection’s graphic inspiration is crystallized in this theme, which contrasts vibrant orange with intense indigo, and features the season’s standout print- spontaneous streaks of colour on a natural beige background, inspired by a painter’s palette.

In the Philippines, Longchamp is available at Rustan’s Makati, Shangri-la Mall and Ayala Center Cebu

Be Stupid

By | Fashion, What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

[wp_youtube]Y4h8uOUConE[/wp_youtube]

Diesel SS’10 campaign is a shorthand for bravery, spontaneity and saying “yes”

be-stupid27.jpg

 diesel-be-stupid-text.jpg

Sick of being told that all your good ideas are “stupid”?

Well, we got news for you: there’s nothing dumb about stupid.

After all, Diesel was stupid enough to start selling new jeans that looked old – and look where that got them!

When somebody says “don’t be stupid”, what they’re really saying is “Don’t have fun. Don’t be daring. Don’t provoke. Bury your sense of humour. Get serious.

 be-stupid30.jpg

So we say: “Get lost. We’re with stupid”

be-stupid14.jpg

Stupid is the liberating alternative to dry-as-dust cerebral (so called “smart”) and it takes courage, loads!

Stupid is the very word all those folk use to dismiss anything original and genuine.

Stupid is about having the guts to risk, to take on the new and inventive, however dangerous.

be-stupid13.jpg

Stupid is about passion, wearing the wrong thing in the right place, swapping roles trying something new, failing, trying again – and failing better.

be-stupid7.jpg

Diesel is stupid and thoroughly identifies with it and lives it as the clearest expression ever what the brand is standing for.

Photographers Kristin Vicari, Melodie McDaniel and Chris Buck help visualize the positive rebellion of the Be Stupid movement providing images that, working together with razor sharp captions, anchor an entire philosophy that will go on a multimedia campaign devised by the Diesel Creative Team in partnership with the Anglo-American agency Anomaly.

The classic red Diesel logo makes its signature return to endorse and celebrate “Be Stupid” as the way to Successful Living.

Shooting in California, a stupid amount of ingredients were thrown into a stupid mix: a bus, four houses, a couple of parks, an animal wrangler, the desert, an artist’s studio, a bar, an attractive elephant, a Burbank supermarket and wolves (animals can be very stupid – which is why we love them.). They shot on top of trucks and rooftops, made rain, turned a head into a flowerpot and flashed boobs publicly, often.

be-stupid2.jpg

Be Stupid calls out to each and every one of us. It’s the key to successful living. It’s about following your heart and not your head. You can’t outsmart stupid – so don’t try. Long live stupid.

DIESEL MANIFESTO

Youth are like balloons. They are filled with hopes and dreams that anything is possible but…In time a single sentence begins to creep into their lives, more and more.

be-stupid35.jpg

Don’t be stupid! It’s the crusher of possibilities, it’s the assassin of dreams, it’s the world great deflator. The world is full of smart people. Doing all kind of smart things with other smart people. That’s smart but…We are with stupid!

 be-stupid19.jpg

The stupid are the only ones carrying the banner of interesting.

be-stupid23.jpg

Stupid is the relentless pursuit of a regret-free life.

Smart may have the brains…but stupid has the balls.

be-stupid31.jpg

Smart may have the plans…but stupid has the stories.

be-stupid6.jpg

Smart may have the authority…but stupid has one hell of a hangover.

It’s not smart to take risks. It’s stupid.

Smart had one good idea…and that idea was stupid.

To be stupid is to be brave, when you risk something, that’s stupid.

The stupid aren’t afraid to fail. Why? Because they’re stupid!

be-stupid15.jpg

We think that you are probably pretty stupid too.

Smart critiques, stupid creates. Stupid is the one ignoring chorus…of don’ts, can’ts, and won’ts and comes up with something wholly and completely unique. A unique way to fail perhaps, but at least it’s something.

be-stupid21.jpg

The stupid are the only ones brave enough to do what no one in their right mind would do. Because the stupid know there are worse things than failure…like not even trying. The stupid, they’re all we’ve got. The fact is, if we didn’t have stupid thoughts, we’d have no interesting thoughts at all.

be-stupid5.jpg

Be stupid.

What we’re talking about isn’t a tag line. What we’re talking about is a call to arms. Stupid ain’t dumb, stupid is something deliciously greater. Put another way, only the stupid can be truly brilliant.

Renzo Rosso is stupid.

Stupid is motoring around in your Ford transit and visiting after shop owner after shop owner, trying to sell your brand new denim made to look worn. “It’s a sign of innovation. When you are already doing the things nobody even thinks about”. That’s a very stupid quote. Mister Rosso. Respect.

To be stupid is damn hard work. You know the odds are against you and sometimes you will fail, and spectacularly so.

Stupid means listening to your heart versus listening to your head. Listening to your heart is hard: your heart says yes, your head says no. Your head almost always says no. The smart quickly recognize things for how they are.

be-stupid37.jpg be-stupid26.jpg

The stupid see things for how they could be. You can’t outsmart stupid so don’t even try. Long live stupid.

 be-stupid16.jpg

In the Philippines, Diesel is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and is available at Greenbelt 3, Power Plant Mall, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, and Robinson’s Place Manila.
