The Kitchen Salvatore Cuomo

By | Foodie, Travel | No Comments

It was nice to take a break from all the Chinese food and have some Italian! The location was so nice – it was by the river and then on the other side is the cityscape.  There are other restaurants on this street but this was recommended to us by Tito Robbie and Tita Helen

p1180239.JPGp1180270.JPGp1180242.JPGp1180238.jpgp1180237.JPGp1180253.JPGp1180245.JPGp1180258.JPG

The kitchen is open without any glass walls

p1180248.JPGp1180261.JPGp1180249.JPGp1180262.JPGp1180278.JPGp1180279.JPG

They had the business lunch set and I was the only one who had it and I thought the price was reasonable considering everything it came with compared to the ala carte wherein one dish was almost equivalent to the whole business meal.

p1180263.JPG

I got the Rosmarino.  You have to choose one from the selection.  I cannot finish really the whole meal, it’s a good thing everyone helps 🙂

Everyone else ordered ala carte….

This was a foie Gras antipasto!  YUMMY!!! Scallops on the other side of the plate

Whampoa Club at 3 On the Bund

By | Foodie, Travel | No Comments

We enjoyed our dinner at Wuampoa Club which was recommended by Tito Robbie and Tita Helen at 3 on the Bund.

My dream is to have one of their degustation meals.  I love small portions and having a little of everything at a reasonable pace so you can enjoy the ambience, the conversation, the company and the food of course.

dsc_1232.jpgdsc_1234.jpgdsc_1255.JPGdsc_1287.JPGdsc_1235.JPGdsc_1236.JPGdsc_1238.JPGdsc_1285.JPGdsc_1282.jpgdsc_1239.JPGdsc_1240.JPG

We ordered ala carte.  I noticed in China, they don’t have portion sizes in the menu and the dishes come in small portions.  Not like in the Philippines where they have sizes that can feed a whole table.

This trip, I made sure i ordered something that we do not always order- I made it a point to order a different dish everytime we ate out rather than having always the usual Chinese dishes we order.  This was mine 🙂

dsc_1243.JPGdsc_1266.JPGdsc_1244.JPGdsc_1274.JPGdsc_1273.JPGdsc_1245.JPGdsc_1256.JPG

and I also chose this prawn dish.  I normally like ordering the prawn salad which has mayonnaise on it, this one was a wasabi  dressing which was a much better alternative. Miam Miam!

As soon as we arrived in Shanghai, we had our lunch which was right across the hotel.  Of course my three boys were excited because it was their favorite Xiao Long Bao and they loved it!! We all loved it!

And after this, they came back everyday whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch or snack.  The family came back three times in the 4 days we were in Shanghai!  🙂  This restaurant is found in other countries in the world like Hong Kong, Japan, USA and others.  We heard it is coming to the Philippines soon!

You need your black vinegar for the Xiao Long Bao ( Soup dumplings )

p1170928.JPGp1170925.jpg

There are many things in the menu but this is the main reason and the main thing we order in the restaurant

p1170893.jpgp1170894.JPG

Highly recommended kind since it has CRAB!

p1170895.JPG

Look at that!!!!  We have tried many Xiao long baos and the good ones and the one made well are the ones that can retain the soup inside.   YUMMY!!!

So when in Xian, maybe best to stick to the restaurants in the hotel ( Renmin Square Hotels ) 🙂  Unless you have other recommendations from friends.  We enjoyed our meals here

p1170801.jpgp1170802.JPGp1170803.JPGp1170805.JPGp1170807.JPG

The kids love the dimsum, they can eat many siomai and dumplings 🙂

p1170809.JPGp1170818.JPGp1170820.JPGp1170821.JPGp1170853.jpgp1170854.JPG

They had Beijing duck instead of Peking duck which is not the crispy type

p1170835.JPGp1170837.JPG

This was something new to see, they had a warmer for the wrapped duck

p1170841.JPG

They use a different wrapper

p1170842.JPGp1170849.JPG

Second way of the duck and they only served the breast part, it was really good

p1170851.JPG

And they make an effort for presentation which is not always at Chinese restaurants, so Heart2Heart likes it 🙂

Eating in Xian

By | Foodie, Travel | No Comments

We were not able to get any restaurant recommendations for Xian…so we just asked the concierge and the tour guide where to go.  The Chinese food was okay but not spectacular, maybe also because we did not know what to order also.

This restaurant was near the hotel.  They had a wide variety to choose from but we stuck to the basic Chinese food we normally order like Roast duck, sweet and sour pork, siomai

dsc_0977.JPGdsc_0979.JPGdsc_0980.JPGdsc_0981.JPGdsc_0983.JPGdsc_0984.JPGdsc_0987.JPGdsc_0991.JPGdsc_0992.JPGdsc_0995.JPGdsc_0996.JPGdsc_0998.JPGdsc_0999.JPGdsc_1000.JPG

We did not know what this was, but it looked interesting so i took photos 🙂

dsc_1007.JPGdsc_1008.JPGdsc_1009.JPG

This was a restaurant near the Terra-cotta warriors.  It seemed like all the tourists and tour groups were going here.  It was a big place!  But we did not really like the food and it took some time for the food to come out.  We also had a hard time communicating with the servers.  I think that the tour groups that come here reserve in advance and have a set meal whereas we just walked in and tried to order from the menu

dsc_1080.JPGdsc_1083.JPGdsc_1085.JPG

I actually liked this – chinese french fries 🙂

dsc_1086.JPG

This was a chicken dish which I also liked

dsc_1087.JPGdsc_1089.JPGdsc_1090.JPGdsc_1091.JPGdsc_1093.JPGdsc_1094.JPG

Oh my gosh!!!!! KFC!!!! by the Terracotta soldiers! Our savior! 🙂

Breakfast Buffet at Sofitel

By | Foodie, Travel | 2 Comments

When travelling, this is one of Heart2Heart’s favorites.  Just like a bath tub, we can only have breakfast buffets and tub baths when staying in hotels. Wherelse can you wake up to a breakfast buffet?:-)   We came already late so the buffet was almost closed, which explains why it’s a bit messy already and little food left in containers.  It’s a good thing I was able to take photos still and we were able to eat a bit.  It’s not included in the room, only kids eat for free.  But they did not charge us anyway, maybe because we came so late already.

By | Foodie, What's New at Power Plant Mall | One Comment

We watched a movie at Power Plant Mall and had dinner after at Lu which we truly enjoyed! We were only two so we were not able to order many dishes to share – so definitely we will be back to try the rest!

 p1170430-1.jpg

The owners were there, Kris and Luis!  Thanks Chessie for introducing us.  It’s always nice to see owners in their restaurants, it’s the only way for the business to succeed because you know the owners are on top of things

Dinner by Tita Ludette

By | Foodie | No Comments

Tita Ludette is always so thoughtful and always checks on Dad.  Again she invited Dad over for dinner and she of course cooked a wonderful meal for us. Miam Miam!! ( Yummy in French ) 🙂  She told James and I that we did not have to come as they were all “senior citizens” and we might get bored…apparently not!  We enjoyed our time with Tita Ludette who is always very entertaining and enjoyed listening to their conversation and learning from them 🙂  Thanks Tita for watching over Dad
