Mike’s Sunday Lunch

By | Foodie, Mother's Day | One Comment

In our family, no one escapes his or her turn in hosting Sunday family lunch.   So, our eldest brother, Mike, also takes his turn in hosting.  Though we were not complete, today was still a special lunch because it was Mother’s Day ……

 dsc_6760.JPG

and Mike did prepare something special and unique…he covered the whole table with banana leaves and put the food on top!  Everything was grilled or “inihaw” – fish, chicken, pork and eggplant with beef

dsc_6745_2.JPG

There was garlic rice wrapped in banana leaves

dsc_6754.JPG

We were all supposed to eat with our hands “kamayan” style..but since we were not used to it, we still asked for plates and spoon and fork! Here is Mike enjoying his rice eating with his hands…but why does he still have a fork and spoon?  🙂

Here are the other dishes we have had from other Sunday lunches of Mike.  Mostly Filipino dishes and with lots of vegetables

You’re probably wondering where all the good food comes from….Apparently, Mike is lucky that someone special prepares all the food during his turn 🙂

Culinary Team Pilipinas 2009 – Final Practice

By | Events and Launches, Foodie | 2 Comments

Thanks Jay for inviting me to witness a great culinary experience!  I truly enjoyed and appreciated it.

Heart2Heart is so proud to feature the Culinary Team Pilipinas ( Les Toque Blanches Culinary Team Pilipinas 2009 – April 13, 2009) who will represent our country this May 9 in Hong Kong at the Gourmet Team Challenge Competition.   This is another proof that Filipinos are very creative and very talented.  And thanks to the vision and hard work of Les Toque Blanches, they managed to get sponsors to support them to be able to compete internationally.

GOOD LUCK to the Philippine team!!!  We are so proud of you!!12af831e93_ltbheader.jpg

Two years ago when they first joined, the team won as Champions.  In between 2007 and now, they have joined 15 competitions and won 14 out of the 15. They will be a team of 14 going to Hong Kong bringing with them 500 plus kilos of equipment for the set up.  They will be using the Hong Kong Disneyland kitchen as their commissary to prepare and will be buying all their ingredients fresh from Hong Kong. ltbculinary-team-filipinaswebsite.jpg

I asked Jay if I could come early to take them in action.  Apparently, they have been preparing for 24 hours already and they were just doing the last minute touches and set up.  This is already their 5th and final practice

Before opening the doors, the whole team gathers and scrutinizes their work…It is a serious matter! les-toque-blanch-8.jpg

Jay always stresses to me that it is a TEAM EFFORT and everyone contributes in coming up with their finished product

Peking Garden – Trinoma

By | Foodie | 9 Comments

For some reason, Mom was craving for Peking duck from Peking Garden, so we had to go all the way to Trinoma since the Peking Garden in Glorietta closed down….

dsc_4258.JPGpekinggardencover.jpgdsc_4261.JPG

And of course it is worth it!!!

Deep Fried Shredded beef with Chili- my favorite! It is crispy shredded beef -on the sweet side

You have an option to order the sesame seed bun and put the beef inside

Don Eduardo’s

By | Foodie | 5 Comments

James and I went to try out the new restaurant of my Lola which recently opened.  She named it after her husband, my Lolo Eddie. I used to live with him when I was a kid and he was my number one listener as he listened to all my corny jokes and weird stories which I invented 🙂 I miss him! So of course I made sure we went to try it and definitely will be back!!

My dad and my brother are named after my Lolo, so there are actually 3 Eduardos in the family.

I hope you can go and try out Don Eduardo’s.   It is located in the old Mezzalunadsc_9200.JPG

Since we were only two, we were not able to order so much.

Pizza Con Prosciutto was really YUMMY!!!! I love thin crust pizza- see how thin it is

Pasta Marinara – also very good!

Margie’s Birthday Lunch

By | Celebrations, Foodie | 6 Comments

One of the reasons I put up Heart2Heart was because I wanted to share with everyone many, many beautiful moments and things in life.  There are so many times when I get so excited,  I want to tell everyone about the wonderful event I attended or describe the delicious meal I had….and if only I could bring everyone to join and partake of these wonderful moments.. I WOULD! So, thanks to Heart2Heart for helping me vent out my excitement! 🙂 by letting me share them with not only family and friends but to many others who may appreciate them like I do

My friend Margie

dsc_3835.JPG

invited me over for lunch in her lovely home.

margiesbirthday-unch-3.jpgmargiesbirthday-unch-5.jpgdsc_3871.JPG margiesbirthday-unch-7.jpg

She told me she had asked 20 of her girlfriends over to celebrate her birthday….Whew!  I am so honored and lucky to have made the cut!  🙂 Thank you Margie for inviting me and for making me a part of your special day!

margiesbirthday-unch-8.jpgmargiesbirthday-unch-9.jpgmargiebdaylunch10.jpggigidenisemargiebday.jpgmargiesbirthday-unch-11.jpg

I enjoy Margie because she always makes me laugh!  She was my bootcamp classmate for two years and now we just bump into each other in Rustan’s, food markets, or in the gym.

margiesbirthday-unch-26.jpg

My best best meals are those that are homemade specially by family and friends. I would choose home cooked meals over restaurant food any day! I truly truly appreciate the gesture of them being proud of their talent and sharing it.  Not only the cooking part but the preparation of everything in having a meal in your own home…

margiesbirthday-unch-12.jpgmargiesbirthday-unch-13.jpgmargiesbirthday-unch-14.jpg

Margie not only makes the PAELLA OF THE CENTURY but she cooks many other good dishes as well.  For her birthday celebration, she made Thai food and wow! I loved it!!  She made everything from scratch (except dessert).  Everyone of course was also raving…though many of the ladies already tried Margie’s cooking, they continue to rave and rave about her cooking…
