Ukokkei Ramen Ron

By | Foodie | 5 Comments

We discovered this place last year while driving down Arnaiz Avenue. Though Ramen is not my type, it is definitely the type of my three boys!

They are so strict that they do not allow you to take home their ramen probably for fear that you will not like the ramen when it is not freshly served.

Definitely a MUST TRY for RAMEN eaters!

There is a giant ramen decor in the restaurant 🙂

Rai Rai Ken Ramen House and Sushi Bar

By | Foodie | 5 Comments

This is one of the favorite restaurant of the kids.  Good thing it is very near the house. Very good japanese food at reasonable prices!

Most of the time we bump into the owner, Vince, who is a gradeschool friend of James.  Vince and his wife, Chelle, got this franchise.  They are very hands on and are often in the restaurant running the day to day operations.

Jaime’s favorite dish – RAMEN!! and it has to be SPICY!

I liked this tofu dish the waitress recommended to me.  It is sizzling, a bit sweet and spicy.  I do not really like spicy but this was bearable.  I ate it with rice. YUMMY!

rai-rai-ken-11.jpg

Ramen places always have gyoza!

rai-rai-ken-12.jpg

Gyudon!! Kids favorite especially Javier.  Better without the egg yolk for health reasons

rai-rai-ken-13.jpg

Tonkatsu Curry!!! YUMMY!!! They do it so well.  It is just like the ones in Japan!!

rai-rai-ken-14.jpg

They also cater at very very reasonable prices! P185.00 per person for Japanese food? Wow!

Gastronomic Boredom

By | Foodie | One Comment

I was given a choice to eat wherever I want, so I chose one of my favorites, Pepato ( Nov. 25, 2008 ).

When I go back to a restaurant I have been to already, I promised myself that I will not order the same thing again and again.  I will make sure that I have a new experience and try other things on the menu.  Mireille Guiliano ( French Women Don’t Get Fat January 21, 2009  ) said that “Gastronomic boredom leads to lots of unhealthy eating.  If you don’t make improvisation and experimentation a part of your eating life, you are sure to find yourself in an eating rut.  It’s as bad as a romantic rut – losing that spark-and just as likely to get you in trouble!”

So, I did not order my favorite foie gras dish ( August 16, 2007)!  But I discovered other wonderful dishes!

Just their first complimentary dish excites me already….They normally give you a bite from their appetizers menu- I do not know what this is called but it reminded me of a mini Mille Feuille but salty not sweet.  I loved it!

I really like the tasting portions in Pepato – Raviolini, chicken liver pate sage butter.  It follows very much the concept of Mireille G.

CYMA, Boracay

By | Foodie, Travel | One Comment

Thanks to Gerard, Tessa, Gary, Alexie, Kirby and Mara for inviting us for dinner.  This is our first time to eat in Cyma in Boracay.  We actually got to try the Shangri-la Plaza Mall branch first and we really liked it.

Don’t leave Boracay without eating here!  Last November we were able to have it as part of the buffet from Jigger and May’s dinner.  It was also very good!!

p1070885.JPGdsc_5114.JPGdsc_5115.JPGdsc_5127.JPGdsc_5128.JPGdsc_5126.JPGdsc_5116.JPGdsc_5117.JPG

I ordered the Saganaki!  I like to hear them shout Opa!  🙂 and of course I like the CHEESE!!! In Manila, the kids like it too and they call the dish Opa ( not Saganaki)! Here in Boracay, the guy serving it is muscular 🙂 and fits the part so well….

Make sure to put the lemon

dsc_5139.JPGdsc_5140.JPG

It is a popular dish because during dinner we heard it about 6 times and I would get “gulat” everytime 🙂 dsc_5151.JPG
