Las Paellas

By | Foodie | No Comments

Thanks to my friend, Janet for treating me to Las Paellas, one of their family’s favorite places. Ned followed after awhile and joined us.  Mon, the owner,  was there.  I told him to open in Makati so I can try more things on his menu!  🙂

It was a nice cozy restaurant across Starbucks in President’s Avenue, BF Paranque.  I was surprised to see such an extensive menu.  They do not serve only paellas but many many more.     Mon’s wife designed and made the menu. dsc_2607.JPG

Ned’s order….Mini Tacos. Baked Eggplant and vietnamese spring rolls – Janet’s favorites

Hossein

By | Foodie | No Comments

One advantage of being the birthday celebrant is that you get to choose the restaurant to go to!  So of course,  my all time favorite is Persian Kebab.  And for the first time, we get to try the newest branch in Serendra.  And it was so nice to see Mr. Hossein there!  I was able to introduce my dad and mom finally to him.  Hossein’s is opening a 4th branch in Greenbelt 3 which I promised I would visit.  He says it is even nicer than Serendra.    hosseins1.jpghosseins2.jpgMr. Hossein remembers James and I even when we were still dating which was around 20 years ago.We would go once a week for many years.  Mr. Hossein was surprised to see our two sons the eldest being 12 years old already.  hosseins3.jpghosseins4.jpghosseins5.jpghosseins6.jpgOn the second floor of his restaurant is a place for private functions.  hosseins7.jpghosseins8.jpgAnother private room downstairs for a smaller grouphosseins9.jpgThe restroomhosseins10.jpgGarlic bread and Toasted Papad.  The best dips – Misa Kasemi, Hummus and Motabal ( not in photo).  Order them all! They are the BEST!hosseins11.jpgI always order the fried rice ( bottom right )hosseins12.jpghosseins13.jpgYou have to try the Roulette kebab ( first photo on top )- I only tried this here and it is so good.  Even Dad liked it.  It is a kebab that has beef, prawn and chicken- YUMMY!hosseins14.jpgLAMB RIBS!!! THE BEST!! M. Jun Jun made sure we ordered this.  Then Dad ordered another order after.  hosseins15.jpg  More power to you Mr. Hossein!  We love you and your restaurant!

Hai Shin Lou

By | Foodie | One Comment

I have never been to Hai Shin Lou before but they say it is newly renovated. This has been Dad’s craving for the past weeks.  After having the “pitik pitik”  in Victoria City Seafood Restaurant, Dad has been wanting to eat it over and over.  They have it here in the Philippines and bigger in size, though the one in Victoria’s is still different, this is a good alternative.  And Hiro was right, it is called Sea Mantis.  I would recommend the fresh seafood from Hai Shin Lou.hai-shin-lou-book1.jpghai-shin-lou-book2.jpgLook for Ben, the manager……hai-shin-lou-book3.jpghai-shin-lou-book4.jpghai-shin-lou-book5.jpgThe Sea Mantis – fresh from the tankhai-shin-lou-book6.jpg  hai-shin-lou0001.jpghai-shin-lou0002.jpg

Thanks to Cecile Zamora Van Straten for inviting us to their new restaurant.  Another STEAK CONCEPT!    We enjoyed the whole experience.  Once again, the Japanese have not failed us.

It was nice meeting the husband of Cecile, Jeroen.  Jeroen is Dutch and is the General Manager of Dome Cafe.  And now owns and operates Pepper Lunch with Cecile.

Meat Plus

By | Foodie, Travel | 3 Comments

In 1992, during the height of duty free shopping in Subic,  Meat Plus was selling only frozen steaks.    In 1994, they added toys to their line up.  Then in 1996, Tita Apples had the idea of grilling the steaks for the customers.  She started off with just a home griller and a rice cooker.  They charged $ 1.00 as a cooking charge.  In the year 2000, they opened TENDER BOBS in Manila which is also a steak place but a bit more upscale.  They now have 3 locations.  In 2008, they are still in Subic and doing very well!  They must be doing something right.

We always pass by Meat plus but never get to eat there because it is always full.  I guess it is full because it is good food at a very reasonable price.  Value for money.  But this trip, we decided to use our connections and make a reservation with one of the owners, Tita Apples.  And Thanks to Tito Paquito and Tita Pinky ( owners also ) who were there that day for watching over us and for making sure we had their yummy dessert. We enjoyed our lunch!  meat-plus-book1.jpg

Notice how full the place is.  Even the take out counter has long lines! Tito Paquito said that during weekends it is always full but they are noticing now that even weekdays, it is also getting full.  Steaks are really the “in” thing now but at MEAT PLUS, it started many years ago.meat-plus-book2.jpgmeat-plus-book3.jpg

You can buy your steak and have it cooked.meat-plus-book4.jpg

This was the rib eye. Very good!!meat-plus-book5.jpgmeat-plus-book7.jpgmeat-plus-book6.jpgmeat-plus-book8.jpg

We asked the waiter for a recommendation and he said that the MEAT PLUS Burger was the bestseller.  So almost everyone ordered this.  It was a very simple looking burger but it was really good.  And for the price of P 110.00  ONLY!  It is a double burger with cheese in the middle! YUMMY!!!  You can just line up and take this out if you prefer to take it home.   It also has a meal which comes with drinks and french fries for P 160.00.   meat-plus-book9.jpgmeat-plus-book10.jpgmeat-plus-book11.jpgmeat-plus-book12.jpgmeat-plus-book13.jpgThe desserts were really good!!!!!!!! Make sure to order it ala mode. The ice cream was so good, I forgot to ask what it was.  The Mango caramel!!!! Yum! and the Apple pie ala mode!  meat-plus-book14.jpgmeat-plus-book15.jpgmeat-plus-book17.jpgmeat-plus-book18.jpgmeat-plus-book19.jpg

A Tavola is one of the restaurants we go to when in Subic.  They have good Italian food especially their wood fire over pizzas.  So do try it when in Subic.
