Buffet by Alba

By | Foodie | No Comments

Last month we ate in Alba’s and was surprised to see they had a buffet for P 550.00.  We were five in the group and we all had the buffet.  It included almost all the bestsellers plus more.  When we eat Spanish food we like doing it family style but when you are in a small group, buffet would be good because you can have a wide variety to choose from. I thought it was a great deal and the food was very good.753194679503_0_bg.jpg

Appetizers/Tapas 263194679503_0_bg.jpg

The dips were good and the assorted chorizos..yum yum!   463194679503_0_bg.jpg663194679503_0_bg.jpgCochinillo and Crispy Pata- very popular!  When I am about to take a picture, the food disappears so fast.   863194679503_0_bg.jpg573194679503_0_bg.jpg

All the chafing dishes were always being refilled as turnover was very fast…..773194679503_0_bg.jpg

And of course the paella!

The paella also goes so fast so I think i went back to the buffet table like 3 or 4 times to keep checking for a better photo opportunity.  It was so hard. 973194679503_0_bg.jpg

The desserts were also very good!!! The crepes samurai was different because the top was like the top of a creme brulee.  It was really good. The canonigo! yum yum!  I was lucky to get a photo because I took the photo while everyone was still eating their main- but everything in that dessert buffet disappeared after awhile.283194679503_0_bg.jpg953194679503_0_bg.jpgalba0017.jpgalba0018.jpgalba0019.jpgalba0020.jpgalba0021.jpgalba0023.jpg

Arya Persian Restaurant

By | Foodie | 6 Comments

Thanks to Bulgin and Lils for telling us about this place!!  If only it were not so far away from Makati…we would be here more often.  Whenever there is a Persian restaurant, I always want to try. Thanks to my regular eating partner, Brenda, we had lunch here a few weeks ago.  Yummy!672543369503_0_bg.jpg892543369503_0_bg.jpg982543369503_0_bg.jpg582543369503_0_bg.jpg 102753369503_0_bg.jpg602753369503_0_bg.jpgdsc_8885.JPGdsc_8887.JPGdsc_8888.JPGdsc_8890.JPGWow! I am so glad they had this dish that had a mixture of all the dips.  We got to try all – tatziki, hummus, motabal and misa kazemi. Goes well with any bread- pita, naan, toasted papad, etc. or with the kebabs. And then there is the 2 kinds of sauce on top of the table – Garlic sauce and a tomato based sauce which is spicy. 212753369503_0_bg.jpg Of course, the true test is always the kebabs!  We had the lamb and the beef.  And it was really good!  And not to forget the homemade french fries to go with it.  The rice was interesting because the plain rice was mixed with yellow rice on top.612753369503_0_bg.jpg812753369503_0_bg.jpg
And this was something we have never seen and tried before.  The waiter got our grilled tomato from the platter and started removing the skin then he added salt and pepper and the yummy garlic sauce that comes on the table. Add a little of the spicy tomato sauce for a little spice or more if you want it spicy.   After which he mashed the tomatoes and then it becomes like a sauce.  He said to eat it with the kebabs!!!! YUMMY!!! If you have a good garlic sauce you can make – then you can make this at home easily also.  For me, a good garlic sauce is also secret to good kebabs! And they usually come on the table already and you can put as much as you like.872543369503_0_bg.jpg

Summer Sunday Lunch

By | Foodie, Summer | 4 Comments

Every Sunday, we take turns hosting the de Jesus Sunday lunch.  It was our turn to host and I was panicking because my cook was on leave.  It was so timely that my Mom came to the rescue and decided to host the lunch at her place without me asking.  Whew!  I am so lucky I have my Mom!  And as usual, Mom is ready for summer with her floral theme!

Even the household staff had floral aprons to wear!

The de Jesus family was not complete but we were able to invite Tita Isabel, Beno and Isa to join us who are really part of the family anyway.

We had our main course outside in the garden in the middle of the summer heat….sunday-lunch-book6.jpgsunday-lunch-book9.jpgsunday-lunch-book10.jpg

Then dessert indoors…. Thanks to Isa for bringing all the fresh fruits and her home made Tiramisu and Ice Box cake. Yummy!!  We will be inviting you more often!!! 🙂

Cafe Mediterannean

By | Foodie, What's New at Power Plant Mall | No Comments

One of our favorite restaurants!  We just love kebabs!  The Powerplant location is the best – it is convenient, located beside Rustan’s Supermarket and a cozy ambience.

Thanks Rins for joining me for lunch.  we always order the same thing, so I made Rina try the kebabs.  These are the Grilled Chicken and Grilled Beef kebabs which you can have with either pita bread, rice or couscous.

Make sure to eat it with the garlic sauce ( white sauce ) which comes in a squeeze bottle on your table.   with french fries?? Yup! If you want to put it inside the shawarma you will be making with the pita bread or just have it on the side.  Do not forget the garlic sauce again to dip the fries into together with the catsup!

Cheese Presentation

By | Cheese, Foodie, Household Tips | No Comments

What a nice presentation for cheese by Frieda Lim.  I saw it and asked her if Heart2Heart could share it.

This is a cream cheese boursin spread which she molded into a bowl. Before you put the spread, arrange some fresh herbs to the bottom of the bowl. Unmold to serving plate and add more herbs around. Try it!

Nadaman

By | Foodie, Travel | 8 Comments

One of the best memories of the trip ( of course it had to be food related )…Nadaman at Island Shangri-la Hotel Hong Kong.

264104049503_0_bg.jpg154104049503_0_bg.jpg

Though we go mainly for the TEPPANYAKI444104049503_0_bg.jpg

Meet Dad and Mom’s friends, Chef Mok and Dickson.  They have been there ever since we started going to Nadaman……maybe around 20 years ago or even more.  Make sure you look for Chef Mok to do your Teppanyaki!

387983049503_0_bg.jpg

Wow!  Look at that gigantic and FRESH Japanese tomato!!! What a presentation and so delicious! You dip it in a japanese sauce and some salt.318983049503_0_bg.jpg354104049503_0_bg.jpg554104049503_0_bg.jpg754104049503_0_bg.jpg

This was the Japanese Wagyu, the real thing, cooked in charcoal grill. WOW! really just melts in your mouth.   The grill was an interesting piece.  Perfect size for the dining table.  954104049503_0_bg.jpg

That was day 1 when there was no space in the Teppanyaki tables…so we made sure we went back!

Three kinds of mushrooms138983049503_0_bg.jpg

Seafood teppanyaki587983049503_0_bg.jpg

Usuyaki- rolled beef338983049503_0_bg.jpg

AND THE UNAGI!!!!! This is one of the BEST teppanyaki unagis ( eel ) ever! Chef Mok has a certain way of cooking it that it is so crispy and really really good!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!  Showing the step by step way of how he cooked it…197983049503_0_bg.jpg397983049503_0_bg.jpg597983049503_0_bg.jpg

And this was Heart2Hearts main dish!  WOW!!!! Really delicious!!!Rolled beef with foie gras and mushroom inside. Just this with white rice is yum yum!!!!! Chef Mok has a certain way of cooking the foie gras also that makes it so so good.  It deserves a step by step documentation as well!  If someone else can make this, give Heart2Heart a call!  🙂208983049503_0_bg.jpg408983049503_0_bg.jpg608983049503_0_bg.jpg118983049503_0_bg.jpg518983049503_0_bg.jpg

Then he poured this sauce on the teppanyaki grill……the sauce was really really good!228983049503_0_bg.jpg628983049503_0_bg.jpg

And the Grand Finale!!!

Japanese Wagyu ( top ) and Australian Kobe Beef ( bottom )- what will be documented is the Wagyu which is the more premium beef…538983049503_0_bg.jpg

He even has a way of cutting the beef…..938983049503_0_bg-1.jpg

Cooking the beef on top of its fat!!!!

244104049503_0_bg-1.jpg

WOW!! WHAT A MEAL!!!!!!!!

But aside from the food really, is also the company.  It is during meals only that the whole group or family gets together.  So, it is fun!  I can’t imagine going alone to Nadaman and having my favorite dish!  It would not taste the same 🙂
