By | Foodie, Travel | 2 Comments

Make sure to pass by Bistro Ikea even to just get a snack!  Only because you just have to have your cheapest meal in Hong Kong!  Maybe not even in Manila you can have snacks as cheap as this……and it is YUMMY!! Definitely VALUE FOR MONEY!

San San Trois

By | Foodie, Travel | 2 Comments

Thanks to our friend Mykie who introduced us to this restaurant many years ago.  From that time on, we have been going here, most especially Dad and Mom.  It is Japanese French fusion. Anything Japanese, my parents love…  Dad of course is excited to introduce us to another friend of his in Hong Kong, the Chef of San San Trois.  We only go on special occasions….and that is when we are in Hong Kong and only because dad and mom are treating 🙂

One of the family’s favorites in Hong Kong.  They are known for fresh seafoods.  And we love their Xiao long bao.  We just arrived in HK and Dad and Mom took us here.  Dad introduced us to one of his HK friends, Eddie, the waiter, whom I forgot to take a photo of.  Dad kept reminding me to take his photo, I guess i was too busy eating!!  🙂

Crispy small fish appetizer which Javier liked so much, Eddie gave him one doggie bag to bring home filled with this

Xiao Long Bao, they sometimes have Shanghai crab as the filling when it is in season and it is really special.  This is one of the best we have tried after Joe Shanghai’s in New York!

Fresh “pitik pitik” ( we do not know the name in English )  still alive- being shown to us in a pail

then cooked…. really very FRESH and very sweet!

Eddie teaching us how to open and cut it… Cut the sides on both ends…

I have not been to Sango for quite some time now and was happy to take my Mom to try it.  They have many new items on the menu and they have a new branch in Ortigas ( Pearl Plaza Pearl Drive ) already for those in that area, now is your chance to try it.

Bulan

By | Foodie, Shopping | No Comments

FINALLY!!!! After 3 failed attempts to have dinner with the group, we finally got to have dinner together.

Newts and Michelle chose our dinner venue…something new and different. Though maybe we will not go all the way back there to have another meal, we enjoy trying and seeing new places and concepts.  Whenever my family and friends ask where to go to eat, my suggestion is always ” anywhere, as long as it is something new that we have not tried yet.”  There are so many places to go to..and many restaurants to try…

Bulan, which means “moon” in several languages, is owned by Marlene Aguilar, sister of Freddie Aguilar.

She publishes books and she owns Bulan which is a restaurant and a furniture store.

She rented the house from the owners of Jo Liza in Little Baguio, San Juan.  All the paintings, furniture, decors, tables, chairs are for sale.

The restroom:

Though the interiors are Asian inspired, the food is European.  I particularly liked the Paulie’s steak which was steak with gorgonzola cheese and the pasta with three kinds of mushrooms, Crystal’s Flambe that I ordered. Portions are small for most but perfect for me:

There is a second floor where there are more items for sale.  You can also have a private affair in the second floor.

The bathroom on the 2nd floor:

Beautiful antique chafing dishes from India which are for sale at P 50,000 each:

Zao

By | Foodie | No Comments

We had one of our family dinners last year at Zao.  Food is okay, portions a bit small.  Popular dishes were the caramelized prawns, pomelo salad,  barbeque and grilled beef tenderloin.

Ilustrado

By | Foodie | One Comment

We ate in Ilustrado last January as we were preparing for our tour with Carlos Celdran.  Father Galende of San Agustin Church says it is still the BEST restaurant in the area.   I would also recommend the place of my friend, Suzette Montinola, La Cocina de Tia Moning.  406189578503_0_bg.jpg 606189578503_0_bg.jpg  806189578503_0_bg.jpg316189578503_0_bg.jpg 516189578503_0_alb.jpg 716189578503_0_bg.jpg 916189578503_0_bg.jpg426189578503_0_bg.jpg 626189578503_0_bg.jpg  They had a cafe downstairs which had a different menu, so they let us order from both menus.236189578503_0_bg.jpg  246189578503_0_bg.jpg 446189578503_0_bg.jpg website:  http://www.ilustradorestaurant.com/
