Bistro Du Vin

By | Foodie | No Comments

Last week we went to try Bistro Du Vin at the Edades Tower and Garden Villas in Rockwell.  It’s a franchise from Singapore by the Moment Group.  They opened last November Bistro Du Vin (2)

Demystifying French food, often associated with fine dining and haute cuisine, has come the emergence of the neo-bistro, a comfort contemporary approach to dining stripped of the stuffiness, where one can enjoy excellent casual French fare in a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere. Capturing the essence of this refined style of both hearty and original cooking is Bistro du Vin (BDV).  Established in Singapore in 2009, and with outposts in Hong Kong as well, Bistro du Vin has since given its diners a truly authentic French bistro dining experience. Regarded as one, if not the most authentic French bistros in the region, Bistro du Vin now comes to Manila via the powerhouse partnership of Manila’s leading and dynamic F&B group, the Moment Group, and the multiple award-winning Les Amis Group of SingaporeBistro Du Vin (17)

Maintaining a true bistro vibe felt and seen in all the details, Bistro du Vin’s mood is exciting and bustling and the service always convivial. Here the excess is stripped away and one is left with barebones dining, at once refined yet casual, and making Bistro du Vin an excellent choice for both a casual meal and a special celebration.

At Bistro du Vin it’s out with the new and in with old school cool.

Bistro Du Vin (3)

All the items inside the restaurant are all from France 🙂Bistro Du Vin (15)

Paolo Quimson, the handsome 🙂  Restaurant Manager.  If you were a client at Martini’s ( Mandarin Oriental Manila ) you will know who he is.  He is also the nephew of the late Chef Ed Quimson.  Look for him when you visit BDVBistro Du Vin (2)

As the bistro’s name is “du vin” or “of the Wine”, BDV is clearly wine-centric and takes its wine selection seriously. The wine list is excellent and undoubtedly well curated, given that the Les Amis Group’s sister company, Vinum Fine Wines, is one of the most prestigious fine wine merchants in the Southeast Asian region. Diners of the bistro’s Manila outpost will enjoy both a comprehensive and alluring selection of French wines by the bottle, with labels unavailable elsewhere in town today. A range of wines by the glass, as well as by the carafe, will also be available that will undoubtedly delight Manila’s wine aficionados.

The Blackboard specials are original dished by the chefs of Bistro Du Vin Philippines Bistro Du Vin (13)

Of course the Raclette dish called my attention immediately!  Racket custard with jamon truffle  crumbs and crispsBistro Du Vin (16)

Parmesan Soup L’Ami Jean – YUM!  This has been on the blackboard since they opened because it is very popular!Bistro Du Vin (10)

Bistro Du Vin (12)

Bistro Du Vin (6)

Bistro du Vin focuses first and foremost on an array of real, honest-to-goodness, hearty traditional dishes from all across France.  They are prepared from traditional recipes with the philosophy of using only the freshest ingredients available but without the fuss and pomp usually associated with the “French fine dining” restaurant.

Bistro du Vin offers bona fide French bistro dishes with an impressive blackboard menu of seasonal specials that share the limelight with classic a la carte offerings of well-executed bistro fare such as the signature home-made charcuterie platters, Foie Gras  Poêle, Escargots baked in Garlic-Butter, Confit de Canard, Beef Cheeks in Red Wine, Steak Frites, Suckling Pig Confit, Grand Marnier Soufflé and much more.

There is the Big Boss at Restaurant 101, Chef Thomas waving 🙂  Market Menu at Enderun Created By Our Very Own Alumni Chefs (6)

So happy to see rockstar Chef Thomas Wenger last night!! Almost every year he invites me over and updates me on what he is doing at Restaurant 101 in Enderun. He is the Managing Director of Food and Beverage and a Senior Culinary Lecturer at Enderun. This guy is so accomplished yet he remains simple and humble! He is well respected in the food industry not only in the Philippines but all over the world by renowned chefs. I am so privileged to know him. He has been a chef for 30 years already! He is Swiss so he started in his own hometown, then later on moved and worked as Sous Chef in New York and Australia. He then moved to Hong Kong in 1991 as Sous Chef at The Excelsior, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and in 1992 moved to The Oriental in Singapore with the same Mandarin Oriental Group. In 1995 he came to the Philippines and was Executive Sous Chef at the Shangri-La Hotel Manila, moved again to Hong Kong in 1997 as Executive Chef of the prestigious Hong Kong Jockey Club and then in 2001 Executive Chef of the Le Royal Meridien Bangkok & Le Meridien President Bangkok. In 2003, he went back to the Philippines as Executive Chef at the Mandarin Oriental till 2008 and then moved to Enderun College. Chef Wenger also has a recruitment company and provides employment for chefs to many of the best hotels and restaurant. More power to you Chef and May you help many up and coming chefs become as good and talented as you areMarket Menu at Enderun Created By Our Very Own Alumni Chefs (7)

Chef Thomas was very excited to announce that the new market menu which will last for three weeks at Restaurant 101 was prepared by his chefs. Usually it is he who prepares the menu and they just follow. But this time, he let his chefs come up with the menu and prepare it. What great idea! Chef Thomas also told me that he likes hiring the graduates from Enderun so that he can help jumpstart their career and also so that the first entry in their resume will show that they worked in the school where they graduated from. ????

So come on over and try the new Market Menu ???? prepared by the Enderun Alumni. This will go on for about three weeks.   You can choose to have a 2 course for P 780.00 or a 3 course for P 980.00 or a 4 course for P 1,180.00.
