Today’s moms are faced with tough decisions especially in cases where their children are concerned. Recent studies reveal that there is divisiveness among moms when asked whether they would let their kids indulge in experiential learning or restrict their activities in favor of easing household chores.
Research in child development states that children remember 10% of what they read, 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see, and a staggering 90% of what they do. This study could not have been more accurate as 8 out 10 moms agree that the skills learned through play are irreplaceable by books, TVs and computers. In fact, 91% of these moms played outdoors when they were young and 96% of them say getting dirty was part of their childhood.
While mothers value these learning activities, they also cannot avoid worrying about dirt and stains. 7 out of 10 moms admit being annoyed when their kids go home with stains on their clothes. This is due to the fact that doing the laundry is their least liked task. 89% of mothers consider laundry as one of the two most disliked chores, and dealing with stained clothes doesn’t help change the statistics.
Two steps forward, one step back
A study conducted by the Ateneo de Manila University Fr. Jaime C. Bulatao, S.J. Center for Psychological Services reveals two main attitudes of mothers when it comes to child’s experiential learning – the sige moms and the pigil moms.
Sige moms are those who are practically open to all possibilities and means in which their kids can learn as much as they can about the world around them. They are hands-on moms who encourage their kids to engage in less structured activities even if it means getting dirty at the end of the day, which allows kids to explore freely and learn new things in the process.
Pigil moms, on the other hand, are more cautious and restrictive with the kind of activities their kids engage in. They constantly worry about the consequences of the children’s actions to the point of inhibiting their kids’ potentials that could otherwise be gained from playing.
Even though pigil moms are often viewed on a bad light, they also have valid reasons for setting parameters on what their children can do. Safety and health issues are among the factors that trigger this attitude towards play, not to mention the amount of dirt and stains that kids bring with them after letting them live out their little fancies.

Raising kids is a breeze
It is still a mother’s prerogative to raise and guide her children in a way she sees proper. Moms will always do what is best for her kids, but they also need to strike a balance between being a loving, sige mom and a responsible, pigil parent who upholds her standards when it comes to cleanliness.
To help moms cross that bridge, Unilever, one of the world’s leading consumer goods companies, introduces Breeze with ActivBleach, the new household companion that will add a new meaning to laundry. Developed with moms with growing kids in mind, the global brand has established itself as a thought leader in child development all over the world through its “Getting Stains is Good” campaign.
The thought-provoking platform conducted a study to get a clear picture of Filipino moms’ attitudes toward stains in relation to how they raise their children. Breeze aptly fills in the gap, encouraging moms with its battlecry: Sige sa Mantsa! Because it is an unbeatable stain removal detergent, it takes away mom’s worry of removing tough stains. With Breeze, moms can say sige to life experiences and learning for her children.
Whichever side of the fence a mom wishes to belong in, her undivided love and care for her children should rule the day. Children only get to be young once in their lifetime, and to let them indulge in the joys of experiential learning is key to shaping their future.

For Spring 2013, Gap introduces a limited-edition collection for babyGap inspired by world famous author Beatrix Potter and her captivating children’s book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Drawing from Potter’s mischievous characters and magical adventures, the babyGap collection brings to life a modern interpretation of the enchanting world of Peter Rabbit through imaginative gifts for girls and boys from newborn to 24 months.
Since its creation in 1902, Potter’s classic tale of Peter Rabbit’s adventures in the English countryside has been beloved around the world by children and adults alike. In celebration of the book’s 110th anniversary, actress Emma Thompson wrote a sequel, The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit, which provided additional inspiration for the babyGap collection. Peter Rabbit books are published by Frederick Warne, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group.
“Peter Rabbit is a timeless character that generations of children have enjoyed, so we’re thrilled to offer a babyGap collection inspired by characters and scenes from the books,” said Lexi Tawes, Vice President of Merchandising for Gap North America. “We think babyGap customers will love the playful designs – from Peter Rabbit’s iconic blue sweater to the whimsical, bunny-inspired patterns – whether they’re looking for a special baby gift or the perfect addition to their own little one’s wardrobe.”
The collection, ranging in size from newborn to 24 months, is rooted in an assortment of soft knit graphic bodysuits, brightly colored denim, whimsical one-pieces and patterned dresses. Graphic one-piece bodysuits ground the collection, available for newborns starting from P695. For baby girls, highlights include colored and printed denim (P1650); billowing dresses and frilly tops (from P1450.). For boys, key styles also include colored denim (P1450); and one-piece oxfords (P1250).

I would like to share a statement made by Malou Lacson Pineda, Senior Vice President, Power Plant Mall Rockwell. We all know about the emails going around about incidents about Power Plant mall. It is however not true yet many have been forwarding and spreading the stories without verifying it’s truthfulness. Malou told me that all their restrooms have guards in the entrances so for sure they will notice and they have CCTV cameras in the hallways facing the entrances of the restrooms so if it did happen, the victms family could have easily asked them to view the tapes. I know also that Rockwell is very particular about safety. I love this ad they put in their development in the area
I hope this will once and for all stop the rumors. May I please ask you to forward this to all your friends and family so they will stop worrying
Thank you for concern on the safety of the Rockwell Community.
Rest assured that Rockwell’s Security Team has been consistently vigilant on the welfare of our neighbourhood and our valued patrons.
Please be informed however, that this is merely an urban legend that traces back to the early ‘90’s involving shopping malls abroad and no such instance has occurred within the Rockwell Center.
As a friend of Rockwell, I would like to request for you to share the following statement with your family and friends.
A Call for Responsible Use of Social Media
It has come to our attention that an old urban legend that began in the 90’s in the US about children being kidnapped and harassed inside malls have been circulating online. Recently, the Power Plant Mall became the new victim of this online hoax. Many have expressed concern over the alleged incident after the extent of “shares” made through e-mails and networking sites. Like the rest of the anxious public, we are alarmed by this malicious report, more so by the carelessness of sharing misleading and wrong information without any solid grounds.
We reiterate that the alleged kidnapping occurrence in shopping malls has been long-dubbed as a mere urban legend. It has been exposed on certain websites including snopes.com, an online site known for debunking unverified and unchecked claims.
See this link for reference: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/parental/kidnap.asp.
Besides businesses being dragged into the controversy, journalists also fell prey to this misleading information resulting from the failure to evaluate and verify facts.
See this link for reference: http://www.timesofisrael.com/urban-legend-broadcast-as-news-on-channel-10/.
We are all expected to be responsible users of social media and the internet by evaluating what we receive and consider to share or forward to family and friends. Yet so many have ended up being unwitting pawns of individuals who started to circulate this rumour locally but with clear malicious intent.
Even legitimate media reportage is vetted for factual content and even people in media are pilloried for erroneous information. Journalists and those we trust to deliver day-to-day information to us are expected to observe control and responsibility over what they write and propagate. Each of us is liable for our own actions, even in cyberspace.
Thank you very much for your appreciation.
Sincerely,
Malou

I love my family!!! We find every reason to celebrate and get together! That’s why we never run out of reasons to be happy and to become closer to each other!! 🙂 We celebrated the Holy Mass as always and we had a short program before dinner. The birthday celebrant, Mio, played the drums – listen to all his fans ( his cousins! ) cheer for him

After Mio, was the choir from Malibay.
They sang Christmas carols and everyone enjoyed especially Lolo Benny
Then we had dinner by one of our favorite caterers, M by Chef Ed Quimson
