Alain Ducasse Visits Tuloy Foundation

By | Foodie, Giving Back | 3 Comments

Heart2Heart not only loves Alain Ducasse for his great contribution to the culinary world but also because he came all the way to the Philippines to give back to society and we are so lucky he chose the Philippines to be one of the beneficiaries, to Tuloy Foundation in particular.  When he arrived, he paid a visit to the foundation and they warmly welcomed him to the Tuloy family.  It was such a touching event.  I am so happy to have witnessed this.  God bless Alain Ducasse for his kind and generous heart.  I made an amateur video just to put together the photos and the beautiful song number the kids prepared for Chef Alain

Fr. Rocky Evangelista, founder of Tuloy Foundation.  He told me that he acquired the land in 1999 and it took him two years to sean it up since it was a garbage dump. He said that there are three qualifications to be a Tuloy Foundation student – You must be hopelessly poor, You want to have a better life and are willing to obey the rules.   There is a Mancom to manage the daily affairs of the foundation and the Board sets the vision.  I also met Tony, a generous donor to Tuloy Foundation.  He teaches English to the students and he also takes 3 to 4 students to a restaurant of their choice every Sunday so they can also taste and be able to dine out in a real restaurant 🙂

There were many beautiful things up for bid!

I was early and I love being early because I get to talk to some of the people involved before everything gets busy.  I met Monica Guevarra dela Cruz, beautiful sister of our friend, Jessica Guevarra Everingham.  Apparently she is married to Daniel dela Cruz.  He donated a beautiful sculpture for the auction

Emi Jorge also donated a beautiful clutch

And the beautiful birthday girl, Nicole, had two beautiful items

They also have this solar light for P 2,800 for the Yolanda victims

Q Proudly Quezon Made

By | Foodie, Giving Back, Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel | 3 Comments

Another young and beautiful lady, Anna Villaraza Suarez.  Anna is the wife of one of the best friends of my youngest brother, Quito.  She is First lady to Governor Jayjay Suarez and helps him promote the people and the products of Quezon Province.  When JayJay became Governor in 2010, She would attend the annual week long Agri -exposition and the Nyugyugan Festival in Quezon where members of KALIPI ( Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina, of which she is the honorary chairperson ), farmers and fisherfolk would sell out all their good to buyers from manila and neighbouring towns.  She told me that they would sell a lot during the festival though she wants them to have continuous income throughout the year.   Anna visited the 39 municipalities and two cities of Quezon where she had the chance to taste and try the different food products made by the locals.  She says ” A lot of these products are excellent.  The packaging just needed improvement and the producers given market access.”  And this is how Q Proudly Quezon Made Products was born!   Ultimately the goal of Q is to establish a federation of Q product manufacturers in the province to sustain the production, promotion and marketing of the products

anna-suarez-q-quezon.JPG

One need not go far to taste the flavours of Quezon province.  Anna has brought them closer to us and has made them available for more people to try.  She branded the products under the Q label.  Anna did the minimalistic and clean looking logo.  ” We want the look to become more appealing to the Manila crowd, to upgrade the look of typical locally produced products.  It has to be attractive because we are carrying the name of the province and we want people to have a positive impression of Quezon Province as a whole.”  That statement alone tells me positive things about how the couple is running the province….and I like it! 🙂

ESL Boat Turnover

By | Giving Back | No Comments

I came to represent my Dad’s boat.  I turned over the boat to Jurly Minguez.  He told me that he is not a fisherman.  He instead is a merchant and uses the boat to transport goods from the port to the island – he brings the catch from the fishermen and sells them in the Port of Estancia and he also brings goods to the island for his sari sari store!  And just like my dad who is a merchant/businessman!  This is the fourth story that The Peter Project has witnessed wherein the beneficiary matches the donor!  Boats are assigned randomly and it’s amazing how fate happens.  Tita Mariel told us 3 more stories before this one:

1.)  Tita Ruby Gonzales who is in a wheelchair turned over to a fisherman who is also in a wheelchair

2.)  A Marine Biologist who lost an arm due to a shark bite turned over a boat to a fisherman who lost his arm through dynamite fishing  3.)  A group of girls who donated a boat dedicated to their friend who died while scuba diving, the recipient was a fisherwoman.  The name of the boat was “Ria Forever with Us”

I asked Jurly to send a message to my Dad and speak in their dialect since I know my Dad will understand since he is from Iloilo too 🙂

He took me to his house!! I told him that it looked like he had the biggest house in the island! 🙂  Well, being an entrepreneur, I would assume he is very good in business just like my dad 🙂

This was his old boat which he named after his daughter Jamailyn

Due to the scarcity of wood and to protect the environment, the NVC are moving towards building fiberglass boats.  Tito Noel is the one in charge of this 🙂  They have around 2,000 donated boats and have built 400 of that.  Read more below

In the island of Carles it was nice to see many children – even nicer to see children taking care of (I would assume) their younger siblings, carrying them in their arms
