Category Archives: Giving Back
Over the weekend during the typhoon and a few days after, I was sick and could not mobilize to do anything. But I was online and watching what everyone was doing and posting and I tried to compile what I saw and put it here:

It is amazing how everyone wants to help and just keeps giving. Some people do not even think, they just give blindly. We are such an obedient people 🙂 Though I noticed that there were some individuals who are wary about giving donations because of the fact that they may go elsewhere and not to where it was intended to go to. Aside from that, it was frustrating to note that on day 5 of the typhoon, people were still hungry and dying for food despite the news that people have sent thousands of relief packs to the disaster areas. Heart2Heart has had sleepless nights thinking about all of this. I am an ordinary citizen of the Philippines and as of this day, I am still not clear as to a centralized plan during a disaster, who is really in charge and who should we follow during a disaster and what the overall plan is in terms of helping EVERYONE who is victimized?
So instead of complaining, I tried as best as I can to come up with a quick and dirty plan as to how maybe we can organize the relief efforts. Subject to editing and fine tuning. I am sharing it here hoping someone will believe in my plan and maybe implement it. My objective here is to come up with some sort of system for coordinating and organizing the relief efforts. And maybe more people will be able to give more towards a common goal. As LBC foundation said it
I wish we also had an overall plan so everyone knows where we are going and what we need to move forward. Here is also a very good PLAN which my cousin, Marie, sent me. It is the only one I have seen and looks like the best format for me. It is good because it has numbers that can be measured. It is clear as to how many people have to be helped and the amount that is needed.

Maago Ang pasko is the country’s longest running toy and book collection drive. The nationwide drive has collected already over 2 million toys. Maaga ang Pasko has been committed to spreading smiles and Christmas cheer for thousands of children with gifts of books and toys from kind hearted indviduals and families alike. The campaign has grown to be a traditon that Jolly Family Toy Scouts from all over the country look forward to each year. You cannot imagine what one toy can do to a child and how valuable it is for them especially during Christmas

Christmas comes early at Jollibee! Ang aga! This was my first gift under my Christmas tree this year!
Heart2Heart is like Jollibee!! I prepared all my christmas gifts last month, October, and released them starting November 1.
I am sure this year will be more meaningful especially with the recent devastations in the country. What makes the campaign different this year is the launch of the Maaga ang Pasko microsite. Starting November 11, families whether here or abroad can donate a toy and book online through the Maaga and Pasko microsite with the help of campaign partners. You can now reach out to Global Filipino communities in the USA, Middle East, Hong Kong and Singapore via Maaga ang Pasko donation boxes that will be placed in Jollibee branches in these markets. My Tita Nedy is amazing! Aside from running so many successful companies, she manages to give so much of her time and generous heart in giving back to society. I wish I could be like her! Well we are sort of similar, we are shy when it comes to dancing 🙂 She did not dance in her velada but she gave back and participated in other ways no one could match! 🙂
This is the second project she launched for her Assumption batch celebrating their Golden Jubillee this year!

Thank you Tita Nedy Tantoco and Rustan’s together with Tadashi Shoji for your donation to The Assumption Transformative School in Passi, Iloilo. Tita Nedy is from the Golden Jubilarians this year and it’s very timely as I am sure they will need a lot of help now to rebuild.

Heart2Heart is so happy to meet Tita Carla Abreu-Lim of Sunny Bakeshop! I visited her at the Corinthian Gardens Clubhouse. Thank you Tita Reggie Aguinaldo Young for introducing Heart2Heart to Sunny Bakeshop and Tita Carla! Tita Carla told me the story about how her mom, Lulu Campos Abreu, who started Sunny bakeshop in 1960! Her mom used to love baking and took baking lessons at the same time learned a lot from her mother in law. Tita Carla said that her Mom always had a bubbly and “sunny” disposition hence the name SUNNY Bakeshop 🙂 In the mid 80’s she closed the store in Dian St. and continued to sell from her home to friends and family. When Lulu Campos passed away, Tita Carla decided to continue the business. She told me that she believes in keeping the heritage and culture alive so as not to lose one’s identity. If she did not continue what her Mom was doing, she would have lost everything that was good and created by her Mom The bakeshop is a very cute corner in the clubhouse of the Corinthian Gardens Village in Quezon City. It is a gated village but don’t worry, the guards will let you in the gate if you say you are picking up something from Sunny Bakeshop This is like their commissary as well since all the baking is done here. There is no dining area but just a place to pick up the goodies. What a cute place! Tita Carla pointed out that weighing scale on top of the shelf which is the one that her Mom used before Articles on Sunny bakeshop all displayed on the wall The original Mango Tarts which everyone tried copying. My mom keeps asking me about the pineapple stars! 🙂 One of their bestsellers, Vienna Wafers made out of casuy. The casuy they use comes from a livelihood for women in El Nido. It’s a foundation that gives back so not only are you eating yummy vienna wafers, you are helping the women of Palawan. Tita Carla said that aside from all the original recipes of Sunny Bakeshop, she added the salty food items 🙂 Chorimada – Chorizo ensaymada in bite sizes. They also have the original ensaymada This is my FAVORITE!!! Cheesesticks!! I buy these in boxes from New York and now I can have them fresh and made in the Philippines!!! YUM! I highly recommend this very yummy cheese breadstick It’s made out of Pecorino cheese! Garlic Ham rolls! They used to make this with spam but now they replaced it with ham and garlic for a better alternative. Beside it is the mini chorizo rolls! YUMMY TOO!! There were no cinnamon rolls available that day I visited so I just took a photo! But they are known for this too!!! Always best to call in advance for your orders so they are freshly made 🙂 You can have a party already by just ordering everything from Sunny Bakeshop! Have a SUNNY DAY!! and ALWAYS KEEP SMILING:-) [email_link]
