Category Archives: Giving Back
Heart2Heart has added another angel to its list! Tita Irene Martel-Francisco, the woman behind The Philippine Tatler and Philippines’ Best Restaurants Book. I was with Mia Borromeo and she was telling me how much she admires Tita Irene. She has a wonderful heart, Mia told me. Mia also mentioned to me that the Tatler Ball which she organizes every year, she gives all the money raised to charity. She does not even deduct all the expenses she spends for the event…. She spends for the event and everything raised goes to charity. Wow! Thank you Tita Irene!
Though she already gives back to society with her annual Tatler Ball, she decided this year to give back as well with her other publication, Philippines’ Best Restaurants Book. The publication is on it’s 7th year and instead of having the usual grand launch for the book, she decided to give the money instead to its beneficiary, Hands On Manila. At the same time, they have rounded up 64 restaurants to join in the cause and will be giving ten percent of its sales for the week August 13 to the 20th. So let’s all support Tita Irene and help the kids of Hands on Manila. If you plan to eat out next week, make sure to take note of the restaurants joining the cause…YOU CAN BE A HERO TO THESE STUDENTS!
Of course, Heart2Heart is not surprised that one of the biggest donors of Hands on Manila is Tessa herself! THANK YOU TESSA!!!
Thank you to all those who made this possible!
Make sure to also get your copy of the latest Philippines’ Best Restaurants

Another of my angel friends, Ginggay Joven-dela Merced, starting something small and now making a BIG difference! We can all make a difference if we have the Organ Donor card! Thanks Ginggay for helping us help save lives!
From Ginggay…
If you don’t have the card yet…this is the fastest way…
HOW TO GET THE CARD
If you just need one, the best is like what others did, they downloaded the card from my flickr (hi-res) then had it laminated. I suggest that so you have it right away. Just don’t forget you need to have two witnesses sign the back. And please take time to really read the literature so you can help explain it to your friends if they ask…

Previous Entry: Diptyque Supports Red June 13, 2010
Thank you to those who graced the event and bought candles to support a good cause
It was our first time to witness the Eolipile which was something very interesting and new to us…
Amazing how this guy made the background music just by using different things- rubber, stones, tubes…

Diptyque and (RED)™ have come together to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. Originated and supported by Global Fund Ambassador Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, this is one of the biggest campaigns of its kind. Diptyque created a special edition candle called Diptyque (RED)™ and a purchase of this candle will help provide medicine for those living with HIV in Africa.
Made from Rooibos – red bush tee and fair trade vanilla, the candle comes beautifully packaged in African wax print design.
As this worldwide mission reaches the Philippines, Rustan’s, the exclusive distributor of Diptyque in cooperation with The French Embassy and Ayala Museum and thanks to the generous support of The Peninsula Manila Hotel and Wine Story will officially launch the (diptyque)RED™ Special Edition candle in an invitational event at the Ayala Museum with an exclusive performance by Eolipile French Contemporary Dance Cie.
With this partnership alongside (RED)™, Diptyque ventures down the same path creating an exceptional limited edition candle. Upon purchase of the (diptyque)RED™ Special Edition candle, not only will those living with HIV get medicine, but they will also get the chance to stay alive. And in doing so, this candle’s light, the symbol of hope, becomes a force and a call to share in this mission. With each limited edition (diptyque)RED™ sold, Diptyque will contribute 10% of its cost to help TheGlobaFund provide life-saving medication to those living with HIV in Africa.
Red, like the African soil, (diptyque)RED™ Special Edition candle combines all the elements of an evocative union. The candle’s soothing, spicy scents are derived from certified fair trade vanilla and is made up of Rooibos Vanilla that connote a distinct character with its bewitching, roasted and amber notes. Then comes its herbal and tobacco accords as well as the sweetness of its light, powdery notes. Diptyque then blends these already enchanting scents with Indian and Madagascar vanilla for a spicier aura.
In its efforts to mobilize support for the recently launched BORN HIV FREE, The Global Fund has created this campaign with a single goal where no child is born with HIV by 2015.
Each time you buy a (RED)™ product or service, the partner company is able to give up fifty-percent of its profit to buy and distribute antiretroviral medicine to our brothers and sisters dying of AIDS in Africa. The (RED)™approach is uniquely inspired and daringly different. “Buy (RED)™, save lives” is an optimistic declaration that transforms an altruistic action into a beautiful story, giving everyone the power to fulfill their shopping desires while helping people.
Apart from Diptyque, the world’s most sought after brands have also become (RED)™ partners. Brands such as Apple, Gap, Converse, Dell, Starbucks and Nike among others have recognized that (RED)™ is a business model that is right for their companies, their consumers, and the world.
Diptyque (RED)™ is exclusively available at Rustan’s Makati Grandmall, Alabang Town Center, Shangri-la Plaza

When I attended the Workshop by the Invisible Sisters, I saw this poster in the Benpres building lobby….
Heart2Heart admires Oscar Lopez! Aside from his already successful business achievements, he is always recognized for serving his fellowmen and giving back to society!
Thank you Tito Oscar for inspiring me and for sure inspiring many others who want to be like you! Thank you for serving the country voluntarily and for sharing whatever success you have to help uplift our country. We need more BAYANIS like you!! He is proof that you do not have to be president to uplift a nation.
Happy Independence Day to us and to our country and to everyone out there who serves society, serves the Filipino people, who is useful to society and makes a social impact to our nation…in small or big ways just like Oscar Lopez…let’s follow this man’s footsteps!

Heart2Heart posted something a few years ago on the DANGERS OF PLASTIC
The Dangers of Plastic Bags August 6, 2008
And now is happy that there are other ways on how we can recycle plastic bags!!! Who would think you can make plastic bags into bags as beautiful as these?
Thanks to my cousin, Tara, for introducing me to this wonderful creation and for bringing me along to the Lopez Museum to join this interesting workshop!!!
Take note of this beautiful work of art by Malang!! which was our backdrop of the workshop. Love it!!! 🙂
Demo by an Invisible sister on how to turn plastic bags into beautiful and colorful handbags
A male crocheting? WOW!!
Tara crocheting! and Marianna checking out the workshop in behalf of her Mom, Tita Cedie, Executive Director of the Lopez Museum
and saw Tricia and her daughter also in the workshop 🙂
Ms. Earth even visited and was crocheting with us…. though everyone wanted a photo with her… Tara noticed that there was a sudden growth of the male population in the area 🙂
Since I used to love crocheting when I was in gradeschool, so even if I have not done it in a long time, I still remember and can still crochet as long as you give me a needle and thread 🙂 So this is what I made in around 20 minutes and I had to go as I could not stay the whole workshop
And outside was a booth selling the bags…HOW NICE!!!! These are the creations from plastic bags made by the Invisible Sisters. They range form P 500.00 to P 1,500.00. It takes around 2 to 3 days for the workers to finish a bag- so most of the cost goes to the daily wage of the workers
Ann Wizer, the woman behind Invisible Institute, She was wearing a vest and holding a bag made by them. It takes women like these to start something small, make it big and make a difference in our world….

There are so many ANGELS all around us!! And Heart2Heart continues to be inspired by them!
I really admire my friend, Joanna, who started her own business many many years ago. She was one of the few who started early on even before she graduated in college and was very successful from the very beginning.
When we start a business we do it for many reasons – maybe first and foremost for financial reasons, another could be because we just have the passion to do something we really like to do, and for some of us, it is a way of helping others by providing jobs and finding ways to give back to the community. And giving back and helping others is a CHOICE we make and many choose to take time out to help others and one of them is Joanna.
Joanna and Katrina Alunan- Gonzales, who manages SPIN
shared with Heart2Heart their latest project which is really a very unique and meaningful campaign! More power to you Joanna and Katrina! Thank you for making a DIFFERENCE in our world!
