“The Smiles of Ondoy” by Peachy Concepcion

Gk and RFM have launched massive relief efforts this past week and this is where my kids, cousins, family and friends have been. Amazing to see what the youth can do when they pull together as one. It is heartwarming to see the amount of giving going on whether in kind or in effort. People have been simply generous with their giving! Amazing 🙂

Amidst the darkness that surrounds us – floods, impending storms, trapos – here is my silver lining: little kids sorting, packing and labeling relief goods at their school. Their hands are small, but their hearts are so big – big enough to brighten our future.

This album is for all the generous hearts who gave to the victims of typhoon Ondoy – friends from far away and friends from home. They entrusted us with their money and in turn we were able to buy goods which we delivered to the Ateneo and to the Philippine Red Cross, Rizal Chapter. We only want to thank those who helped us and allowed us to be their “shoppers, drivers, and messengers”. We want to continue to help this way and we pray that more “men for others” come our way. Maraming salamat po!!! Please let us know how we can help you help others.

What you can do for Typhoon Ondoy victims

By | Giving Back | No Comments

Dear friends and donors,

It’s Monday, but it’s no typical working day. For the numerous victims of Typhoon Ondoy, it will take time and a lot of help before their lives recover any sense of normalcy and security.

To help speed up the collection of relief goods, Childrens Hour Philippines will receive your donations at all branches of  Rustan’s Supermarket FRESH

rustans-fresh160.jpg

and Shopwise Stores.

 shopwiselogoad.jpg

Please bring food, water and clothing to the customer service area of the branch nearest you, and we shall consolidate all items for pick-up by the ABS CBN , DSWD, NDCC and other institutions deploying the goods. Rustan’s Supermarkets are open from 10am-9pm, while Shopwise stores open from 9am – 11pm.

Donation boxes are available for your cash donations, but for proper acknowledgment and issuance of receipts, we encourage you to send your cash donations to our office at 5F Dominion Building, Arnaiz Ave., Legaspi Village, Makati City. Please call us at 894-1663, 752-1179 and 752-1180 for inquiries.

Your help matters. We trust you will step up again and answer this plea for help. Thank you for taking quick action.

How You Can Help?

By | Giving Back | 4 Comments

On Sept. 26, the Philippine capital Manila and its neighboring provinces suffered one of nature’s worst beating. Typhoon Ondoy, international code name Ketsana, poured more than a month’s worth of rain in six hours, submerging most parts of the bustling metropolis, drowning at least a hundred people as of press time. My prayers to the victims, and may we emerge victorious and live by the lessons of this tragedy. (Photos by Reuters. Music by Ennio Morricone, “Love Theme” from “Cinema Paradiso”).

I have gathered some information on how and where we can help.  I just put together everything I have so some information may be repeated or duplicated.  Thanks to my cousin, Nina, for suggesting to post this. Now is a good time to look at what you have at home and what you can spare.  Or for those who just want to buy some goods to donate would  be a great help.  It is amazing what everyone is doing to help…..

I got this from the Red Cross Website

New Balance Power Run

By | Giving Back, Sports | One Comment

Another one of our friends who always makes sure to give back to society…Anton Gonzales!  I noticed that every year he has something to benefit an organization.  Heart2Heart admires people like this and will definitely always support worthy causes!  Thanks Anton!!

From Anton:

It is on its 8th year now and we wanted to do something very substantial this year to assist the three Cancer organizations the best way possible.  If you recall, we have had fun runs for Carewell the past few years.  This year, our big run will benefit them directly along with our other two cancer beneficiaries.

Build A Chapel

By | Educare, Giving Back, Tributes | 3 Comments

Around the year 2003, Mom was working on building her chapel.  She told us she wanted to give back something to the community and so she thought of a chapel where people can pray and worship the Lord.  And with the help of many friends and family, Sto. Rosario Chapel came to life in 2006 sc0000b70c.jpg

Mom had passed away in January 2007 ( My Other Mother January 30, 2007 ) .  We were very happy that her wish came true and that she was able to build her chapel sc0000e5fc.jpg

We were able to celebrate mass on her 40th day with just the immediate familydsc_0009.JPGdsc_0010.JPGdsc_0034.JPG

And though the chapel was built and the structure was there, there were several things that were not yet finished.  With the initiative of James and John, last March they had the idea that we should try to finish the chapel by Mom’s birthday which is today.

So we visited the chapel with the help of Mom Menchu and Edgar…dsc_5227.JPGdsc_5249.JPGdsc_5252.JPG

After assessing the situation, just a few finishing touches on the facade and some needed materials inside the church were needed.  Thanks to Edgar for designing and mobilizing to meet the deadline

We dedicate this chapel to Mom and we remember her today on her birthday.  We miss her!  But we know that she is happily with the Lord in Heaven!  Pray for us always Mom.  We love you!

Thank you to the friends of James and John who helped finish the last few phases of the chapel:
