Beginnings

By | Great Achievements | 2 Comments

Heart2Heart admires young entrepreneurs who take that risk and pursue their own businesses or companies.  Bert, Michelle and Gemma all started out as employees of big companies and decided to put up their own.  It has been more than 10 years since they started Beginnings….

I visited them in their office and it reflects the hard work, creativity and definitely a proof of their success!

More power to you guys!!

Starbucks Coffee Ambassador’s Cup

By | Great Achievements, What's New at Starbucks? | 4 Comments

Every other year, Starbucks holds the Coffee Ambassador’s Cup where all the coffee masters gather together to see who will be the Coffee Ambassador of the year.

logoambcupstbx.jpg

Partners go through coffee master assessment and if they score 90% or above they qualify and become coffee masters.  If you go to the store, you will spot them as they wear black aprons and not the regular green ones.  It is a way of continously educating the partners on their knowledge on coffee so they can better serve their clients.

The Coffee Ambassador’s Cup is an idea created by the Philippine team and was originally called the Battle of the Beans.  Starbucks decided to do it in all other International markets and so they called it the Coffee Ambassador’s cup.

This is already the 6th Coffee Ambassador’s Cup!

I love attending Starbucks events because I always  get so energized!  What a great company!  I don’t work there but I am glad to be part of it in some way!

Special Guest for the event was President for Asia Pacific, John Culver and I am so proud of my Dad and brother who run Starbucks Philippines!

Where is Matt?

By | Great Achievements | 5 Comments

Thanks to dad and Catherine for sharing this video.  I actually find this video amusing.  How an idea or how one man can influence the whole world amazes me!  And how lucky he is to have travelled to so many cities all over the world.

 homelogo.jpg

At first I liked watching the videos just because I wanted to see different places in the world and where Matt has been to.  I also found his dancing so entertaining.   I was trying to figure out what he was trying to do or what he was trying to convey.  Then I saw this comment on his video,  which by the way has 21,000 + comments and 10 million plus views, which sort of says it all.

“Hi Matt, the new video absolultey Rocks! I wish I had a better word. It brought be to happy tears because it is pure joy, no politics, no attachments, no stress, no problems, just people having fun together doing the same thing (dancing badly) at the same time, all over our big beautiful world. We were all in the moment and it shows in every clip!

Your videos bring such happines and joy to so many, that of course is why they are such a hit and this one will be the biggest hit!

Thank you Matt, and thank you Stride Gum for allowing Matt Harding to continue his good work……..dancing badly and spreading joy!

About Matt

Matt is a 31-year-old deadbeat from Connecticut who used to think that all he ever wanted to do in life was make and play videogames. Matt achieved this goal pretty early and enjoyed it for a while, but eventually realized there might be other stuff he was missing out on. In February of 2003, he quit his job in Brisbane, Australia and used the money he’d saved to wander around Asia until it ran out. He made this site so he could keep his family and friends updated about where he is.

A few months into his trip, a travel buddy gave Matt an idea. They were standing around taking pictures in Hanoi, and his friend said “Hey, why don’t you stand over there and do that dance. I’ll record it.” He was referring to a particular dance Matt does. It’s actually the only dance Matt does. He does it badly. Anyway, this turned out to be a very good idea.

A couple years later, someone found the video online and passed it to someone else, who passed it to someone else, and so on. Now Matt is quasi-famous as “That guy who dances on the internet. No, not that guy. The other one. No, not him either. I’ll send you the link. It’s funny.”

The response to the first video brought Matt to the attention of the nice people at Stride gum. They asked Matt if he’d be interested in taking another trip around the world to make a new video. Matt asked if they’d be paying for it. They said yes. Matt thought this sounded like another very good idea.

In 2006, Matt took a 6 month trip through 39 countries on all 7 continents. In that time, he danced a great deal.

The second video made Matt even more quasi-famous. In fact, for a brief period in July, he was semi-famous.

Things settled down again, and then in 2007 Matt went back to Stride with another idea. He realized his bad dancing wasn’t actually all that interesting, and that other people were much better at being bad at it. He showed them his inbox, which, as a result of his semi-famousness, was overflowing with emails from all over the planet. He told them he wanted to travel around the world one more time and invite the people who’d written him to come out and dance too.

The Stride people thought that sounded like yet another very good idea, so they let him do it. And he did. And now it’s done. And he hopes you like it.

Matt lives in Seattle, Washington with his girlfriend, Melissa, and dog, Sydney. He hasn’t had a real job since Stride called him up. Matt doesn’t mind working, but he doesn’t much care for having to show up at the same place every day.

Matt is not rich. Matt also doesn’t have some magical secret for traveling cheaply. He does it pretty much the same way everybody else does.

Matt thinks Americans need to travel abroad more.

Matt was a very poor student and never went to college. When he got older, he was pleased to discover that no one actually cares. Matt doesn’t want to imply that college is bad or anything. He’s just saying is all. There’s other ways to fill your head.

Matt is left-handed.

When Matt was younger, he could hang seven spoons on his face at once. Sadly, puberty made Matt’s face less conducive to spoon-hanging.

Matt’s Xbox Live screen name is BadDancer. He plays a lot of Rock Band.

Matt has a little piece of extra cartilage sticking out on the rim of one ear and a little hole in the same place on the other ear. Since saying so on this page, he’s been informed that the extra piece of cartilage is called a Darwinian Tubercle. Matt thinks

SCTEx

By | Great Achievements, Travel | No Comments

The new SCTex Highway opened last April 28 and we were able to try it out over the weekend. Since the family likes going to Subic, this will definitely be a regular route again. Save around 30 to 40 minutes from your regular Subic trip since you do not have to pass the small towns from San Fernando to Subic. one thing we do also to reduce the time to Subic is to leave very early in the morning – before 6 am or late evening to avoid the EDSA traffic. The longest part is always the Makati to Balintawak section so try to avoid that traffic and you will get to Subic in 2 hours from Makati.

It looks like Subic businesses will start picking up again with this new development. The highway is a beautiful scenic drive. It is like the highways in the States. For now it is all scenery and greens, hopefully it will stay that way and no commercial establishments sprouting up.

The P27.2-B  93.77 km expressway is a flagship project of President Arroyo and is among the mega-projects intended to transform Central and Northern Luzon into a super region. It is expected to serve as the new economic backbone for Central Luzon and the adjoining regions that is seen to create wider opportunities for investment, trade and employment.

Dream, Believe and Achieve!

dscf0002.JPG

With permission of Rica, and her family,   Heart2Heart is sharing with you an inspiring event held by the Concepcion family in Cebu last Jan. 31 to Feb. 1.   They have this conference once a year where the whole family gets together somewhere out of town…..and they are around 70.  Wow!!!   There is the formal conference…. there is the reflection on what has transpired in the year and there is the bonding and spending time together as one big family. What fun!!

I am so proud of your family, we share the same values of hard work and family.  Having a family business and keeping the family together is not an easy task and it is nice to see how your family has succeeded in doing all that and then passing it on to the fourth generation.  Congratulations!!!

Written by Rica Concepcion – Araneta

DREAM BELIEVE ACHIEVE. This was the slogan we used throughout our 2 day Concepcion shareholder’s meeting in Mactan, Cebu. We have been having yearly meetings similar to this one for the past 4 years (I think?) and I can say that this one was the BEST!! Why…maybe because we were away from Manila and were stuck in a place so far away from distractions (mall, shopping, office, etc…)….maybe because the place was beautiful even if the food was the worse :(…maybe because this was the first time that the kids (4th generation 10 years old & above) were old enough to participate without getting bored…..maybe because the younger ones 4G or 4th generation (9 years old and below) were included too….maybe because the 2G or 2nd generation (my parents, titos and titas) did not end up fighting but shared their kwentos with us….so many maybes but one thing for sure is that I love being a Concepcion and I am proud to be one.

Tons opening remarks: – annual cii shareholders meeting and concepcion family gathering:

dscf0182.JPG

Maayong pag abot! Welcome to Cebu. I am sure we will have a great conference because everyone is excited in making it the best!I can’t believe it has been 5 years since our first Punta Fuego visioning session. And from Punta Fuego to Cebu we have had 10 shareholder and family gatherings. And countless other bonding moments in between. So what have we accomplished in 5 years and after all of these activities?

1. We have solved all the business issues. The businesses our now striving with the turnaround of Condura and Carrier is taking us to even greater heights

2. We have had over 50 board and excom meetings.

3. The family is closer than ever. As a whole there is greater family peace, unity and closeness. The proof is today, I don’t think that anyone can say that they were forced to come. And I am so sure everyone is excited to be here.

4. In tagaytay in 2005, we created a Concepcion family credo and identified an advocacy to do together as a family. While this did not materialize, I believe that this was the spark that led to the birth of many advocacies many of us champion on our own that are already making contributions in making the country better.

I would just like to add that our common advocacy may be in keeping the family together. Success in business, a united family and reaching out to others. This is proof that the Concepcion legacy is alive. And it is not all talk but action.

So whats next? Every once in awhile you have those moments when you are truly proud to be a parent. My moment came when one of my daughters wrote a brilliant essay in school that was well beyond her years as a grade 8 student. . Needless to say I was thoroughly impressed. But at the same time humbled when my wife Karen told me – Ton that’s you.It got me thinking of how our kids learn from their parents. They learn from following what we do. So how we live our lives is even more important than what we teach them in words. This is how I learned from my parents and my parents from our grand parents. Truly the dream is to pass on the values and traditions which we collectively call as the Concepcion legacy to the future generations of Concepcions. This in essence is the main objective of this conference. To institutionalize the legacy so that it can live forever. Today, we pass the torch to the 4th generation.

Miguel’s Healing Powers

Since Miguel was twelve years old, he was already treating his family and friends.  He did not learn his practice from school, though he did graduate from De La Salle University where he took up Biology as his pre Med.742854086503_0_bg.jpgHis technique is self taught……He does not prescribe any medicines, all his treatments are done with his hands.  That for me is magical healing powers.  He not only invented it, he even named it.  Miguel calls it  Myovasotherapy.  “Myo”means muscle and “vaso” means the circulatory system.   13.jpg  ( Painting made by Miguel’s Mom hanging on his wall- also the family tree of Miguel )He deals with nerves, tendons, ligaments – He treats pains from sports or occupational injuries that occur in all soft tissues- golf elbow, migraines, pulled muscles, Sciatica, Stiff necks, Sprains, Tennis elbow, Tendonitis, TMJD (tempomandibularjoint disorder), Torn Rotator cuffs, frozen shoulders and others but I heard from Vina and Lisa that some girls at the badminton court have themselves treated even if they have no injury…. I wonder why? 🙂

His clinic reminds me of a spa and I like it so much because it is not intimidating, it gives the patient a more relaxed atmosphere….

The true test that his healing powers work is that he is always fully booked.
