Inspired by Fernando Amorsolo, who was named National Artist for Painting in 1972 and the first Filipino to be given that distinction, Rustan’s Supermarkets has made the Amorsolo Shopping Bags available to the public as a contribution to the awareness and understanding of Filipino culture and core values as seen in the master’s paintings, illustrations and sketches.
Amorsolo, also called the “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art”, is known for his wide range of subjects – from his idealized female images of the Filipina, scenes of traditional Filipino customs, fiestas and occupations, to his series of historical paintings on pre-Colonial and Spanish Colonization scenes.
