Congratulations to Starbucks Philippines on another great milestone!  Count on Starbucks to do business in ways that are good to the earth!

Last April 23 was the formal blessing of the newly installed solar panels at St. Charbel store in Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City.  This is the second drive thru store in the country.

The Transnational Uyeno Solar Corporation hosted the blessing represented by Rashid and Zaki Delgado

The two young and very intelligent Harvard graduates that remind me so much of their father, Tito Rob

Rashid is based in Singapore and handles Shipping and Solar ( Transnational Uyeno Solar ) for the TGD group.  This is a great milestone as well for their company since it is their first Solar installation in the country.  Hoping that many more others will follow suit and help save the earth

My brother, Noey Lopez, Chief Operating Officer of Rustan Coffee Corporation, explained that Starbucks has 3 Pillars – Community, Ethical Sourcing and Environment.  He is thankful to the Store development team headed by my Mom, Menchu Tantoco Lopez and my brother, Quito T. Lopez who are daring to embark on projects such as these and pioneer worthwhile investments at the same time save our earth

Of course, the President of Rustan Coffee Corp, Eduardo Lopez Jr. ( my dad ) was there too to turn on the switches for the Solar panels with Rashid

It was time to go up and bless the solar panels on the roof.  Father went up first with this lifter

On the other side of the building was Tita Helen, Dad and Mom taking a peek as well at the roof

And we finally arrived at the airport

We all fit in the Heli together with the pilot

We were greeted by Boly, the General Manager of Balesin.  Dad and Mom know him because he is the husband of one of our Managers in Starbucks, Macy, who is based in Cebu

Very interesting to meet Marco Diaz, nephew of Gloria Diaz and cousin of Illac Diaz.  Marco was the one who developed the island and made it self sustainable.  He told me that what he does is the same as what Illac does for the poor though he does it as a job and for resorts all over the world.  He used to work for the Taj group

We did not go anywhere by land except to the club house for lunch and to this very beautiful and humongous Balete tree!  Tito Rob made sure he brought us to see this.  He told us a story about the Banyan tree in Hong Kong that was in between the Conrad Hotel and the Island Shangri-la Hotel.  The Banyan Tree there is known to be the most expensive tree in the world since the two hotels had to build around the tree to preserve it.  And Tito Robbie said that this Banyan tree in Balesin is even bigger than that one in Hong Kong
